  1. Lots of old threads about pops and crackles on Delta 66. Just a few there were 1,000 more ha ha.. http://forum.cakewalk.com/Clicks-and-pops-in-Sonar-Pro-with-legacy-audio-card-MAudio-Delta-66-m3638625.aspx http://forum.cakewalk.com/Delta-66-and-cracklesizzle-Producer-85X-m1998799.aspx http://forum.cakewalk.com/The-dreaded-quotcrackle-and-popquot-on-a-beefy-system-yes-another-one-of-these-m2228016.aspx http://forum.cakewalk.com/Popping-m3042287.aspx
  2. I have a new appreciation for Focusrite. I think I bought my 6i6 in 2014. It had some minor issues with the drivers at first but they soon fixed them with updates. It's been a very reliable interface and I can't think of any time it didn't run smoothly. It has exactly the features I needed. Then they go and update the drivers which was totally un expected. Tascam did the same with my us1641. it was over 8 years old and they updated the driver. Now those are good companies. I am regretting buying the Motu M4. It is nothing special at all and basically not much of an upgrade from my Scarlett 1st gen. I should have bought the 8i6. But I do like these meters on the front and so far it's behaving itself after I bought a PCIe USB 3 card and a better power supply just to power it up properly. So anybody looking at interfaces be warned- demand that it comes with the option to use a proper power supply. Especially if your using Phantom powered mikes. Either that or make sure your computer has USB 3 ports and a good power supply.
  3. So there you go. I think that might be a simple plan. Pull that old drive and install new SSD. I just paid less than $100 for a 480 Install a fresh copy of windows 7 and see if all the issues go away. It is nice to keep those old pci cards alive but I noticed over time on the forum people reported that they can go south on you.
  4. http://www.goldwave.ca/goldwave.php Lifetime membership for only $70 Can. I bought it a long time ago it was $50. I was worried about the Lifetime being short lived but they are still going strong. It's a Canadian company as well so of course I'm patriotic about that. I use it for MP3 batch conversion too. My wife uses it to record just the audio from some of her on line seminars. The user interface is dead simple to understand with those nice big cheerful icons. https://www.magix.com/ca/free-download/sound-forge-pro/ I like Sound forge tools for cleaning up old recordings on cassette or vinyl. It come free with Sony turntables and I got the updated version when I bought Movie Studio. Sony used to own Vegas and SoundForge but it is now Magix. I think it's also around $70. But Wave Lab has some features I also need that the others don't have. And it's workflow is faster. It's stupid crazy to learn and a lot of good features are hard to find.
  5. +1 to toping and tailing in a wave editor. This takes me all of a minute to prepare a wave file. I even leave fade outs to do there as I can get it perfect. Gold Wave is free to try. Wave Lab is only $99. I gave up on trying to get Cakewalk to export a "perfect" wave file. Take to long and especially for a whole album.
  6. And better yet install a SSD drive for the OS!
  7. it was just my second workstation my main DAW has vvocal installed. I had just updated everything and my hard drive started to act up. So I had to build it back up again. Was well worth the bother as it’s performing 100 % better due to the SSD OS drive now.
  8. From day 1 Noel has said that CbB is optimized for W10. So there probably isn't a version of CbB that runs perfectly on W7. That said I have logged hours and days using CbB and W7 and a Tascam us1641 ( very old hardware) but this is only recording live bands. I don't do any VST work on that computer anymore. Just audio. I guess I could try it I haven't updated CbB since last June on that machine. So Michael you say it isn't the Hardware but it most defiantly is because that hardware is not going to run CbB the way it would with a new interface and W10 installed. You can most certainly run W10 on that machine unless there are unsupported components like Video cards. As @abacab has said your other option is to go back in time a few years and use software that supported W7 and the Delta driver.
  9. Good to know. I guess I normally use 8.5 Producer. I only have X1LE and the next is X3e Studio. I haven't tried to load VVocal so didn't notice it didn't work. I doubt I'll need VVocal but it pops up on older projects which at this point I think I've mostly updated.
  10. You won't loose anything as Scook has said. I just did a re build and I installed X1LE first to grab VVocal. In my opinion it was the worst version of Cakewalk ever released. You really do need to move forward. You can still go back to X1 as you are learning CbB but you will never go back once you see the 1,000 of improvements made since then. X1LE was a bare bones version. CbB is the top of the line Cakewalk based on Platinum. And as Steve said X1LE is only 32 bit. Nobody should be using 32 bit plug ins anymore unless it's an old favorite that never got upgraded. If I get a crash it will always be an old project with a 32 bit VST. I have removed them from my folders and put them out of the way. Here is a screen shot of X1LE plug in manager. If I opened this in any later versions there is actually more than a full page of effects but they are all VST 64 bit so don't show in X1LE.
  11. If you think Cakewalks system of swapping synths is clunky try and do this in other DAWs. Cubase will drive you nuts ?
  12. So I go to export a song and for the first time in a million years I get the " there is no audio selected" dialog? OK, I remember what to do, select none and carry on. But is this the new version trashing the export function or is this because I used the arranger? I saved the song first etc, By the way, the arranger was cool. Had to read the documentation a little bit but very intuitive. It worked and I re arranged my song in no time at all. Edit: Well I opened a few other projects and this is not happening so must have been a one off.
  13. Just downloaded and installed. Looking forward to playing with the Arranger. I have never needed to use it but have a finished project I'd like to,,well,, re- arrange. To those who are using WASAPI- Be careful of your overdubs. You should really run a loopback test and adjust your timing offset- Only ASIO can correctly report to Cakewalk the correct RTL so that it can adjust the timing offset. This is why it's also important that your interface is the timing master and the device used in the latency dialog. I have had this taken over by Generic drivers and this throws your timing offset out. ( sorry OT but I cringe when I see people using anything but ASIO. )
  14. Sort of but as I said, if your mike needs phantom power. You need more juice which requires an interface with a power supply. The first model in the Scarlett range that comes with a power supply is the 8i6. it's price is $449 which is probably out of the range you wanted to spend. Tascams 4x4 is a good choice @ $249 Can. It has a lot more features than the rest as far as I can tell. Including a power supply and midi. It looks dead simple to operate as I see lots of controls right on the front panel. It's front panel is clearly marked as to what things do as well. I have a few Tascam products and they are solid and well built. My us1641 interface has got to be over 10 years old and still works great. It's funny as I was looking for prices Amazon is way higher than retail music stores. I don't know what country your in but make sure to compare prices and shipping. Sweetwater seems good if your in the US. We can't buy from the US right now.
  15. It would be helpful for these issues Michael if you post your system specs and which audio interface you are using. And FYI I just installed W10 on a 2008 home built computer. It's only a duo core 2.60 and 8 GB of RAM. I upgraded to a 240 GB SSD I got for $48. I had to install W7 first because the MoBo didn't support boot from USB ports. I didn't do anything after installing W7 I just went directly to the USB drive install of W10 I had downloaded directly from MS site. Stupid thing is the file is just a few MB bigger than a DVD. The old beast is running as good as anything else I own but that's the big difference a SSD drive makes. I really don't need a 3rd computer but this was originally a $800 build with a Silverstone case. Been sitting there for years. But anyhow, the reason I posted all that is one solution to your issue would be a good fresh install of the OS as that rules out gremlins. And Cakewalk is optimized for W10,, Noel just mentioned in a thread about W7 support that very soon Cakewalk will not run on W7 as they have to move forward.
  16. Snap to grid is a pretty useful tool. You defiantly need it set correctly for many functions. Example crop/ copy pasting of clips. And adding notes in PVR.
  17. I accidentally figured the drag to the clip pane trick one day and that has been how I do it for a long time now. I was always trying to drop it at the 0 mark and would always miss by a fraction. One day I dragged it past the line and there you go.
  18. BEFORE you record. Otherwise the recording is stored in the global audio folder. It will get COPIED to the project folder when you use save as and check the copy audio box, but your using unnecessary storage if your do that. And there's no real reason to use "save as" again unless your moving to a new location. If you uncheck the save audio box it will save space. But you can use the Versioning feature or better yet MIX RECALL. Mix Recall is a powerful feature that I don't think many people understood or use. Doesn't work for major changes to a song but you can certainly experiment with ideas.
  19. There’s lots of ways to get it back. I use the synth rack Just click on its icon. You can also open a synth GUI by clicking on the icon in the synth audio / instrument track
  20. On my W7 DAW I use chrome and have no problem with Bandlab Assistant I just updated everything last week. edit: I was just reading the early access release thread a there is now a change to the sign in see Noels post below.
  21. Have you been sleeping? Sonar was shut down years ago. Bandlab bought the assets and there have been a million updates So the latest version of Splat is Bandlab version. Install the Bandlab assistant then install Cakewalk from there.
  22. If you read the whole thread you'll see it was not windows update but the OS 7200 HD that was on it way out. You'll see that in the end I easily did a fresh install and in less than a half day had a much better system up and running. This machine is now really much faster that before. It used to take a good minute to boot and would hang on the log in screen. Even after the desktop opened the wheel would spin for a good minute and icons would keep refreshing . Now I'm open and steady in less than 20 seconds. No flashing icons or spinning busy mouse pointer. And rendering seems faster on exports. I am not anti W7 in any way. As I say I still use it. I also have a netbook with XP on it because my 2006 Epson CD label printer only runs on XP 32 bit. Talk about a terrible experience when you try and do anything else! Forget it. I find W7 very user friendly and most tasks work just about the same as W10 but the machine is noticeably slower when using Cakewalk. There are some little subtle differences too. Hard to explain but you go to do something and go, oh crud that doesn't work in W7. I would never survive if I had to revert to Sonar. I fired it up after I installed it as part of the process of grabbing the Sonar freebies. Man it looks sad now. I opened 8.5 and it was almost like a shareware DAW. Personally W10 has been the most trouble free OS I've used and I find it is invisible to me when I'm working inside my Music Apps anyhow. Unplug the LAN cable if your smart your DPC will drop to nothing.
  23. It's sort of good to know about optimizing computers etc. but I just updated 3 computers and 2 of them I rebuilt from a fresh install of Windows 20H2 First thing I did after the fresh installs on both machines was run Latency monitor. It was right at the lowest points on all the scales. Basically very safe right out of the box. As I added software and a drivers for interface it moved up a little but still super safe. I had done Zero tweaks. Only thing I did in the end was disable USB suspend. I think a lot has changed and a modern system is very capable of audio. Perhaps even Windows has improved to the point of handling audio better than ever.
