Splitting Midi Drums into individual audio tracks
John Vere replied to Rick Stockhaus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I absolutely like to support software developers. This last year alone I have purchased a lot of plug ins from small vendors and developers. My favorite last month was the Youlean meter. And there's an example of good marketing and how to sell me something. let me have a limited featured demo , get me hooked and lusting after those missing features> I just love the drag and drop audio analyzer $30 well spent. I'm waiting for a good deal on the full version of Addictive Keys. I needed a few higher notes the other day and had to use True Pianos. That's one reason I mentioned XLN to the OP. The demos are very usable and no nags ever. Instead of free they could just say " try for free" . That's fine. And with ones like the MT drums it's no big deal at least it is dead simple to download and install. Unlike the IK multimedia stuff. And I almost expect some sort of "catch" to the freebies and when it happens I personally tend to move along and not waist time. Like those BEEPS on some plug ins. That will last 2 minutes on my system -
That's real old info, You do not have to activate MP3 encoder in CbB. Only real old obsolete versions of Sonar which nobody should be using anyhow.

I lost all my BT plugins that came with Sonar :(

It's dead simple, Log on to Command Center and install. While your at it download everything and BACK IT UP! If you were smart you would have all those files from the Command Center download folder backed up a half dozen times along with all your authorization codes. There is hundreds of dollars worth of stuff in there and one day that ol' server will crappe' out or ya, you'll forget your log on password. -
It was a million years ago we had to pay. What version is she using?

That must be why I uninstalled it. In a way I don't like it when plug ins are advertised as FREE and then you find out its really a 30 day trial or a limited demo. I'd rather be told right before I download the terms of use. The worst one that I just did was IK multimedia. It was a bunch of time just to authorize with the "manager" and then you find out absolutely nothing is free> They are all just demos. And must have been 50 of the buggers installed cramming up my VST folder. To bad I think they make good stuff but that's not how you win me over. -
@CHRIS RUTH In your screenshot of the Track inspector input setting I see what looks like Stereo. Don't use stereo to record a mono mike. You will end up with a left or right sided stereo track. Use the input the mike is plugged into . it might be marked as Left -Interface name- ASIO- Mike 1 = input 1 Cakewalk records a mono track Right - Interface name-ASIO - Mike 1 = input 2 Cakewalk records a mono track Stereo-Interface name-ASIO - Mike 1 = input 1& 2 Cakewalk records a stereo track Useful for recording stereo sources like drum machines and keyboards but not mono sources like a mike or guitar. Also looks like the track output is going directly to your interface. Normally we send all tracks to a master bus then that goes to your interface. That way you can control the overall level of the project. Everything looks OK in the first screen shot other than the round trip latency seems real high for that buffer setting. I guess that because it's an old interface. If you keep having issues it might be time to upgrade. A shot of the audio devices and sync and cashing page might be handy .

How to edit Bass Guitar into Hip Hop Bass
John Vere replied to Alex Theo's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Google Fury 800. I don't remember which site but it seems to be on all of them. There are lots of free VST synths on KVR https://www.kvraudio.com/product/fury-800-by-full-bucket-music Plug in Boutique https://www.pluginboutique.com/categories/4-Synth?free=true and this https://www.audiopluginsforfree.com/fury-800/ https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2020/05/31/fury-800-vst/ Just be careful what you click on there's a lot of garbage lurking on some of the free pages. Make sure it's the download for the actual VST and not Win Zip or something else. We have a sub forum here where all the good deals are posted. https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/7-instruments-effects/ You can spend months checking this stuff out but it's time well spent because no one ever has enough VST instruments and effects! What I do is try them on my second machine and if they are a keeper I then install to my main DAW. Never have come close to getting a virus. Just be careful about the sites and where you "download" from. If possible go directly to the manufacture. Software company. Most are free directly from the owners. -

Here’s a question that will help. It’s been year since I’ve done this so what are the boxes you should tick in the insert soft synth dialogue if you want multiple outputs. There seems to be 4 possible choices -
Problem with Ctrl-Click into piano roll
John Vere replied to sergedaigno's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It’s all about studying what Steve just posted. The smart tool is just that. Smart. I just easily selected random notes while holding ctrl. Then make sure the smart tool changes to the select tool and drag. Works for me. But a long time ago I read up on the smart tool and since then it’s all I use. It’s a rare occasion that I need to use a specific tool -

Not sure about scattered notes but FYI if what you want is all the notes of the same value click the corresponding piano note and the will be highlighted -
We get a lot of these because Cakewalk is free. Newbies install it dreaming of creating that next hip hop sensation and struggle with the learning curve. Cakewalks first time start up screen should contain a warning that “This software performs best when using ASIO drivers and an audio interface “. It would solve a lot of issues. ive tried to help a few people and in the process mucking about with on board and mine is Realteck and it sucks. All you can do is edit and play with midi. One thing you’ll see is if you actually get the audio input to work the noise floor is like 40 db You can buy a Interface for $50. Cakewalk doesn’t push mandatory interface use because they would loose a lot of the “New “ user base.

Did you download the latest drivers and install them I’ve never heard of that brand it’s not common it says 2011 so that’s old

Lasso the notes. possition the cursor at the top of the note in the middle until the pointer changes to the the velocity tool drag the notes the above info is outdated only some of it is correct
-
Why are you using Sonar? Cakewalks is free and vastly improved and there is no support for Sonar if you’re having trouble
-
Just choose EDIT and re type the title

How to edit Bass Guitar into Hip Hop Bass

Probably what you are looking for is not a traditional bass sample but a synth bass sample. I must have 1,000 synth bass sounds in my collection. Lots of freebies include analog synths I collect them. My latest is called the Fury 800 which is very cool emulation of my long lost Korg Poly 800. Definitely synth bass in there -
Melodyne and tempo - continuing issues [half-SOLVED]
John Vere replied to winkpain's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I totally forgot about that and what happened to you was exactly what I did after watching that video. I forgot that important step. But the drag drop was still a bit iffy. An example was I dragged the Audio Kick track to midi hoping I could use it and quantize but it was way out to the grid still. I don't think the drummer was THAT bad. That Musical time trick did solve some other issue> Man I do this stuff figure it all out and then forget! Glad that worked for you I will certainly follow that video closely next time I need the tempo map. -

Of all the VST drums SI is not a good choice to do this. Most good VST drums can have multi channels output to audio. When you insert the synth you choose the multiple outs which gives you as many audio tracks as there are kit pieces. Addictive Drums has a free demo you should try. Just go to the XLN website https://www.xlnaudio.com/products/addictive_drums_2 create an account and follow the instructions. It involves installing the XLN online installer. You can also grab the demo of Addictive Keys too. Win Win. There are only a few limitations with the demos but there is a good drum kit minus the toms. No problem, use SI drums for the toms. I had that Steven Slate drums demo and got rid of it. I didn't like it. Mabey the full version is better but I have no time for half baked demos. As far as VST drums go there are some good choices and most have demos. Air Strike 2 its complicated to use but great sounds if you get the hang of it. It's always on sale but I think all the sales are over now. I paid $10 for it a few years back. I don't use it because I like AD2 overall. I also have Session Drums which came with Sonar and it's my 2nd choice. -
Melodyne and tempo - continuing issues [half-SOLVED]
John Vere replied to winkpain's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
There isn't much information about this feature yet. My guess is 99% of the material created in Cakewalk is done to the clock. All the videos I watched used the old audio snap pallet and moving markers method. As I said. It was hit or miss for me. Sometimes it works other times it's a big mess. I have a lot of old recordings that are multi track live band and it's nice to get some sort of tempo map so I can add keyboard parts and quantize. But so far no luck with that. I do beleieve if I had to get it right I'd be using the Audio Snap Pallet. -
@scook CbB supports ARA2 (not Aria). This is the technology behind Region FXs. -- Sorry stupid auto correct on phone keeps doing that. Thanks Steve that clears that up. I was wondering what was included with CbB that makes perfect sense to just get the demo. And that explains @User 905133 issue. Seems they need to fork over some cash to continue. Yes I remember at one point being offered the upgrade and paying $99 a long time ago so must have been when I went from X3 studio to SPlat . I also seem to remember the free upgrade to 4. This is the first time I've had to pay them any money for a long time so it's been a pretty good deal.
-
I should rename this thread the melodyne page. To recap what I think I understand is CbB comes with Aria and the ability to convert Audio to midi using some basic version of Melodyne. Those who never had a Sonar account won’t have Melodyne. No regional effect option. No Celemony account. Those who had Sonar had a free copy of Melodyne that was not even Essentials. Some people over time have upgraded to higher versions and this is between you and Celemony.
-
So you are saying yours Is on your iLok. Is that a dongle or the software iLok. I have the software version and find it odd that Melodyne is not listed there. It always works. I will probably spring for Editor someday too as my guitar playing is getting worse as I age. I have pain in my right thumb so it's hard to manage a pick. I am using this for the first time and might be getting carried away!! I realized my pitch was so bloody off until I started looking at it this way. You have to be careful as it can get a bit crunchy in there. But so far I have heard nothing but an improvement to vocal tracks. Especially falsetto harmonies. That's another reason chords would be nice as you could correlate the harmonies just like messing with a piano chord in PVR. In the past if there was a guitar boner in a solo I was forced to redo that part or get lucky and copy and paste. Now its- split it out- and put it right, takes less than a minute.

Someone else had same issue a few weeks ago and I made them a video to save having to type this same thing over and over. As it was ,they had Digital audio as the output of the master bus instead of speakers. Cakewalk chooses the output at the top of the list in preferences. audio outputs. I have other videos you can get tyo from my signature that help you get started with midi tracks.
