  1. pretty cool cover man! lovingly done, with super aggressive tones that don't get out of hand. i think dave would be pleased. and he's NEVER pleased!! LOL question about the mastering... i notice in the NERD stats...it looks like the audio was barely normalized... with the volume up all the way on the utoob player, its sounds best, and is much quieter than any other vids i'm watching at the same time, what was your mastering target?
  2. nice big power ballad. i need to listen to this in my studio (headphones right now) but i like atmospheric part in the middle the best. but yea, outro solo is pretty rocking. this is a nice smooth mix.
  3. nice driving tune! could be a F1 theme song. for me, the drum track is too obviously drum machiny, with the really quick stuff, if you edited down some of the repeating kicks, for example, it wouldn't take your focus away from the groove as much as it does when it sounds robotic. i'd try some key modulation so you're not stuck in a repeating loop, it would make the music move even more. your ear gets stuck in the one key, and it can get, not monotonous, but less effective if the music bed was constantly moving. nice tones and mix on everything
  4. well, i never hear the original, but this sounds clean and tight. it's funny how sometimes the plugs can be just rabbit holes. this reminds me a little bit of some of the stuff that Brand X did (check Manifest Destiny) i wished the arrangements changed keys more often, it's like just jamming to a loop... if there were more transitions (modulations) it would be that much better! it's hard to tell what's programmed, and what's really played, but that doesnt really matter, it's a vibe and a space to be in. i dig it.
  5. thanks andrew! you saved my thread from total obscurity! yes, this Fralin P-92 model is quite unique, it's two 3-pole coils, separated, one high, one low, and this is how he gets it to be noiseless... a humbucking p-90!
  6. i really like the sound of the Fralin's on this. it's mostly bridge on the rhythms, but you can hear the neck come into play now and then during the solo... i kinda want to arrange the solo with harmony sections, and really write it out, to specifically use the neck (P-92) to stand out against the more treble bridge tones on the rhythms. the tele is so fun to play... it's so light, and so comfortable.
  7. https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/open-wheel-champion this song is the first song i've written using just the new Tele i had built. song uses different amps for the rhythms, left and right (vox and marshall) this is the third in a trilogy of songs inspired by Formula One racing. the song is about the final winner, from any team, any year.
  8. yes, it's getting harder to tell any difference any more. i'm definitely getting better sounding tracks using the iridium than i did before using it. but really, it's all good. i still love the sound of a banging cabinet, and the interaction between guitar and a loud cab.
  9. Well, this was done 100% direct with a strymon iridium, But this is becoming my new tradition! I play loud in the studio, so there is traditional volume involved. The iridium sounds so good thru my boogie at volume, I may try some sessions with a mic
  10. hey ron! thanks for listening... yea, i may go back and do a vocal version of this, it will probably get an updated arrangement, and i'll probably replay all the guitar parts, tone em down, make room for a vocal.
  11. thanks john! silverstone, yes, i'm still mixing that one, i'll update the file on the BANDCAMP page from time to time. i guess the 'anxiety' of riding the bullet to go to a grand prix, is the real crux of the vibe. the idea that not only are you moving at speed, but you're going to witness one of the worlds most intense races as well! the mix i have now, of SILVERSTONE, is a much better mix than the first. folks that purchased that first version, can go back and download the newer version for free.
  12. hi kevin! yes, bombastic... actually, they are tucked in just a bit, because my first mix made them sound like a drum solo. LOL lifeson, he's always gonna be in the playing DNA somewhere... been listening to them, and playing their stuff, since the very first album! yep, streaming services leave a lot to be desired. i could post these to drop box or google clouds, but then, almost no one would listen to them. this one is not really mastered hot.. i think it's about -10rms, and about -0.8db true peak.
  13. ha! i agree! well, at least, sometimes... i do like a piano from time to time..... ?
  14. thanks so much pavlov! it was actually FUN tracking this one!
  15. by the way, this was done with only a Strymon Iridium for guitars/bass parts.
  16. heheh, substances can mean lots of things to lots of people! imaginary sports car..., dig it! thanks for listening
  17. Thanks freddy! Yea, I've got samples of the train noise and riders talking as the train takes off from a stop... Its really cool in the cans
  18. hey andy! thanks for waking up!! heheh, yea, the wah, that's my thing. i try not to over do it.
  19. hey vernon, thanks so much for the support! the cool thing about bandcamp, once you've bought a tune, is that you can download it again, which you'll want to do after this weekend, because i'm updating both songs, as i've just purchased a plugin that i want to try out on both mixes. the 3rd song is going to be called "Open Wheel Champion", which is a celebration of the formula one champion (this year it's verstappen, but could be anyone for any year) its the first song i've recorded with my brand new telecaster build: it will be a a slow and stately rocker with big power chords! heheh
  20. the 2nd one, i posted first... here it is if you missed it: https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/silverstone
  21. thanks so much nigel! i've been doing a lot of homework, and learning techniques like crazy. i worked hard to get the panning just so, that everything had it's place, and didn't step on each other. so, i used these two guitars, because i wanted hard tails, and the Carvin now has a Kahler Hybrid bridge, which lets me lock the trem solid, and the Ibanez just sounds like a good les paul to me. again, all done direct thru the Iridium, and this time, only the iridium, no pedals (except for the solo... that's the carvin, with the REVV g3 going into a marshall model, and the budda wah) the drums: this particular kit, was built around the Gretsch kit in superior drummer 3, and i had been studying Taylor Hawkin's most recent kits, and took some influence from that.
