Yes But you will need a midi interface or audio interface with 5 pin midi ports. I had to look it up and it’s not a effects board like you said so my first answer was wrong. It’s a dedicated midi controller.

Yes very odd. I think it was @msmcleodthat told me they are identical other than the side chain

@stevenebowen You seem to be missing half of the PC modules. Long shot, you should not be using Basic Workspace. Change it to advanced. Owners of Splat will have the CA 2A module but only the PC2A comes with CbB. I asked a long time ago and was told it is identical to the CA 2A but doesn’t support side chaining. I have the CA2A on a zillion projects. I have tested the PC2A and never found anything different.

I’m missing something here? Why do you close Cakewalk? I just X out of the project and then the start screen appears and I open a different project. And I’ve never had that issue anyway. And that’s with dozens of different computers and 6 different interfaces including on board audio. Plug in??? Probably.

You can theoretically get 6 to 8 different headphone mixes if it is the same as my 1st gen 6i6. It would require either a multi channel headphone amp or anything that can take outputs 1/2 - 3/4 and the SPDIF and output to headphones. Like old home stereo amps like I’ve used. But using mix control you can pan 1/2 and 3/4 to create 4 mono mixes. Or 2 stereo mixes. Then the 2 headphone outputs. Then SPDIF if you have the right device handy. Warning- it’s a nightmare to sort out in mix control but I did it once way back long ago. I was recording 4 people.

Backing tracks; betting them to an equal level for gigs
John Vere replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It’s like this. If you play in a real band then you spend hours and hours rehearsing and refining your material so you sound good. I treat my backing tracks the same way. If it takes a little extra resources or time to make them top quality why would I not want to do that? -
Backing tracks; betting them to an equal level for gigs
John Vere replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Normalization can work but it only deals with peak levels and not loudness. Loudness is measured in LUFS or RMS. So therefore the need to use analyzing tools to see where each song is at. It really depends on the material. A classical piece normalized to -3 db will sound very quiet compared to a heavier compressed rock song normalized the same. And nobody should be bothering with MP3 files for backing tracks. Why? -
Sing and play instruments = useful band mate. Sing= useless band member Sing and look really good on stage= more useful than sing and play instruments.

Cakewalk audio cuts in the middle of playing
John Vere replied to Alex Solomon's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Audio engine drop out is different that having a plug in in demo mode. Those don’t normally kill the audio engine. Troubleshooting 101-process of elimination. 1- By pass all effects in the Control Bar. 2- if this works and song plays then you need to un bypass and then one at a time bypass each effect. Focus on one’s that are known to cause issues first. 3- if it doesn’t work then it might be a soft synth causing the issue. Freeze ones that you might think are the ones using the most resources. 4- Make sure your system has been optimized for audio by running the Latency Monitor and reading the instructions about DPC. https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon Also if you use SSD drives run a diagnostics app like the Samsung Magician to verify the drive is functioning properly. -
Radial stuff is considered one of the best. But of all the Behringer stuff that I’ve owned (that eventually broke) the little DI box has been very dependable. I think I bought it in the 90’s. I like that it can run on batteries instead phantom. I avoid phantom if I can. The Radial DI is called the Trim Two. It’s also good for keyboards. What is a great feature is it has a mono toggle. I run my laptop in stereo because I use split tracks a lot. But it the sound person wants I can just push the button and now it’s mono.

Yes it’s rare to get first class sound when your bands name is in small print on the posters. They are very attentive of the headliner but if you’re lucky they actually talk to you. What has happened to me a few times is they put my backing tracks at max in the FOH and no matter how many times I ask I can’t hear them in the monitors. So I basically have my own sub mixer and monitor system all in a little box I now have a solution which is I use my Voice live Acoustic pedal to mix my voice , guitar and my laptop and it has a headphones output for my in ears. For my laptop I bought a Radial DI box that can send to FOH and my Voice live. I’m going to be performing at a Festival in March which my wife and I have gone to for a few year and the sound is really good. I asked if I could apply and they were very receptive. The sound guy is amazing as he gets something different every hour from 1 PM until midnight and he’s all by himself and he’s fast. People bring him food.

All versions of Sonar/ Cakewalk have used per project folder for a long time. As David just said the audio files are in the project folder and you can move that folder anywhere you like. If you are using global audio folders and not per project folders good luck on sorting that out. You will have to put the audio back we’re it was and get the project working again. Then use save as with the copy audio box checked and save to the new drive location

An update on the separation tool in Next. Further reading of the manual reveals the mystery of the 44.1 files that come back from the server playing in a 48 project. As we all know any audio dropped into Cakewalk gets converted to the project sample rate. It seems Next doesn’t work like this, it simply converts it in real time as you play it. The results will be dependent on your systems abilities to accomplish this in real time with out glitches etc. So best to take the stems and either convert them or better yet drop them into Cakewalk. They might sound better. Too bad I found out after I made the video. I’ll add it to the comments but nobody reads those anyway Then in my case the original wave files are 44.1 anyhow so I need to change my default for new project and my interfaces settings to 44.1 before I import the song.

It’s a huge issue for any of us who are actually very good at live sound. Even when faced with crap gear. I go bonkers at festivals where the sound person obviously sucks. You can tell right away because all you hear is kick drum. No keyboards no guitar solos and vocals sound like mud. Good news Is the monitor guy actually knows what they are doing so it sound great on stage. We have a local guy who sucks but gets all the sound gigs because he only charges $200 for a whole day. All the bands complain. A lot of us tell the organizers that we are not interested if he’s going to be there. It’s not worth it to play and sound worse than you do in the basement. When given the option we much prefer to go to the trouble and bring our own PA. Love the backdrop. Are you actually playing Midnight Hour? In Bb

I put this aside for a while as I’m so stupidly caught up in Next. I haven’t turned on Cakewalk for a week. I really appreciate all the replies and advice more than you might realize. Next week I’ll definitely put aside a day to get this on done.

It’s been so long since I made an actual tutorial on Workspaces that I totally forgot about the settings in the manager. And so yes mine where set to be left alone. Thanks

Future Re-install of Cakewalk after Sonar is Available?
John Vere replied to dalemccl's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
You are worried about nothing. The installer will remain as is until they pull the plug on the whole thing. Without activation the installer is useless. -
export-tracks-bus fx ticked, but came out no FX
John Vere replied to davidtongmusic's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I use the “Tracks through entire mix” a lot when I create narration for my videos. I need the master buss processing. Important things to check. Select the tracks before you open export seems a little more bulletproof than choosing in the dialogue. Use “entire mix “ as range. For vocals choose mono. Other export settings can change on you when you select certain things. Review all of them before you hit the export button. For stems I always use 48/ 32 no dithering. Should take about a minute when I export 30 tracks that are 30 seconds each. -

I found a few places here’s one from the old Cakewalk form. Boy there’s some old names there haven’t seen for a long time. http://forum.cakewalk.com/m/tm.aspx?m=3193148&p=3 Therez a lot of information and even people have written editing software for it. It’s a little newer than my GR50 which was also hard to find ins files for but you just keep digging on the internet and a huge source is these old user forums.
