  1. OK, I see. Maybe they are trying to future-proof it for when/if their units start shipping with TB3 ports. I see that UA is selling a TB3 upgrade kit for their Apollo rack mounts--so my guess is they know it coming and they're getting ready. Maybe?
  2. Yeah, you're right. Me too. I said I use compressors and limiters, but I do use the gain feature as well--even have it on my menu bar I reach for it so often. Typically, if I want to change an audio track that is either way to low or high, or more often than not, I just select a word or phrase from a vocal take and apply a boost or cut on that section. That's probably the real big reason I don't use normalization.
  3. I see that the 4i4 has a USB-C port, but that is showing as a USB port--not the TB port. I'm not sure I understand what you mean it supports the native TB driver?
  4. This is a very useful comparison--thank you so much for sharing this.
  5. Hmm. Thanks for the response. Not sure it's helpful though. ?
  6. Hey Group!! I'm studying out a bunch of the music sales and streaming sites, CD Baby, Tunecore, Reverbnation, Ditto Music, and DistroKid and am leaning heavily towards Reverbnation with their Premiere plan. Does anyone have any experience here, and are willing to share what made you go with one company over another? Thanks in advance, Stephen
  7. Yeah, I just upgraded my laptop at work and I'm connected to my port replicator via a Thunderbolt 3 (USB C-type) connection. I did a bit of research because I'm a geek, and man, that Thunderbolt 3 is amazing. Fast, and can carry so many different types of data. I'm starting to lean towards a Thunderbolt 3 type audio interface. Of course, that's when my Echo Layla 3G dies or becomes obsolete. I'll also have to consider the cost of adding a new expansion to my DAW for a TB 3 port--since I don't have that now. Of course I'll do my geeky research on all the pros and cons first.
  8. @Noel Borthwick Would you recommend everyone install this hot fix, even if we're not experiencing the same issues? Stephen
  9. Hmm. I never use normalizing. I use compressors and limiters. I guess some use it and some don't.
  10. Hey all-- Just updated last night (after creating a Windows restore point). Had a couple issues--both seemed to resolve after a reboot. The Bandlab Assistant stayed all whited-out for a long time, before it finally settled down and let me install the update. I was surprised the update was so quick since there were some many "updates" and bug fixes, etc. Then, when I opened CW, it hung for a long time before it finally opened. Then, when I went to open a medium sized project (small for me) it hung too. I had to wait for a long time before it opened and was seeing a Cakewalk not responding up in the top of the window. Before I was going to do a system restore, I rebooted my computer and then CW and the same project opened fine--so of course I didn't need to do a system restore. I haven't tested the Bandlab Assistant yet--but I rarely use that. I just use it to check for updates. That's my report.
  11. I've noticed that Grace Slick either has become or always was a little negative in general. She kind of farts on everything--at least in quotes I've read from her.
  12. The UAD Powered Plug-Ins work great in CW. Have for years (when it was Sonar)!
  13. I guess I never paid attention. Is scook an admin?
  14. I read about this app after I got the email too. I instantly thought about Izotope's RX product. Personally, as an audio correction tool, getting rid of broadband noise, pop, clicks, etc. RX is very handy. Using it for creative purposes - pass. I didn't see any use for this tool.
  15. Hey @richard greenidge Sorry if I pushed a button! See what I did there?! I'm just messing with ya. My question on Behrigner was real though.
  16. Ah, thanks. I didn't know this. I know the bounce to clip wasn't an option (or I did it wrong). I'll try bouncing to the original track and see if that works the way I want it to. Thanks!
  17. "bow out of the choir" That would be a good title for...
  18. Ah gotcha. I'm very familiar with using regions with Melodyne--done it many times for quite a while, but when I searched for methods of using Melodyne to create harmonies, that's when I saw the transfer option while inserted as an audio FX. If there's no benefit with the insert method, I'll just go back to the region method. Thanks!
  19. Thanks. That's the process I use for pitch and timing corrections and then I bounce to clips and Melodyne closes--all done. Nice and tidy. When I read up (watched vids) on harmonies, they recommended the FX transfer method. Are there any pros or cons?
  20. I don't want to take this post too OT (but it is the Coffee House), but I have to ask...you spent a lot on your DAW components--and forgive me if I've confused you with someone else, but don't you get a new rig once a year? Anyway, I'm reading your post while wiping the drool off my chin and then I read "Behringer" and I wake up out of my dream state and scratch my head. Behringer? Really? Aren't they the low-end cost savings brand? Years ago when I worked at GC in pro audio, Behringer everything were the cheapies the kids would buy that couldn't afford the high-end, more expensive stuff. I realize that was a long time ago, and most manufacturers have their high and low-end models--but at least that time (18-ish) years ago, Behringer didn't sell a high-end model of anything that GC stocked--and that was a lot. Please enlighten me.
  21. Hah! Good to know if I ever want to get in a band again. I read years ago that the average length of time that a band stays together in L.A. was 2 and a half weeks. If you think about it, marriage is hard--to make it work. Now take 4 or 5 dudes and try to make that work! Not so much.
  22. Hello-- I started using Melodyne to help compose vocal harmonies and there seems to be one step missing in my process--or is there? 1) I duplicate the vocal melody I want to create a harmony for onto a new track. 2) I insert Melodyne as an audio FX onto the track copy. 3) I hit Transfer in Melodyne and hit play in CW. 4) I manipulate the blobs in Melodyne to taste. 5) [Now is where I seem to be missing something] I don't want to leave Melodyne active as a plug-in because of the DAW resources is draws, but there is no "print" or bounce option, so I just freeze the track and turn off the FX on that track. Is that the best way? It seems a little hokey. Thanks!
