My understanding is as Windows moved forward as well as the fact Cakewalk is specifically a Windows only DAW and so heavily tied to your OS. Example CbB still works on W7 but with a warning when you install. I don’t think Sonar will even install. Then every audio interface has updated ASIO drivers and with those devices you might find WDM mode is no longer supported. So ASIO 4all is just not compatible with modern versions of Cakewalk. It used to work back in the Splat days. WASAPI is all you need for using on board Computer audio but then older interfaces as well as cheap designs might not support WASAPI modes. So yes it’s a Cakewalk / Windows thing because Cakewalk / Sonar is designed and tested on only W10?/ W11 now. Behringer is more a Max OS oriented company and really only those 2 cheaper interfaces are useless for PC users. They work fine on Core Audio. There’s a few similar priced interfaces that have proper ASIO drivers. There’s no point even wasting time trying to get one working. dozens of threads on this topic.

Roland A49 if you are not a real keyboard player. More than enough keys for hackers like me and it is small enough to stay on my desk. It only has a couple of assignable knobs so a lot definitely depends on if you want a controller or just a musical instrument.

Nu Sonar, Quick Start screen not showing last saved version
John Vere replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Thanks Noel. I am out of town for a while and will check this out when home. I just did a fresh install as requested by staff due to Crash dump submission. I totally removed both Sonar and Cakewalk. Note the instructions they sent to me for a clean install seemed outdated and they were for Cakewalk not Sonar. But I think I managed to accomplish this . I did not reinstall CbB and not planning on it. So just Sonar going forward. I do have Splat and 8.5 as well. But hopefully they weren’t causing the conflict. I was also having crash issues with Vegas pro so I need to see what’s going on. I just built the computer last November. Could be something I never set up to optimize like in the bios. And I was definitely logged in as it was a case were I had just downloaded from web site and installed. I got multiple messages about logging in, a new update? , additional updates etc. So I logged in and on restart I still had the new version available message which seems odd due to just downloading it. So I re installed and one done I got that membership and the log in messages again. A similar sequence of events happened on my laptop as well. Others have commented on all the seemingly weird toast messages like updating help and studio instruments which are all ready installed after you install the update. I think this is also happening with CbB. Update: When I got home I opened Sonar and got the spinning wheel. I opened the Task Manager and Saw that XLN Cloud service was running. I think I must have forgotten about it as I always disable all phone home settings in all my Apps. Anyhow, it got rid of the spinning wheel completely now. I also went through all the Windows apps and found a bunch that I needed to set to Never ( run in background) I also ran the Samsung Magician ran the performance tests and the disk optimizer. I ran Resplendence Latency Monitor and Why So SLow and got a glowing report from both. Why So SLow is found on the Resplendence web page and it's free. I goes over all aspects of your system and reports back to you. I also got a notice to update Sonar again and this time it kept me logged in after it updated. And my Start screen defaults to the Local Projects now, so everything is 100%. Thank you @Noel Borthwick for the always welcome assistance. You are not allowed to retire until I'm too old to do this stuff! -
Cakewalk saying I need to reactivate before 12 days
John Vere replied to JeffSouth's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yep exactly -
Too funny. And a big yep from me.

First thing you can try is simply drag the click track to the timeline and Melodyne will automatically create a tempo map. Works best if the track you use is loud and transients are obvious. Then turn on Ripple edit turn off Snap Grid, and drag the project so it starts on the downbeat of the closest measure to the Right. Turn off Ripple edit when done. You need it on so the tempo map will drag with the project.

If your projects are midi then you should make sure you save each and every one of them as MID. files. The sooner the better. Midi files can be opened in any DAW that I demoed which was 12 over the last few months. Most will play a GM format with out fuss. My own creations all show up with the synth I used labeled correctly in the track names. So all you need to do is insert the correct synths and recall the pre set you used. It’s a matter of having all the information about that project written down and easily duplicated in the other DAWS. I think Ardour was sort of like Reaper which was so weird I didn’t like it at all. They all have there fan clubs but I was basically looking for a familiar workflow. Yes CbB is not easy to replace because it was a full featured DAW that was only temporarily made free as part of a brilliant business plan. That’s not a problem for me. I’m already renting Sonar and I’m saving Gig money and I will purchase it the minute they release it. But I also have a few other DAW’s on hand just in case something stupid happens.

17 days until the anniversary of Jesse’s announcement. I like the group of emotions above ? It sort of says it all as far as how people react to this very day.

Samsung has a app called the Magician that will test your SSD drives. I had a slowdown issue about a year ago and turned out my data drive for Cakewalk was not running at specs at all. Turns out things like audio and video editing can max out the read/ write cycle these drives have. It was only 60 % used but super high on the cycling. I cloned it using the app to a new better drive and my problem was solved. Not to waist anything I did a slow format and the old drive was good again so I used it in another computer.

You will have to pay for Sonar eventually. There is a remote possibility of a bare bones stripped down version that may be free or very inexpensive. In the meantime definitely download Waveform and try it out it’s free. Pro tools also has a free version that is worth having. Those are my top picks out of a half dozen other free DAWs.

Yes you can blame the Pirates for why we no longer have the old simple system of serial numbers. This is why Bandlab put CbB on a activation system from day one. They knew what they were doing.
-
I guess it’s a simple matter of terminology but it’s called a Membership not at subscription. I look at it like my membership to DistroKid.

I think my point is that it will be worth the wait. Apparently it is a very small team trying their best to get this out there and ya, there will always be a few bugs in complicated software. Looking at the list they were mostly very nit picky little items found by users. And this is where it is at, we are still helping them out by testing and reporting. Just for you so you possibly won't find any bugs when you finally get to buy it. And why do you use the word subscription? You cannot subscribe to Sonar. It's not for sale yet. It is an early access version which we can try out free or "rent" by the month for now until it is made available to the general public. And as we were told there will be definitely be purchase options. We have all made it pretty clear that no one is interested in subscriptions.

Nu Sonar, Quick Start screen not showing last saved version

I had just updated this morning. See my post about thanks for the 59 bug fixes! And of course I had to re log in which seems par for the course. But I am often greeted with that screen and that’s fine as long as all this goes away once we are in the clear of this early access/ Backstage pass annoyance. Looking forward to the big announcement! -
Just installed the latest update. I always read the release notes. I counted 59 Bug fixes! So good job everyone. I even saw one I reported. And the Sampler has arrived. You see folks, it will all be worth the wait. I just played a gig last weekend and the money is sitting here waiting for the news!

You didn’t need to register the products back then. The serial numbers were all that was required. That was the days of key generated serials and possibly half of the users were using pirated copies. Example I can install and run Sonar Producer 8.5 , x1 LE or X3 because they just use serial and registration numbers that are on the covers, No need to phone home. They do recommend you register them which I did and that is handy if you loose the DVD. Sonar 6, 7 and 8.5 are not registered on my list. I lost my disks a long time ago and only had made a ISO image of 8.5 . The first version to phone home was Splat needed the Command Center. Then CbB was using Activation system. So it’s possible the software being sold above is just the result of someone sitting on a basement who ISO copied an old pre phone home version off a disk they had and is selling it now because there’s people who have heard there’s new DAW called Sonar. They can include the same serial and registration numbers in the follow up email.

Nu Sonar, Quick Start screen not showing last saved version
John Vere replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I personally don’t like the new start screen at all. It’s labeling is confusing and yes I’ve noticed it doesn’t seem to place recently opened in order. I have returned to my old method of opening directly from my project folders. Note the clear simplicity of the old start screen. 3 options that say it all. Now this is what I normally see on first boot. And the list is now not clear where my existing projects are? You have to toggle the Recent and All, this is annoying to me. Click, click click click, And this is obviously always on line and phoning home because there's a little blue circle every time you make a move. And what's with on line Projects? I guess that's a Bandlab App thing? It makes me want to go offline again. -
I agree as I have often needed to undo a change that happened to a completely different track or part than the one I’m now working on that I’ve put in 1/2 hour of work on. I’ve probably saved a bunch of times as well. It would be way back. I guess the feature would be a long list of current changes that you open and could see and choose the one item that needed undoing.

Export tracks of different lengths from same project
John Vere replied to Soundman32's question in Q&A
Tracks through entire mix will export each track including any processing on the tracks and master bus and each track will be the correct length. -
It’s not clear what version it actually might be. Orange implies Cakewalk by Bandlab. That would be funny if the download is just CbB. I still have X1 LE registered in my account. It was free with some Roland Hardware I bought. I never really used it.

There's no guarantee that this would work smoothly. Better solution is purchase the L8. That's what I'm using now. It also is 32 Bit. Two UAC 232 @ $269 = $538 Zoom L8 $529 ( go on sale for much less) Two UCA 232 = 4 pre amps 1 headphone mix per unit, example how do you set up cue mixes? The Zoom L8 = 6 pre amps and 2 Line inputs. It has a full featured digital mixer and you can have 4 custom headphone mixes. It shows in Sonar as 12 inputs There are 8 mono. But you can record the Master as stereo which will record wet using the very nice built in effects. Inputs 7 and 8 can also be stereo inputs from other devices as well as computer loopback, very useful. You have Hardware control over most of your tracking cue mixes. You have meters! And you can back up everything as you track to the built in digital recorder. Never loose a take again.

Do like the cheaters do and set up a computer that plays the song over and over all week long.

I Googled Cakewalk Sonar and look what was there! On the comments it shows 2024. Such a deal! This is also interesting what shows up. And read the little notes in the lower right info box- This is labeled Cakewalk Sonar and it says " was a DIgital Audio workstation. 2017. They better get going on having a proper web presence, way too much old garbage attached to the Sonar name. Bad move using it again I think. This is not what I would want to see if I Google Cakewalk Sonar. SO LE is $200 and Splat $360. Too funny.
