Jesse I need to rephrase that "talking down". When a person has GAS they can think some crazy things. I knew better than to ask if someone could talk me out of it. Everyone else here has GAS too. I looked over all of the sound lists . You probably have had the same experience online in looking at demos for a product. First you get the 2 minute company Wow!! video. It basically tells you- A. Yes it plays lots of sounds. B. The actor that was in the video made it look like he was using it. Next I watch an older Jordan Rudess ST4 demo video...ole spider fingers himself. He could make a toaster sound great. Wailed on a few key sounds. Made a few of his own. I was impressed with the 5 sounds and multis I heard him play on it..........but that's the thing, none of that tells me how the library itself holds up against the competition. The only way to know that is to check with those who have owned it, played through the sounds etc......that's why this is such a great place! Simeon can play! In one of his videos he walks through the multi setup of ST4 in Cakewalk as a multi . This confirmed for me that ST4 is easy to use as a multi with different midi channels. ZincT Thanks for your opinions! I can upgrade to MAX. Originally I thought MAX was overkill for me. That was mainly because of the 1000 drum kits sounds I know I'll never use. One of my biggest questions would be how realistic are the included orchestral instruments? Can they hold their own against other more expensive libraries like Vienna Symphonic instruments or similar? I have Spitfire Albion 1 and I like it, but I think I expected more individual control of the instruments. The GUI in it isn't the most slick.Seems a bit clunky to me. The description of sounds in it from soft to loud and up front would be "tame". Nothing in it jumps out and bites you. In these compositions you want something that can have lots of dynamics if needed and sound real if put in a solo position. What about choir samples? Are they realistic? Keys and guitars are always important and it seems they have that down pretty well, though for serious electric guitar none of those large sample library all-in-one packages ever seem to get quite there unless you know how to dress those samples up. I heard the acoustics and they sounded good.

For hands on go with a Little Fatty........ knobs are more fun The ZT3A+2 demo doesn't scratch the surface. The presets in it are amazing IMO. This guy loves hardware ???...what do you call these??

What new updates would you like to see in 2020 to Cakewalk - CLOSED.
Starise replied to Will.'s topic in Feedback Loop
Maybe this already exists and I have not seen it or don't know how to use it.. A clip "re join" feature. Both audio and midi. Maybe save an original file as non destructive. The split line goes away as if it never existed. So many times I am adding something to a clip and don't realize or forget there are multiple clips or want to treat all clips in the track the same, so I need to go back and add whatever it is to all of them individually. The other benefit to this is once "joined" as a whole the clip can be moved around as a whole if need be. Another nice feature would be to select "save spare midi track" when freezing an audio track. I would prefer to see this as nested under that track and not located in another folder somewhere. This way you could export an audio mix and still have all midi in the same project without necessity to unfreeze to use it. -
Bandlab #8 in Music Radar Best DAW poll.
Starise replied to kitekrazy1's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I give zero credence to these kinds of reviews. What matters is what works best to do the job for you. I have a handful of DAWS . At some point you just have to hunker down and learn a system. -
Very well done. This is crying for a solo mid song though IMHHO.

Thanks all of you for listening and commenting. I was a bit tired last evening and I think my ears played a few tricks on me. I have to agree with the mid heavy comments when listening back today. Thank you for confirming that. I will revisit the mix and knock down the mids some. David, the flute player is a big girl with a lot of wind

I had to re read that comment. I thought getting a good blowing was...............never mind? In this case it wasn't a good thing. Glad yer ok there Wibbles.

This is potentially the beginning of a 50 page thread ........we are literally overloaded with possibilities. Some of them very accessible, better said inexpensive. I have to hand it to the programmers. Amazing bunch they are. Thankfully I can attempt to make music and am more than happy to let them do what they do.?

Mr. Wiggley? In truth it's probably that unnamed thingy....they look down and point.

If your goal is to take raw sound waves and make them into a sound you like Absynth has some very deep programming capability. It's an older synth, but you really can't exhaust the potential it has with imagination. The guy in the video owns Plug In Guru. No plug here for them specifically, but he really knows what he's doing . Has made sounds for just about all of the major synth makers. I have all of the others and they are also full of potential in their own way. Many of these simply let you tweak what's already there which is fine...if you want to start from scratch though, Absynth is a good place to start. There are plenty of other newer kids on the block too. Have you looked at Serum? You could literally get lost in this stuff and never come out...endless possibilities, which is why I choose to let the sound design up to those experts and tweak the sounds I have to get what I want. Automation/ tweaking- That's another thing altogether which can also get deep since you program parts midi cc # to controls and this can make the synths come alive in a mix.

This is all very timely because I received an email that I can upgrade my ST4 SE for what I think is a decent price. I wouldn't go to the MAX edition . The middle edition has 100gb of sounds in it. ST4 is a grand improvement over ST3 IMO. I have both. As was noted in other posts on the subject I had some "growing pains" with ST4 crashing Cakewalk. This was because I had an older build of it. When I updated I haven't had these issues. For the asking price of upgrade this is tough one for me to turn down, especially since I recently dug up a few gems in the SE version. I have been mostly a Kontakt user, but I'm more than willing to venture outside of that realm to get what I want. Look at the included effects on offer. Nice! Not sure if I can use the shell as a multi similar to Kontakt. If I can that's another point for me. JMHO. I'm about ready to jump. 139 quid to upgrade to the version under MAX. In the world of sound libraries this is a pittance for 100gb of just about anything you can imagine. Maybe I'm looking at the whole thing wrong. Somebody talk me down

I haven't posted in the songs forum for awhile. It's good to see a bunch of the old crowd still here! I've been on a classical music kick for a few years now and have been slowly working mixes that hopefully don't borrow from other composers and instead are original in construction. This began as a piano composition. No edits were done to the piano which is the DNA of the composition. I posted two sources for this. One on my Soundcloud and one on YouTube to show the notation involved.

I have a special soft place for any of that music that resembles old Beatles tunes. I think this style hold a timeless appeal. Especially liked the naked vocals, the general "exposed" sort of feel this mix has. Where you sing "I" , I wanted to hear some harmonies. You did that in a few places. I think my mind was hearing them anyways because of my memories in similar tunes. Thanks for sharing.

This is a very well done straight up blues song. As such I think the sound can be colored any way that suits the material. Has that retro sound that fits so very well. You are quite talented at all of those instruments and the ability to mix it for the feel you want. Liked the harmonies in "hot dog". Thanks for sharing Freddy! Best to you.

First I've heard anything from you, so I can't compare to the other songs about struggle. This song has what you aimed for in it in my opinion. It's a very upbeat tune. Harmonies and change ups musically keep it going, make this a pleasant listen. I listened with my studio headphones. I tend to hear that high hat a bit much in those. Not sure what a solution would be because I also think it helps to carry the tune along well. From reading others comments it seems to be very subjective. If you're anything like me and something is bothering you about it. I would recommend you do something, because if you don't you'll come back to it and think to yourself that you don't like it. If OTOH you are perfectly content with it, leave it be and don't listen to me It's one very small concern in an otherwise wonderful song.

I wonder what the upgrade price to 10 will be from 9 now? Maybe that will not change. Magix kills me with email in my promotions box....I feel like I just bought 9. I have opened it up maybe 5 times since I bought it. I still plan to use it for some quick backing track work. ACID is a very useful program. They are slowly updating it. Works well for what it does.

The GC employee that took my return had the metal head look. Mentioned he had been working there for 6 years. Most of the ones at this location are at the least in bands and can play pretty well. I get the perception they know their guitars. Keyboards maybe not so much. There's a dedicated employee for the recording section. I try to make it a point to treat everyone with respect. I can imagine that if I was an employee and someone walked into the store and began to talk all know-it-all on me. If I was 40 and had picked up the guitar at 15....that might not sit too well. That kind of thing shouldn't go on. I'm sure there are some employees who are green. Doesn't seem that way at this branch.

No wonder the dogs all went away!

Take my word for this.........sometimes it's better to boil the water without a lid. When you go down the rabbit hole it's darned near impossible to turn around. I am a committed type. For better or worse. Two words help often "yes dear". You need to be able to pretend to understand. You give 80 they give 20. When it works, it works very well....when it doesn't..........................................................................................I guess you could bury yourself in the studio. Works for me sometimes. Have you tried any of those dating sites. Do you want to try any of those dating sites? Word to the wise. Don't do anything suddenly. I just bought my wife flowers. She loved it because I don't do that very often. No special occasion, just did it out of the blue. If I did it all the time or only on Valentine's day, she wouldn't think as much of it.

Happy B-day Baps.

You underestimate yourself there man......................I mean, I wouldn't marry you, but they say there's lid for every pot!

See you guys later, I'm going out for a bit while my computer composes for me. I seen this awhile back and I think it looks like a great way to get ideas. ....Yeah Mr. Robot looked innocent too.
