  1. I have never had to render midi to audio unless I was collaborating with someone who might not have the same VST’s. All my mixing / panning is done with the instrument track unless it’s a multi channel VST like Xpand2 then I have to pan in the GUI But this is why I do not like to bounce or commit tracks. I will need to be able to make changes during mixing
  2. This a bit of a dangerous question because ask 100 people and you will get 100 different answers. And what if 50 of those are the wrong way of doing it which is a high probability on a user forum. I know you goals are to learn about audio engineering and at least you’re willing to do that. Surprisingly a lot don’t. but I highly recommend seeking out professional documents as a starting point. I’m liking all the Creative Sauce videos he’s a good teacher. My first book was the Yamaha Sound Handbook it’s outdated but the foundation of analog sound engineering is an irreplaceable asset even in a digital age https://bgaudioclub.org/uploads/docs/Yamaha_Sound_Reinforcement_Handbook_2nd_Edition_Gary_Davis_Ralph_Jones.pdf You see if you grew up on analog mixing consoles and your effects came at a high price and required cables, you would know exactly how to run a signal chain. Mike into Input / Or Tape Return adjust gain Compressor via insert jack( bin) Adjust EQ ( pro channel) Aux send to Reverb and delay which go out mono and return stereo to return it to Master ( sub busses to master) See it’s actually very simple. It just seems complicated because it’s not real. But a DAW is laid out just like Mixing console
  3. Did you go into Windows sound settings and make sure the zoom is showing as your input audio device?
  4. Works here, just make sure the smart tool changes to the move tool. looks like a cross. Place cursor in "C" area. This is a picture of a midi blob with all the hot areas for the smart tool. C is move and A is Velocity The greens ends are for dragging the note longer or shorter.
  5. https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/ Did you manage to log in to your Focusrite account page there are lots of video tutorials there. And don't forget to grab your freebies. The Red Plug ins are very good.
  6. . Myself if my DAW did that I would either 1- Not use it. 2- Find out why. The majority of users never have crashes now. And I would always put my money on what was posted above as the #1 cause- 3rd party VST-s that are not coexisting. If you find which ones are not working with Cakewalk and report this they will try and fix it. Only a week or so a go someone posted issues with a certain plug in company and I just noticed in the update release notes that they already fixed it. By the way everyone, looks like Carl was a Troll. ( I think that's what you call 1 post wonders who post dribble and go.
  7. Who needs to tune? We got Melodyne I still have the original because I guess I always install bits and pieces of 8.5 I never use it 'cuase its kinda lame and slow. Most times my Boss Tuner or my Zoom multi effects are in line. And then otherwise I just use my cell phone.
  8. Most importantly what is the audio interface and driver mode you are using?
  9. What my I ask is the reason to include the chords in the midi file?
  10. How many times do I have to repeat this- YOUR INTERFACE IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU ADUST RECORDING LEVELS. Sorry for shouting
  11. I wonder how many newcomers are unaware of the Studio Instruments collection available as the optional download in Bandlab Assistant. It a bit dangerous right now to have TTS-1 as a default. It has old age issues. How hard would it be to give it an overdue update? Particularly converting it to a VST or VST 3 format. It’s becoming unstable There are no GM Players out there anymore.
  12. You should really watch the tutorials as the answers to you questions is absolutely you can do anything your heart desires with a modern day DAW. The learning curve is steep and everything you need to know is covered in the hundreds of tutorials written for Cakewalk. there is a tutorials section of this forum And for sure watch the Creative Sauce series on YouTube
  13. Well I gave up Seems I cannot add multi output instances of it. Either nothing happens or Crash. Big waist of time. Interestingly I googled VST General Midi players and there is really nothing made in the last 6 or more years. The most popular was Rolands Sound Canvas VST which I’m pretty sure tts-1 is modelled after. One person on KVR said that Synth 1 has a GM patch so I just downloaded it and will try later.
  14. I think what the OP is having issue with is ever since they added the + Add track button there’s been this same question a few times because somehow people are not bothering to explore the options in the dialogue and the default is the tts-1 There are I think at least 4 ways to insert VST instruments and each has many options. Open the help module in the Browser and if you hover the mouse over any place all the features of the workspace will be explained there. I use the Synth rack view to add and remove instruments. That can also be added to the browser If you don’t want all those TTS-1 tracks use the Replace Synth option to change them for something else
  15. Yes everybody who uses Cakewalk even long time users can learn from that series. There are some things he misses but overall they are very educational and entertaining. like in that video he disables plug ins one at a time instead of just using the global bypass.
  16. Yes absolutely. It’s too bad the video is about mixing not tracking. Basically you insert an audio track and you don’t need to touch it. Nothing you do changes the recording level or sound quality. That happens in your interface.
  17. The gain and level controls in any DAW do not control recording levels. Your audio interface controls level. The faders are for mixing after you have tracks recorded. The gain controls are best left at unity unless the tracks were badly recorded and need help. The video covers this part very nicely
  18. Wow. I had another crash! And these don't even ask to save before closing. Just a good old fashion "poof" no more DAW. I never get a chance to read the dialog box but this last time I pretty sure it was the tts-1 Were are those crash dumps stored? This one happened when I tried to insert a second instance with multi outputs. All I lost was I had renamed the tracks and coloured them. I've never had an issue with TTS-1 since way back when CbB first was released. Might be this new release is leaving pour old TTS-1 in the dust. I wonder if I can port over my Cubase HALion. It's a very nice sounding GM player. But then I probably need my elicence dongle every time I use it away from my main DAW.
  19. Well weirdly enough that didn't work. I opened the original midi file again, and when I hit play Cakewalk crashed!! I haven't seen that for ages. I got the Fatal Error box and before I could read it Cakewalk closed with a bang. I've heard this about the TTS-1 but never had it happen before. So I tried again and its fine?
  20. Thanks as well, Downloading now. Will give it a try as one thing about Vegas is your only licensed for 2 machines and I would like it on a 3rd. This might solve the problem.
  21. On my web site are a bunch of tutorials that explain how to set up MIDI. First two parts are about using a downloaded file to learn how things work and then I get into recording your own parts in part III https://sites.google.com/view/cactus-studios/home
  22. Mine is at 163 same as the downloaded file I guess. Good job on the TTS-1 Version @abacab Still sounds like the TTS-1 but a most passable mix for sure. I see you kept that B2 snare, I could never figure what that sound was for, electro snare for Disco? In a way it's too bad the TTS-1 does not have the full 16 channel output. You could then put the drum kit using channels 10 through 16 assign kit pieces each of those channels and process the sounds a bit that way. I wonder if Michael is following our total side track of his thread? Hope we didn't scare your off. I think our intentions are all for the betterment of mankind and music I guess the OT was the TTS_1 and you got some of us messing around with it now. I think I'll try a TTS-1 makeover version too. Been a long time since I opened those "other" GUI windows were you can edit stuff. I'm going to stick to TTS-1 and only use the Pro Channel see what I can do.
  23. Yes it was Glens I noticed slower. I’m on my phone I’ll listen to your tts1 version later when I can sneak into the studio
  24. Air products are always on sale. I have everything as a result. Most are top notch VST’s and certainly worth it. But they really need to do something about the installers. I just re did 2 computers and Air was the only product that sucks up way to much of your time. First the iLok. Then they never seem to find their libraries. Do not even attempt to relocate them or you’ll have a nightmare on your hands I leave them at the default and they still are lost.
  25. Pro Channel module so absolutely free
