recording drums with behringer umc 1820 interface
John Vere replied to Stefan De Cnodder's question in Q&A
With ASIO there better not be any issues with sync. Your DAW uses reported latency to adjust playback so your overdubbing will sync perfectly with the original tracks. This is only true in ASIO mode. Your songs would be a total mess if this didn't work properly. If you do a loopback test and compare different driver modes. ASIO is right on. The other modes are late. Second best is WASAPI exclusive which when I tested was very good performance but depends on the interface used. But even though the reported latency was low, Cakewalk doesn’t use it in the calculation so it’s still late by around a 32 note -
First. Is there any way to clean up your C drive. It’s not good to have it over a certain amount like 80% or less. How big is it? As far as VST’s go each install is different most allow you to set pathways. Best to keep the main files on C drive and point library to a data drive. it might be you have installed large libraries already and this is what might be hogging up you C drive. But to answer the question yes many people put VST’s and libraries on other drives.

Various issues and problematic Cakewalk behavior
John Vere replied to Lombardi's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
My son bought a Dell laptop was a higher end one too, It just never worked for audio. Dell couldn't help him because audio recording is not on their radar. And he's very tech savvy and always builds his own machines but laptops are another animal. If any one could have made it work he could have. He boiled it down to how the BIOS was set up so this was nothing you could change. So He bought a cheap Acer that worked perfectly from day one. He still has both. Laptops are a crap shoot with audio systems. -
There's some confusing answers. Here are the basics Looks like your Korg is an older keyboard so I'll assume it only has Midi din jacks. Take the midi output of the Korg and run it to the midi input of the Focusrite 4i4. This next step there are many options I will only explain the way I do it for clarity Insert a midi track and set the input to your Focusrite midi input. Omni. If it does not show as an option then look in Preferences midi devices and make sure the Focusrite is checked. Insert a soft synth instrument and test it is making sound using the GUI. If you don't hear sound check the instrument tracks output is set to Master- and your master bus is set to output to your 4i4. Now set the output of the midi track to the VST instrument. Make sure input echo is on. In your screen shot it looks like most of what I say is already done except the midi track has nothing to play into.

I need to delete a few bars from my song at the start
John Vere replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
WAY easier to just top and tail an exported track in a wave editor. Lot's of free wave editors out there. I use Wave Lab ( $100) but I also use Gold Wave which is free to use with nag screen http://www.goldwave.ca/ There's also Audacity and Sound Forge. Cakewalk is your multitrack tape deck, A wave editor is for mastering. Just open or drag and drop the file and in 2 quick mouse moves delete and unwanted material from beginning and end. Cakewalk cant ever export exactly what I want. -
Various issues and problematic Cakewalk behavior

Have you run Latency Monitor? https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon Laptops can be nasty homes for some DAW's. They need more setting up. And that's an older interface are the drivers up to date for your OS? -
How to set up EQ and compression in your DAW, to print with your vocal recordings:
John Vere replied to Kenny Grieve's question in Q&A
There's no point in doing this as the compression has to happen in the analog world before it hits the A/D convertors. I bought a Joe Meek 3EQ with a simple compressor just for this reason. There are many good pre amps available as well as analog compressors. You can't use most analog compressor unless your interface has insert however. It would need a mike pre built in first. Some audio interfaces and digital mixers have compression built in but they are kinda pointless as they are digital so the A/D has already slammed the signal into distortion. They can work for "coloring" the signal however which is nice ( sometimes). I also have used small mixers that have a one button compressor on some channels, but they seem to only make the voice louder? Just record the voice best you can at a safe level and deal with the uneven levels afterwards ITB. Or get out that credit card! -
recording drums with behringer umc 1820 interface
John Vere replied to Stefan De Cnodder's question in Q&A
If you toggle input monitoring you'll hear the effects etc BUT you'll also hear the round trip latency of your system which might be a lot. This won't work very well for drumming where you'll want tight on the money timing. For stable tracking of audio best to use a safe buffer level and do not use any effects. Bypass all effects while tracking. In a way this interface will work but you have no way of using compression or EQ going in. These will be added after you record. If you desire EQ and compression going in then you will need more outboard gear, like a mixer etc. Just use good mikes and positioning and you'll probably be fine...There's always Drum Replacer Monitor your drums in the headphones using direct monitoring. The blend of your DAW playback and your input is controlled using the knob marked Monitoring. -
That sounds like an audio driver issue for sure. An no you cannot fix that. Lesson learned. You need a bulletproof system for live band capture. Test the system first.

Be warned. Soundcraft mixers have issues with the interface part, the mixers are great- I bought a Signature 10 to use for live performance and the USB worked for about 2 years and now is broken. We only played 7 gigs with it and I also used it briefly as an audio interface. I googled my issue and it seems common. I contacted tech support and they gave me a pulled off the shelf answer which was irrelevant. I think it's the chip inside the mixer is toast. I asked if this is due to USB 3 on their user forum and it's been 3 months and nobody has answered my question. Better off with a dependable interface like Focusrite or Motu and a none usb mixer. Possibly the Behringers have better life span. I was in a band a few years ago and we collectively bought a Yamaha USB mixer. It is still working as far as I know. It used Steinberg drivers and was well done.

I might try a different computer then as I'm know curious. Is there more than one place to download? I used this https://www.asio4all.org/ The home page is pretty offensive.

SOLVED: Pops and clicks with bounced audio
John Vere replied to Craig Reeves's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
When you say bounce do you mean a track or a Export mix? A bounce normally is from a track to a track or a group of tracks to a bus. Is this what your doing? And I stopped using Isotope plug ins because they gave me grief. Nice stuff and not really buggy, but they are CPU hogs and I was getting audio crackles even at higher buffers. So you might want to try a bounce without them and see if it goes away. -
Are you using W7? I downloaded asio4all and it installed and I get the PDF file and it shows under apps but my system does not recognize it as a driver so I couldn't test it. Last time when I used it was on this same laptop using W7. The Laptop is now W10. And there should be a icon in the tray to access settings etc. I noticed the documentation only mentions W XP and Vista??? So anyhow I uninstalled it and that's that. Anyhow I see this is yet another "waste of time thread" as the OP obviously has wandered off after only 1 post. I wonder how many 1 post users there are on file now? This whole Q&A thread is sort of a waste of time. Nobody ever votes best answer.

SOLVED: Pops and clicks with bounced audio
John Vere replied to Craig Reeves's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I'm not in the habit of bouncing but what comes to mind is your clips are just a bit to hot to begin with so the rendering ( number crunching) pushes something that was too close over the top. I do know this can happen when you export a hot mix that never peaks in the Master bus, but after export will show overs in a wave editor. I write it off as digital mojo. I would recommend working at a safer level. Just thinking an easy solution would be to put a brickwall limiter set at -.1 or? in the effects bin of the track( buss) before bouncing. -
I don't really use TTS-1 anymore but while making the video on separate outputs and then adding good VST effects to the sounds I was impressed at how much improvement just EQ, Compression, reverb and even TH3 could make. When your ready to investigate some new VST's ask here as most of us have a lot of sources for free or very cheap stuff that we use. First stop is try the SI instruments that come with CbB. They are in the additional downloads from the Bandlab Assistant. Log on to Plugin Boutique https://www.pluginboutique.com/ and from there grab the Ample Bass and the guitar. Verberate Basic 2, You Lean Loudness meter and the Yojo Banjo. Then I also use https://plugins4free.com/ lots of good stuff here as well. If you have a Focusrite Interface grab their free collection as well as you get a free add pack from XLN audio. XLN audio has a demo version of AD keys and drums which are very good. All you got a do is create an account and install the manager app.

Ya we wash the dishes in that That's a reverse Osmosis drinking water sink. Here's the other end of the counter. This was a few months ago it has a lot more junk on the walls and counters now. I made all the cabinets and drawers. The doors we got second hand the whole kicthen for $100, solid oak, and painted them. Anyhow boy are we off topic...

Yes with some synths any overlapping double notes mute that note. This can even happen if the duration of the first note overlaps a second note. Sometimes you have a note you can't hear and it is hidden underneath an overlapping note. You need to think of your parts as the way they would be in real life. A Wind instrument cannot play 2 notes simultaneously. If there are 2 players then yes. Best practice is to put each instrument ( player) in it's own track and in the case of the TTS_1 this also requires assigning a different channel. Very easy to do. Create part one using a only one note at a time and assign it to TTS_1 Channel 1. This is done in the track header in the output option boxes You have Channel/ Bank/ patch Now create a second midi track and assign it to TTS-1 Channel 2 and so on. And generally TTS-1 is a good starting point but most of us use Sample based VST's which have higher sound quality. I made these videos to demonstrate TTS-1 options. Video IV is about replacing TTS-1 tracks with other VST's.

ASIO4all is simply a wrapper for WDM mode. It is not a true ASIO driver. Only an ASIO driver can calculate the timing offset properly. Don't get me wrong I used asio4all for 2 years on a laptop and it was great. But it is no longer needed due to WASAPI and if the OP purchases a proper audio interface then asio4all becomes a problem on some systems and has to be removed. WASAPI works real good on W10 systems if all your doing is midi or loops. You cannot expect to overdub new tracks and have them sync properly in any other mode. This is a loopback test using different modes. I have never tried a loopback with asio4 all and it would be interesting to see the results.

I don't get what you want to do. Is it to slow the song down? Please explain what the results you are after.

I've been using Cakewalk since 2004 and I still learn new things weekly. It is still the only reason I hang around here. Even answering questions forces you to go try new things or look it up -- something our OP's need to learn how to do :) I tend to only use the few features I need which is basically a midi sequencer and a 4 track tape deck. Like Ripple editing was added a long time ago and I have no clue how or why I would use it. I did try the new arranger and it's found a use for it as a very spiffy replacement instead of using markers for Verse , chorus etc. As I said I avoided Melodyne simply because I just never took the time to read ( watch) up on it. As time wears on and life slows down I find I have the time to start learning new tricks. Yesterday I watched "How to DIY Mini Split heat pump" videos for 4 hours. I now feel fully up to the task which will save me probably $1,800. Last winter it was watching Cabinet making videos. You have to be careful as there's some real armature advice floating around the net. You can tell the professionals from the weekend warriors pretty easily. But we re-did our kitchen for under $6,000 including appliances. Before After

If your project is only midi then change the tempo. If it's audio you can't go that far from the original it will sound horrid. You can change audio by a certain amount but not that much.

Login Button doesn't working in Bandlab Assistant. I can't download Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Дмитрий Сухов's question in Q&A
Remove Bandlab assistant in APPs Go to web site and re download and install Log in -
This is common. As Mr Tecknot has recommended- Use WASAPI mode -DO NOT us asio4all that was 15 years ago. And always check your Master bus is set to your speakers and not the Digital output.

You know this is actually funny. We get hundreds of posts where the OP says “I hooked up my midi cable (or USB) and there’s no sound. “ We politely explain that midi is not audio that it is only data I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen “ I hook up my Audio cables and there’s no midi “. But chances are that the op has a keyboard with a USB MIDI output and won’t need to return the interface. I’ll blame this on pour salesmanship in the store. They should have asked the op what they were trying to accomplish and supplied them with the correct gear
