First I looked in the new export dialogue but there is only lots of options for Audio, no midi found there. So thn I made a quick screen capture of how I export a midi clip. I had already done this yesterday so it did ask to overwrite that file. But no warnings about saving and loosing audio.. Why would it? Yep you can drag a clip of multiple clips to the Browser. I used the short cut to the projects folder and re purposed the "Mix Scenes" folder as a place to drop them. As you can see it numbered each clip correctly too.

Studio One 5 plugins used in Cakewalk?
John Vere replied to Jerry Pellegrino's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Well Cakewalk locks out plenty of stuff. Like all the Blue Tube plugs that I guess came with Sonar. They show on other apps plug in lists but if you try and insert them you are told they are licensed to Cakewalk. -
I’m glad that this is normal for others. I always thought it was just my computer being slow to draw.

Good detective work. Might have caused the drag and drop to not work I only tried it with one clip as I assumed this was what the op was doing. In that case it might work better to first bounce to clips or tracks so it’s one clip. But that said it looks like a group of repeating drum loops anyhow so you would only need one to use elsewhere One of my backup / future proof methods is I always “Save As” to a midi file all my projects that contain midi. Most of the time spent on many projects is midi. This is sort of an interesting topic I’m going to play with this today. I bet you can even drag clips back into the Browser
-
Why didn’t the drag and drop work? It always works. I got curious and just tried it. make Cakewalk screen smaller so I can see the desktop on the right. Point mouse at a midi track click and drag to desktop let go and there’s a file there that plays midi data in any player or back in Cakewalk. Like Jack above if I highlight a midi track and choose export as midi file I don’t get any warning. It just creates a midi file in the project folder. I can’t think of what could be weird about your midi track that this doesn’t work!

Well this is the life of all software users. I’m still using MS Office 2010. I also have a license for 2014 but it only allows 1 computer? 2010 doesn’t seem to care so I have it on everything else. I’m oblivious to any issues I might be suffering because it’s old ??Outdated? I can’t tell . I-have a nice collection of Sonar with 8.5 , X3 and Splat. I won’t count X1 as it’s a POS. If all goes south I can go back to X3 because as you say it is cloud proof. It would suck big time but I’m sure my recordings would still come out just fine. The good news is that Cakewalk is growing at a fast rate with a bigger user base than ever. Google search stats show literally 1,000’s of searches per day for certain keywords. How to use Cakewalk by Bandlab being one of the top search phrases. So I sort of doubt we’re gunna die a sudden death ?. I personally think it’s just going to get better. We can stop waiting for the other shoe to drop If you are paranoid, Just back your projects up in different formats like midi and save your audio tracks as complete stems starting at zero. There’s always a way to use midi and Wave files in any DAW.

Isn't the controller Velocity sensitive? To lazy to look it up, but pretty much all controllers are velocity sensitive so as I said in my first post you "play" velocity by pressing the keys harder or softer. The controller will also have a Velocity curve setting to fine tune your playing style to the keyboards response. I turn off Velocity when recording organ and bass parts, traditional B# are not velocity sensitive and bass I want even for the type of music I make.

Lots of way. Drag the midi clip from the project to a windows folder or desktop Use the file menu export dialogue Save the project as a midi file
-
Obviously in your controllers settings options the mod wheel is assigned to velocity? Never heard of that one Volume yes, velocity? No. Velocity is normally controlled with the keys. Be aware that velocity is not the same as volume. Velocity changes the timber to reflect a soft or hard attack like how hard you blow, pluck or strike an instrument. For strings it’s often a combination of volume and velocity to get the correct swelling effects etc. This is why velocity is normally controlled with your keyboard so you can be expressive using your hands. I have not worked with the new Articulation feature yet but this sounds like a tool that was made for this stuff too.

First troubleshooting 101. Test that Cakewalk is working by opening. Load a template project activate the metronome on playback and hit the space bar. You should hear audio. So nothing wrong with Cakewalk. Now close this template and open your project from the start screen or the file menu. If Cakewalk crashes its 99% probably a plug in causing this. Open Cakewalk in safe mode and find the garbage plug in. You issue is probably one of your plug ins isn’t installed properly

Not sure if it impacts as I generally don’t have issues but you made me realize that I deleted all that on the web site and didn’t change the settings on that computer yet. I have 1 drive synced to 4 devices including my phone. But I have it set to not download unless I open a document. But not sure about uploading so now on my to do list for today.

I always install Sonar 8.5 first on any new build. Not so much for the few goodies like V Vocal, but just to open it and marvel at how good it looks compared to what happened after with the X series.
-
Possibly the issue was the clips were of a certain type. I remember reading in the documentation about there are certain attributes that will prevent you from using regional effects https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Region_FX.01.html
-
Just one question when you said the Melodyne interface disappears did you check for a tab on the multi dock? As said already you need to fully install a purchased copy of the software, register it etc. Open Cakewalk and let it run the plug in scanner. Then highlight a short audio clip and right click the clip and choose regional effects and Melodyne. This will open a tab in the multi dock with the Melodyne interface.

Funny this came up as I got the your one drive is almost full warning the other day. I opened the web page folders and the issue was my Document folder on my main DAW had been uploaded complete with all the Cakewalk and Addictive Drums etc stuff. Thanks for that tip.

I have started using the Add Track dialogue mostly because I like that I can choose default input and outputs for that session. Here's a few ideas that would possibly improve this feature. Pardon if it's already been requested. 1. Save your preferred setting as either a Workspace option or at least per project. Presently if you close a project your setting are all lost. 2. Add the options for choosing track colours. 3. Add the option to add a Name. 4. Add the option for adding an Icon. 5. A feature missing that is in the Insert Synth dialogue is the "enable Midi output" option.

getting the module bar to remember its layout
John Vere replied to Sion Jones's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Here. I just made Workspaces easy. They actually have a very good tool for managing which modules show. Workspaces are no more or no less complicated than using the menu in the control bar. -
Cakewalks whole internet access is pretty bad from my point of view. As the OP just found out Google search will often take you to the old DEAD web pages. Most times however you get the pop up splash screen telling you what you already know. Cakewalk is free! It might be more useful if it gave you links to actual live pages. There’s even pages that lead you to purchasing Sonar? You can get quite far before you hit the wall. And the most important pages that need work are the documentation . It’s a mess and only a few people would figure out how to make the icons and pictures visible. Not sure why they keep it on an unsecured site? And then there’s the totally dis functional Download and install the actual software. None of this bothers me personally but I can see someone who has heard about The greatest Free DAW called Cakewalk becoming pretty frustrated with the Web site and giving up. I expect to Google “Cakewalk “ and a page opens with a big fat download link right there on the home page. Instead I get a page dated 2014 with a boring introduction
-
Ya but crazy complicated. Never did get far with it. Movie Studio even walks you through basic stuff the first time you open it. A built in getting started tutorial. Now that’s user friendly!
-
What video editing software do you have? Most of the semi pro editing software will have audio editing built in. Movie Studio ( Sony Vegas) even has a way to open the audio track in any Wave editing app and comes with Sound Forge. I haven’t tried it but it probably could be set to open in Cakewalk But even better is most of my Plug in’s I use in Cakewalk work in the effects bin of Movie Studio. My experience with Cakewalk and movies was pretty negative so I’ve not used it for videos for a few years now. Probably a Black Friday deal on Movie Studio right now. I paid $30.

People who aren’t bothering with workspaces are sort of missing out on how Cakewalk can be customized and saved. I think screen sets sort of failed because they were project only. It was a hassle to save and copy to a different project. Therefore they came up with workspaces which are not saved with projects they are a global setting. The concept is simple. Create a screen set up you want with lots of details and save it. You only have to do it once if your set up never changes. Then if something buggers your screen set up just re load your workspace. But that said if you never change you screen set up you can most certainly ignore workspaces and screen sets. Anyone who knows the hide show shortcuts C, I, B and D plus divider resizing can quickly change things too -
Cakewalk forum has never blocked any posts containing any products and the links to them. Including other DAWs. Only if it’s obviously spamming. But someone still has to report it.
