OK I stand corrected. It was sooo long ago. But still as I said even if you don’t put in this application the Beta version will be public if they repeat what they are doing with Next. And we’ll see if they also use Discord.
-
Did you try using the start screen recent projects?
-
That’s what I thought. That info @Jeremy Oakes posted is old news from a long while ago. And as I said I signed up for beta test of both Sonar and Next and was never notified about Next. I got that here on the forum. So the application for beta testing is 100% data gathering. You will probably still get to try Sonar beta even if you don’t apply. At least that’s what happened with Next.

@Glenn Stanton Interesting you mentioned that. The day after I had been installing my plug ins and what not I get a message on my phone that one drive was almost full. I guess as you say the default is for it to sync everything and then beg for money when it runs out of room. I guess I had this under control on old computer as I only use one drive for Word doc and PDF. No pictures etc. I only have the free 5 GB. So I opened one drive web version and everything I’d done the day before was there as well as it was trying to upload all my pictures from the data drives. I deleted 4 GB of stuff and turned off sync. But I’ll look later and see if it’s still off. I was working from the new M2 drive. But it’s interesting that I renamed all the files like I’ve done forever with one click on the name to highlight and type over. Hmm is it a W11 thing? I hate the way they removed Delete from the right click menu! It’s on a second layer. If One drive was syncing I guess anything is possible. Still some work to do before this new machine is beat into submission.

Edit see last post. Well first one wasn’t so much a bug but I didn’t think this was possible. When I upgrade OS drives I just put old drive on the shelf just in case something goes wrong with new one. So I’m looking for an extra drive to stick in my old DAW because I stole the data drives and I find the old OS drive from my Acer laptop from last March. I connected it and turned computer on. Note , this is my old HP desktop I just retired. I find Drive G and yep it’s an OS so I format the drive and carry on. I needed to load Cakewalk because I was checking on a missing plug in on new machine. WTF? Cakewalk said it needs to update ?? And most of my plug ins were missing?? Turns out the computer booted from the old Acer dive and my OS drive was the one I just formatted!! Sssshhhiiiittt ! I didn’t think it was possible to boot from a OS from a different machine ? Oh well. So much for keeping it as a back up. it seems happy but now I’ll have to fix this mess. At least it’s working fine. Then on my brand new W11 DAW I was doing screen captures with OBS and made 15 files. As I worked I had deleted about 8 and then redoing them. I then as always rename the clips using just 1-2-3-4 etc. Then I can take the whole works and drop them into the Editing software Vegas Movie Maker. Done this 100’s of times. I slip edited a few and then I had some additional audio to drop in. I did that and the program pops up a message saying there is missing files? All the movie clips say Off Line. I returned to the folder where they are stored and another WTF! They are all renamed back to original names and all the deleted files are back! W11?? I have never seen anything like this before. I did the next best thing I could do, I shut everything off and went to the fridge for a bottle of cold white wine. It was 5 o clock somewhere. Now I’m scared to go near both my computers!!

The OP has never returned here since that post. So you are best off to start a new thread and clearly state your problem including what interfaces and settings you have checked. It can be as simple as a bad cable.
-
Why do we need to fill in the same form? And as said above!! Does anyone actually have the beta then?
-
I think you mean it was in the Steinberg VST folder. Many plug ins default to there so it’s a good one to make sure is on Cakewalk scan pathways.
-
I know this is a Zombie thread someone just dug up but shows you how things change. Cakewalk can’t but Cakewalk Next can separate a stereo track into 4 stems. Bass, Drums, Vocals and Other instruments. I’m just making a tutorial about it.

There’s such a small price difference between underbuilding and getting what you want. I got all my parts from Amazon because they are the only ones with free shipping to where I live. I think everyone here will tell you that you always get twice or more the quality when you build your own. It’s not hard to DIY. Computer parts all come with clear instructions as well as the 1,000 of videos out there. My son helped me with the parts. This isn’t exactly what I used as some stuff wasn’t available etc. I managed to shave a few bucks off by looking for deals. But this web site helps you fit things together. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/mr_bilko/saved/#view=rkmbpg

As I said I have a few W7 machines but they are most certainly on the edge of being reliable. W10 is now almost a goner. It’s getting pretty hard to install stuff on the W7 laptops.

My new computer only had 2 slots for M2 drives and so I put 2 - 1 TB Samsungs there. I pulled the 2 500 GB regular SSD Audio and Video data drives from the old Daw and put those in as backup drives. So I have 4 drives totalling 3TB. So my working drive is the new M2 data drive. I open projects from the original drive and do a save as to the new drive and carry on from there. Boy are things much faster right now. Video editing/ rendering is crazy fast. Drives are dirt cheap now. So I’d say why would you only have 1? Drives can die or slow down so having things sorted out makes a system more bulletproof. I had a 2 year old SSD drive slow down to a crawl just last spring. It had had its quota of read / writes. It was only 1/2 full.

@Sailor55 We have a lot in common. More or less how I work. it wasn't the best I can do = DELETE!! Try again. I do my 3 tracks in a row knowing I won't keep 1 and 2. It gets you warmed up.

Since per project audio folder was made as the default back with Splat I think, you should never be loosing audio. That was mostly in the days when the default was global audio. You have to manually delete audio. And this is why it is best practices to be backing up properly as you go.

Bottom line is everyone will have a different workflow and if you have time try a few of them and see which one gets you the best results and in the shortest time. Comping with Comping record mode for me makes a huge mess of my projects and you can accidentally erase or loose a good take.I absolutely hate take lanes. I do a combination of 2 methods. First I insert 3 vocal tracks. I run through the whole song and replete this for all 3 tracks. The first take is most often useless if I think it was OK might copy to a 4th but otherwise. I return to track 1 and record until I hear myself screw up then stop and redoing those parts as I go. I use manual and automatic punch in. This is now 80% good to go. I make a copy of this track. Now I listen a few times and redo stuff I don’t like. I’m still in vocal track 1. Now I’m 90% done I chop it into phrases and using my custom shortcuts z to open x to render I fix a few things in Melodyne. I have learned that less is best. Sometimes Melodyne can’t fix something so this is where I might see what I have in track 2 and 3 or the back up. I’m still set up and I might have to punch in a new take. 99% done. Then I use the 2 and 3 tracks to record harmonies if needed otherwise I delete everything not used now. I Melodyne the snot out of the harmonies and do a lot of timing stuff to sync to main vocals. That last 1% is the stuff you might hear later as you add lead guitar and keyboards etc I record my vocal tracks at the point in a song where it is only the rhythm guitars, bass and drums. There’s no effect yet either. You should never record fills until the vocals are finished to avoid conflicts. This is how you play in a real band. I don’t even add drum fills until later. A good song should sound great with just simple back up. I have go play these live so that’s my reasoning.

Any update when old website will be working
John Vere replied to fitzj's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This is a web page right? It has links at the top for everything to do with Cakewalk. But only on the desktop version it would seem. I don’t see it using my phone right now. But just Google the Cakewalk by Bandlab website and there will be links there. Is it just me who is an old fart that knows how to find stuff ? -
I’m 70 and to be clear I hate social media web pages like Facebook. I avoid them all and only dive in when I have no choice. It has become part of being a performer type musician if you want anyone to show up at gigs. Discord was sort of painless. I didn’t install the stupid app. I did that later on my phone were apps belong. I just followed the links from the Bandlab site, created an account using my obscure Google account, and thedownload was right there free for the taking. You install it and log in just like Cakewalk to activate. end of story. I had questions about it so that’s why I logged in on my phone. It’s not been too weird, the typical Facebook type stacking of topics and confusing layout. But I soon figured out how to navigate the Next part of the site. Yes avoid leaving that room if you know what is good for you. It’s sort of like this forum but with a lot more idiots asking idiot questions than here. I got my question answered, I think he was staff and his name was Steve( ???) Later I answered a few peoples questions because after 10 minutes of using it I knew more than they did because first thing I did was start reading parts of the manual. Only 256 pages it’s exactly 8% of what the Cakewalk manual is Yes I did the math.
-
I think I filled that in last June! I also did Next. I think it was just data gathering because in the end they just stuck the link for Next in plain site on the Web page. I most certainly never got any emails. And by the looks of the type of people posting on Discord they are mostly 100 % newbies who have never used a DAW before and are looking for a freebie. Most are unaware that it is for testing and evaluation. Bandlab is playing weird game for sure. If filling in all that junk actually leads anyone here to a download of Sonar Beta let me know.

This is the fault of the plug in vendor not Cakewalk. Some installers are badly done and this will happen. Run the installer again and pay close attention to what the file pathways are. Most plug ins, when you get that message, will allow you to browse to the correct folder.

Any update when old website will be working
John Vere replied to fitzj's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It’s been dead since about 2017 and that is that. It belongs to Gibson not Bandlab. But send a request to Bandlab support and they can fix it for you. It’s at top of this page( desktop version) -
Dang I think you are correct. I’ll go look. But thank for info about it might be W11 and not a corrupted install. But somehow that doesn’t make sense? Possibly the installer itself is what becomes outdated and not the actual plug in. The other one giving me grief is Lounge Lizard. But I’ll start a different thread about that one.

Just an update. I installed Next and been trying it out. I took a master of one of my songs and dropped it in and ran the track separating tool. I goes to the server and comes back. You get 4 tracks. Bass, Drums, Other Instruments and vocals. There was noticeable distortion on the bass track when soloed. The drums sound good, the vocals sound ok but reverb tails are gated. Everything else ends up in the other instruments track which includes the missing vocal reverb tails. It seems to sound fine when you play all 4 tracks. But here’s something cool I thought of. I have a lot of old master wave files from my 4 and 8 track days where the multi track is long gone. Some are good songs but the mix was not great. I dropped one of these into Next and once I had the 4 tracks I turned up the bass and vocals and now the song sounds 100% better. So another tool that you can use for remixes.
