  1. @Glenn StantonYa I did that , This is what is weird. Everything showed as active and OK, The mike was active in Windows sound settings etc. But the input just wouldn't be available in the Cakewalk audio tracks. It just said "none" I've never seen a case where an input is checked in preferences that was not available so I just wrote it off as bad driver. Anyhow I'm permanently done with this and have happily returned to my Interfaces with ASIO drivers. I will still use on board on my office computer which seems real happy with WASAPI exclusive or Shared.
  2. No this is a good place to ask. The more tutorials the better. I use OBS studio which is free and Magix Movie Studio platinum which was $60 There’s 2 ways I can get Cakewalk audio captured along with the narrative. First is to use WASAPI shared. Second is I will use a small mixer that has the 3/4 output of my interfaces ( DAW playback) and the mike plugged in. This returns to my interface and is recorded by the screen capture. This way I can control the balance between the narration and the DAW with hardware. I’m real scattered if I try and narrate in real time. I mumble and I can also make mistakes and leave out important stuff. so my solution to this is for The last two I made I cheated and wrote a script. I recorded the audio with Cakewalk and edited out bloopers as I progressed. I mastered the audio and then I played it back as I ran the screen capture trying to follow my own instructions. The screen capture records the audio but i use the original by adding it in the editing software and sync it up. I then add some background music and add text and pictures where needed. It’s a Lot of work! But it’s a great hobby as I find learning more about the movie software interesting. I guess we need tutorials on making tutorials
  3. Did you load a basic template? I have used Cakewalk for 20 years and never seen that view. please take the time to watch the tutorials. I have some ( see my signature) and the ones by Creative Sauce are excellent too
  4. To answer your question about songs within the album folder. I only will ever have one version of each song In that folder. In the beginning there might have been more but I quickly delete them as I carry on. On the rare chance I would need that version it will be found easily on the dated backup files. it’s way to easy to take a month off from recording and return and start working on a song only to realize it’s the wrong version. So only the very latest versions are in that album folder on my working drive. When in doubt I look at the date stamp.
  5. Glad you got it working and that out of the multitude of suggestions one of them worked. So it was very similar to my issue. I would have never guessed USB 3 would not work with a new interface. And thanks for the update it is very useful to all to know what the solution was
  6. I think what’s happening is you have input echo on tracks that you don’t need it to be set for. Shut off input echo for all tracks except for the one that you are wanting
  7. That's the easy way. And yes by containment folder that can be either the Project folder or in my case I use Album folders. But once I copy them to a back up location I always date them. Save as with copy all audio checked as Scook is recommending is how I make back ups as I work. Like Steve I have a folder I call " Album name back up" This is on my quick links. It's on a SSD drive in a portable enclosure that's always plugged in. At any given time I might have 20 back ups of my original material kicking around. Some songs are from 1990's originating from an Atari. My backing tracks also progress over time and I have dozens of back ups of those ( 300 songs) I also have a lot of back ups of client projects ( albums) but once finished there out of my main machine and sitting on a shelf. I only keep the 2 track masters on my local hard drives. I have a shoebox full of hard drives and right now I think I have 7 external drives. In my 4 computers there's another 10. Storage is cheap.
  8. Storage is cheap. My work isn’t. I never delete anything period. I just make back ups and put a new date on the container folder. I have files that go way back. And guess what. Every once in a while I find what I need in those old files.
  9. I totally agree with @Hatstand It won’t be a setting or tweak at this point. Tascam drivers are top notch but you do need to closely follow instructions as you install. If it’s like mine you need to turn on the interface when asked. And there is the possibility that the unit is defective that happens. It could even be the cable I just bought a Motu M4 and had same issues as you and it was because it is only buss powered and needs a USB 3 port with lots of juice. Stupid design. If I’d known this I would have bought the Tascam 4x4 Right away I thought this might be your issue but I see you are smart enough to use the power supply You could try another USB port and cable but try installing the ASIO driver first
  10. Did it not occur to you that those boxes need to be checked ? you don’t need to check the ones you’re not using but I see a lot that should be checked. And ASIO always only shows odd numbers 1- 3-5 etc.for input #2 you choose 1-right
  11. The thing is because it’s free if you loose your login info you just start a new account. My self I have no clue what my log on info is I let my computer do that for me.
  12. The op will not return and no loss. Is it just me or are people getting stupider every year? Even us old farts know that there’s a YouTube for leaning about just about everything from How to kill a Chicken ? to fixing your toilet seat.
  13. Ya that’s not what I look at. It says arranger track? You should be seeing the track inspector and make sure ALL is selected. That view tells me nothing.
  14. This is why my habit is to delete as I work. I found that if all I did was overwrite a bad take, the bad take was saved anyway. It's not clear to me if these get delete when you close so I just delete as I go. I always use overwrite option for recording for this reason too. It's a habit from the days of tape where you had no other choice and it suits me fine.
  15. Actually I had a few records back in the early 60's that were put out that were isolated parts of hit songs from the Ventures they also made these for each part of the band too. Not exactly the drum sound I'd be looking for but you might find that other bands did the same.
  16. Bit's was stolen a few years back. I remember that dark day.
  17. Remember in my first reply I said you need to watch my Video? This explains about loopback testing. But my guess is this issue will not return and was just yet another weirdness specific to one project. That seems to happen from time to time. The solution is to copy the old project to a new one. This is a complicated task involving "save as" bouncing tracks etc but it can be done. Hmm I see my next video taking shape!
  18. Can’t believe that the moderators didn’t move all these questions to the proper forum? There’s actually no real info on “how to ask a question “ other than first post. It actually would have been great to place answers to the op here. Like where you should look first before asking a question etc I can think of lots of useful information that could have been here. And one of those answers would have been to not reply to questions placed in the wrong sub forum so the moderator can move it ?
  19. Have you assigned different midi channels to each instrument? I’m not familiar with east west but is it able to have multi channel playback? If so this is how you get each instrument to play. I think most of your answers are in the instructions for the player not cakewalk. VST instruments work the same in all DAW’s
  20. This is very cool. In other words why spend money on a hardware controller. Funny Mike doesn’t use Apple so didn’t know that bonjour is needed for IPhones. ive got an old iPad I can use. In the past I’ve used a wireless keyboard as well as a USB foot switch I like the foot switch best if playing guitar
  21. I have the dongle elicencer and my computer is off line. I can only recall once an error where I had to update it to get rid of the nag screen. But my software still worked and I remember it worked for a few months before I finally updated it. So it is my understanding that the elicencer doesn’t need the internet to work. Only if I goes looking for an update.
  22. I’m lazy. I just export my mix. Open the browser and drag and drop onto track pane. I leave the count in so I can line it up with the multi track
  23. Actually it’s a good idea to post your solution so your thread can then be useful to others over time. I Get many answers to my questions about just about anything from old forum posts scattered around the net.
  24. Right on- I knew you had it figured out, just wasn't clear. I really do appreciate the test. I just could not figure out how to get ASIO4all as an input? It shows in Windows and it shows as an option in Cakewalk but when you choose it nothing happens. This was both with on board and with my Scarlett. But your tests sort of confirmed my expectations. I'm just working on my next video which is about using on board sound. I've been screwing around with different set ups and on different computers. My conclusion is for playback there is absolutely no issues at all. But for trying to input audio you are right back to needing an interface. First the better drivers, next the proper connectivity and third there's no easy way to have real time monitoring . Your stuck with turning on input echo and suffering the slap back delay. Fine if your recording Elvis tunes. So I was only hoping that asio4all might be a solution to the timing offset issue and get the RTL down lower. Looks like WDM or WASAPI is the no brainer.
