This is what I think it should looks like!

The first time I discovered it I just about hit the ceiling!! I had my headphones on and it scared the zit out of me! I was expecting to open the project not be blasted at full volume with what I later figured out was a preview?? It’s another reason I no longer use the start menu. Haven’t those guys got more important stuff to work on than dumb ideas like that?

NEW Win install- Need CW install help please
John Vere replied to Pathfinder's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I would imagine your new C drive won’t be maxed out buy installing a few samples. My approach is I don’t worry about this anymore. That thinking is from a bygone era. If an install gives me the option I most certainly do it. But if not it is not an issue because my C drive is 1 TB. and 100 times faster than my last computer. -
Band in The Box will show in Sonar as a VST effect. Jjazz and paid version of Chord pulse will export a midi file you OPEN in Sonar. Always OPEN midi files to retain important information.

It is required to record all audio period. On board audio can be used for working in the box. Attemtps to record Audio with out a proper audio interface are doomed to failure. Watch the videos to learn why.

MIDI Audio - The tutorials and documentation are outdated, pls help

Using a proper audio interface with proper connection.

Did you restart your computer? Did you open task Manager to see if it was running and end task? Is a prompt hidden behind a open window? Are you using the new Cakewalk Product Manager?

I wasn’t sure what you were talking about now I do. Do you have a desktop icon for the control panel? That’s what I always use. I keep it in my taskbar so it’s easy to open with Sonar open if I need to change the buffer. One click.

Thinks I'm noticing and wonder if it's just me?
John Vere replied to John Vere's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Dang, The original Picture was dark, so I couldn't see those stupid 3 microscopic dots!!!~ I opened another project where the picture was brighter and noticed the dots. It used to be a big Plug sign. Yet another downside to the new graphics. Bang on! I forgot about that. This is a fresh install where I have totally lost all my custom settings of which I'm now discovering is probably 100 items!! This is going to take a year. -
Solved— I just opened a project in Sonar and decided I wanted to change the start screen picture icon. I opened Notes and there's no option to change the picture? Others? Solved- Workspaces. I keep opening projects that were last opened in Cakewalk and my workspace is all wrong. It looks like Basic because everything is missing? I have to re load my custom workspace almost every time. Once saved in Sonar this goes away. But I thought all projects should always default to your last used workspace. Workspaces are not supposed to be linked to projects. Screenset are but I've never used those ever. Still wondering - The other thing that seems odd is that in my Cakewalk Product center I only have Next? Shouldn't Sonar show here too?

I don't use the playlist and it looks like the stand alone is something you pay for and my demo expired so cannot comment. I think you should try it as it looks to me like is can be used to create playlists? Interesting mid player, but I just never got around to messing with it. And I've been using Coyote sometimes I like the way it sounds sort of compressed.

As Greg said above. Please carefully re read my post as it clearly explains this. Just open each project and use Save As with copy audio checked. Browse back one level if you desire to keep it in same main folder or drive. Or Browse to a external drive etc. You can re name at this point if you so choose .

Cannot export audio - sound card goes "offline"
John Vere replied to Cobus Prinsloo's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
You do not need to select anything anymore because this can be done inside the Export dialogue now. See the blue arrow on the right in the Sources box. That opens a mini track and bus pane where you can do the same as you do in track view. It is hidden by default. When you see your audio interface is not checked it is because something else is already selected in the hidden box. The Advanced export dialogue is very powerful and there's a lot to learn if you desire to take full advantage of it's features. -
Can CBL run currently with Cakewalk Sonar Backstage .04(rebuild one)
John Vere replied to Garey Beck's question in Q&A
Yes at first it was like that for me back in February. But not anymore. For the most part it is working normally but I haven't had random crashes for possibly 4 or 5 years now they are regular. I think installing a few other Daw's to demo as well as Home Studio has made a mess. I just installed Luna and that was a huge mistake! I was originally using a different Computer to test the other Daw's but it is 15 years old and something is not working right at the moment. Otherwise this is exactly why I don't normally install too much on my main Daw. But I still don't understand why the clean re install didn't resolve the conflicts. and for me Sonar is corrupted and on edge all the time. I'm pretty sure if and when they release it ( any day now right? ) and I just start fresh from zero it would defiantly not be unstable. -
You don’t mention that you had checked the Copy Audio box. This is important for the results I mentioned.

You still need to use an analyzer to see what the LUFS or RMS level is, This takes the guess work out. A healthy wave file should read between- 1.0 to -12.0 db peak and -12 to -18 LUFS. You Lean is free to use like all the others. example Melda MAnalyzer and Span etc but they all require you play the whole file in real time. That can be time consuming. The paid version of You Lean is worth it as you get a instant reading. For me it is one of the most important tools I’ve ever purchased for audio and video production. It will analyze every possible type of file that contains audio. It is also the most accurate and will catch peaks at the sample level that the others all miss. You problem child peaks might not be picked up otherwise.

Can CBL run currently with Cakewalk Sonar Backstage .04(rebuild one)
John Vere replied to Garey Beck's question in Q&A
Actually there was an issue that still exists for me where Sonar Home Studio was connected to the new Sonar. The problem was both created a Folder called Sonar. CbB folder is called Cakewalk Core and other versions of old Sonar create folders like Platinum etc. Anyway I was having general crashes of Sonar and staff instructed me to do a clean install. The instructions they sent were for Cakewalk. So I think it wasn’t an actual person dealing with me. Anyway I uninstall Home Studio, Cakewalk and Cakewalk Sonar following the instructions carefully. This includes deleting in RegEdit. I also removed all the Folders as instructed from Program Files etc. Good bye personal settings! Note: I didn’t uninstall Sonar 8.5 and Platinum. Screw that! I only re installed Sonar. The icon created by installing looks like Home Studio icon. I keep changing it and it comes back. There is no sign of Cakewalk or Home Studio on the start screen or on the Apps list. I changed Midi files so they open with Sonar. I click on a midi file and Cakewalk opens with a dozen warning messages about activation and updates.?? The Cakewalk Core folder has somehow returned from the Grave? It seems the only resolve is going to be a new C drive and fresh install. There’s something messed up in Sonar and it still crashes or freezes up. The crash dump files just say Sonar. I submitted them but you always get boilerplate replies that are of little help. Anyway I will wait until it’s is released as something I can purchase and then I will start with a clean system. I sure hope there’s a plan to offer our legacy plug ins like Rapture Pro using the new Cakewalk Product Center. Anyway bottom line is I would be now apprehensive about recommending installing Sonar until they officially release it and we can kiss the Bandlab junk goodbye. Here’s what I’m doing. -
First you should definitely make sure the audio is copied to the project folder. Otherwise the project will loose track of it eventually and the track will no longer play. Download the YouLean loudness meter. I recommend the paid version which will save you time because it allows you to drag and drop audio fines for instant analyzing. What can happen to audio is it has a loud peak and Normalization won’t work. Use the You lean meter to determine the true peak level as well as Luffs. If a track has peaks like this you need to find them and edit them out.

That’s the old dead server from a long time ago. They really really need to remove all those old webpages and do it soon. People will hear about Sonar and find the old site and attempt to purchase it from there.

It’s always a plug in.

The name of a project containment folder is automatically created when you first save a new project and name it. Always check the copy audio box even if there’s no audio just yet or never. Everything including your audio export will always be inside that folder. As you work you can use SaveAs to rename a different version and either save it to the same folder or choose a new location. If you save it to the same folder all it will do is create a new CWP file with the new name. It will share the audio folder. If you choose to use save as with the copy audio box checked and browse to a new location it will create a whole new container folder. Everything to do with your projects should be kept in those project folders. The folder locations in preferences really don’t matter and I only ever change the very first one to my dedicated data drive. There I have dozens of different sub folders for different types of projects. I also now prefer my audio exports are kept in the project folder which is the default. I simply copy it to a album folder later but nice to have the most up to date mix stored in the project. Then all those project folders should be copied to backup drives often! I simply select the main folder and drag it to a second drive and rename it with the date.

Decent light headphones that can help prevent room noise
John Vere replied to Sven's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I have scored dozens of headphones of the type you are asking about from various Dollar Stores over the years. $10- $15. I wouldn’t use them for serious mixing but they are most certainly good enough for listening. I actually have some that sound better than some of my $100 cans. They are all made in that same factory no matter what the brand says. -
Feature Request: Time Measuring Tool in Console
John Vere replied to Peter Inouye's topic in Feedback Loop
You can show all 4 different time ruler formats at the same time. On the right is + symbol to add or subtract different options. Its just below the Off for Ripple edit. The plus sign is pretty microscopic which seems to be trending in Sonar and Next!- 2 replies
