  1. Just to clarify how things work. All input signals are 100% controlled by your audio interfaces gain settings. Some interfaces also have software mixers so it it super important to read the manual for your interface to have 100% understanding of signal levels. Personally I would only ever use a proper audio interface for recording audio just for this reason alone. You could shut the level controls in Cakewalk right off and it will make no difference to the signal level that is recorded- OK got that? Most all audio interfaces come with a monitor setting that allows you to blend the DAW playback with the input signal. The ability to mix this either with a front panel control or in the software mixer is also important to understand. if your interface has a mix control it will be marked with something like input/computer. If it’s a software mixer you need to learn about how it works using a tutorial or the instructions. They are all different and some are overly complicated. On the 4 interfaces I own this does not involve making any adjustments inside of Cakewalk. I simply either move the balance control or adjust the software mixer. Generally the blend/ balance control is at 12 o clock. If it isn’t then you might want to review your levels in Cakewalk. Heres another audio system fact that is misunderstood. A lot of people seem to think you use input echo. Absolutely for midi tracks but wrong for audio as if you turn it on you are now hearing the input as it passes through all that processing and out the back end. It has now gone from your mike to the interface A/D converter then USB system, buffers any effect on the track might add latency, more buffers and the back out the USB to the D/A converter to your headphones or monitors. This adds an average of around 10 ms on most peoples systems. So you will hear that as a delay. Really the only time you would use input echo is to play a guitar into a guitar sim VST.
  2. Tutorial #1 shows you how to set up audio correctly, All audio interfaces use 24 bit and normally can’t be changed but on board audio has options.
  3. Theses day just about all studio monitors are powered. The big advantage is the best models have added DSP to make them flat response. And then the top end ones are tuneable for further control and correction. But I will stay with my good old passive NSM10 Yamaha’ s probably until I croak or become incapable of studio work. I used a perfect match Yamaha P?? Power amp with them for over 20 years but it started crapping out and I tried a few alternatives. I too have a collection of very good old school home stereo integrated amps. But home stereo system are totally coloured. So that’s not going to work just as you discovered. A little research ended up with me looking at using what they put in the new powered monitors, a class D amp. I ended up with 2 as they are not expensive. I have one made by Dayton Audio and the one I’m using now is made by S.M.S.L. It’s only 50 watts and I run it at 12 o clock and that’s as loud as I need. I could most certainly spend a lot more money and get something bigger and with better specs but I’m not having issues with my mixes so for now I’m fine. And yes my room is very nicely treated. And yes I have a sub but I never turn it on unless I’m in a kick back with a glass of Scotch listening mood! I make hundreds of backing tracks so you might say I do an excessive amount of mixing. My solution is this: Bass-I always use Ample p bass and the Midi velocity is set at 106. The output of the track is steady at my target level. This is with fader at unity. On backing tracks I run a little hotter than full songs. Kick drum- same deal. I always use the same kick in AD and midi velocity at 100 max. It’s EQ’d and processed in my preset. Every song uses this same kick. Boring? I don’t care, It always works and if it isn’t working all I need to do is fix the preset. If you need to tame the bass in you mixes a quick and simple solution is put a hi pass filter on the master and try raising the frequency cut off a little bit at a time. My guess would be if you don’t have a hi pass filter happening already then around 50 hz might be enough.
  4. The fact that it resets on re start of playback is implying that there is a volume (cc7) event in the Midi data. Open the Event list and look for one.
  5. What you are doing wrong is a simple matter of not understanding how to use your DAW or your interface yet. You really need to do some homework before jumping in and trying to record
  6. This is true but most of us who are long time users have come up with our work arounds and for me this is rarely an issue. I just exported about 30 backing track projects that I had wanted to split the bass out into the left side. I normally would use the time selection in the export but that’s too much trouble when working with this many songs. It’s faster to top and tail in Wave Lab where I also preview and check the loudness. Out of those 30 only 2 songs had long endings. The rest I trimmed only by a small amount. So generally Cakewalk does an excellent job of endings. It seems the most common cause is from editing and leaving something way down the time line. There’s always a tiny artifact like a volume node or orphaned midi note. In the case of these 2 songs they were both songs I had shortened to remove parts I didn’t want. In retrospect if I had used Ripple Editing it probably wouldn’t have happened. But there was a volume envelope exactly 8 bar down the line.
  7. OK you are just getting started so these are common issues with beginners and midi. It’s simple but complicated. I recommend watching my tutorials which will get you going a lot faster than trying on your own. Tutorial #12 and 13 have the info you are needing but you will definitely benefit from starting at #1 and going through each to give you a full understanding of how Cakewalk can be used
  8. It's not clear by what you mean by "overwrite" Does it delete the midi data from the original track? Or just play the wrong sounds.
  9. If your new to Cakewalk you will most certainly benefit from watching some tutorials. These are made to watch in order of numbering. But # 12 will answer your question.
  10. I have a Workspace for using one screen. And others for two. I was going to say try changing workspaces as that is often the cause of missing views and items.
  11. I think they removed 5.8 with the new update so if you have issues finding it let me know in a PM. I think the main difference between 5.6 and 5.8 is the WASAPI support for W10 which probably makes no difference for playback
  12. FYI, all replies on user forums are posted in the forum. That way others can learn about the software by looking for similar issues. It's not considered a good idea to post email addresses on forums either. We have a Private Message system if needed. You don't say if this is a Midi note or a Audio file. If it's a Midi note you can drag the right hand edge with the smart tool. If it is an audio note then there are probably 20 ways to do this. My first choice would be using Melodyne which has tools to manipulate note length but you would require the full version to do this with a Chord. Next depends on how long you need the note to sustain. And if this is the very end of the song where it needs to fade away naturally and it is an important part of that fade out. Things you can try: Adding reverb and automating it so it increases to sustain the note longer. I used this once to fix an abrupt ending of a song and it worked great. Copy and paste the section a few times and use automation to make it fade slowly. I could make this work, but you do need good editing skills or it could have glitches in the transitions. I let the rest toss in their ideas but those 2 would be my first attempts.
  13. I just updated mine on my DAW and my Netbook last in June to Version 5.8. I just returned to the WinAmp website and I see they have just released a new version 5.9. What's interesting is the download file now shows as being produced by Winamp and not by NullSoft It has a weird history you can read a bit here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nullsoft But it was really hard to find for a while and many of the downloaders were loaded with bloatware and whatnot. I stayed with version 5.6 and I will keep that installer just incase. Anyhow I downloaded the 5.9 version and installed it on my office computer where I always test stuff before installing on my DAW. 5.8 has been used all summer without issues and I cannot tell any difference from 5.6. I do see it has WASAPI support which will be great if I ever update to W10 on my playback system. This is the one I've used for an long time, you can see there's a contaminated version that contains garbage. I just deleted it. I used the Lite version. This is the one I'm now using from June And this is the one I just downloaded and installed on office computer to test. Take note that I had to install a Microsoft Visual CC update for it to run. Notice that Null Soft is now gone and it's now Winamp. Obviously someone new has bought it and has plans. This could be good, this could be bad. I play around with it later and see if it has changed. Doesn't really look like it. Possibly mine looks different because I use the Classic skin which you can choose during install. I'm not sure if you can re skin it later. What's weird is my DAW computer doesn't have a Menu bar like all my other versions do. I have to click in the upper left corner.
  14. The best way then to troubleshoot is the process of elimination. The first thing I would do is to use a different interface. If you have a friend or music store you can borrow from I would try that. Zoom are not very high on the list of quality Audio drivers. You might want to contact them and ask if they can help. Try a Google search of your issue to see if others have the problem. For sure this stuff is not a Cakewalk issue or nobody would be using it.
  15. Like USB mikes. The OP has not stated any clue to what gear they are actually using so we are left guessing about the issue
  16. Ya I love Roland gear. It lasts forever and generally never causes issues. I’ll admit they do at least keep old manuals and stuff available on the web site so that’s better than most. But they do have a habit of abandoning everything otherwise, like Cakewalk!
  17. This might be similar to an issue I have using a Motu M4. I’ll get distorted recordings. Not play back ever but sometimes new audio recording is distorted. It only happens when there’s been outside activity like I was using Sony Vegas or You Tube. The only way to get back audio is a total reboot of computer and interface. So next time it happens try that. One other place to look for audio issues is matching sample rates. I explain how to set this in Tutorial #1.
  18. OK, Sorry have no clue about the app. Out of curiosity I followed the instructions and it did seem to do something and like you said it said I had successfully uploaded a project. But it when I clicked on the Blue Toast that said view On Line I got a page with nothing happening other than wanting me to sign up which is odd because I do believe I am? I would suggest you keep trying. There is next to zero info abut how to do this and that info certainly got me no where.
  19. And a very good acoustic bass is found in Dim Pro if you have it. But I’ll toss in another vote for try and replace all 32 bit instruments. If I have a problem it’s mostly been due to 32 bit VST. Or Dx stuff. I even avoid the tts-1 now. I only use it for preview
  20. It depends on material but what works most times is drag and drop the audio track to the timeline. Melodyne option box will open and choose percussive . You can open the tempo map to see what results. The next step to make it musically line up with the measure is turn on Ripple Edit and drag the audio track so it’s lined up with the second measure downbeat. This way the tempo map will follow the audio. Make sure turn off ripple editing when done. I think I demonstrate this in Tutorial #23
  21. Interesting idea. Have you been using this in a live situation to test? For one thing I've have a lot of projects get all messed up because of the arranger. I wrote it off as being a buggy feature and haven't been near it since. And I was only using it as a fancy labeler to show chords and even some lyrics. I run Win Amp on a 2006 Asus Net Book. One core, 1.6 processor and 4 GB RAM. It has an SSD drive and W7. It's the size of a Tablet and I use a Tablet Mike stand holder for it. It will also run on batteries for 10 hours. It runs Sonar X3 Studio just fine and I have used WDM mode for playback when experimenting with the Cakewalk Playlist. It's deadly slow however so that was the issue with Cakewalk. My other collection of Laptops are much more powerful but all have dead batteries and are huge and heavy. I take one of them as a spare player and have used it to display lyrics using Power point and a second foot switch to control that. Now I just have my phone loaded with my tracks for a back up but that's a nightmare to use so I hope it never happens.
  22. I've used Win Amp since I guess 2004 without any issues on it's behalf. And the big reason I stayed with it is it seems the only player that allows you to set it to " Manual Playlist Advance" Someone said Foobar also works but I haven't tried it yet. I do not want to have to press STOP when a song ends. Win Amp has a huge selection of options to customize. Little things like the playlist font size. Those things make a huge difference. Example in pour lighting conditions like outside on a sunny day. Playback is controlled using keyboard shortcut grouping of the lower left row -Z-X-C-V-B Z=back, X =Play and so on. I have my Stealth foot switch programed for these. But for simple set ups it's easy to use these keys. I have them marked. But generally like to perform with my hands on my guitar at all times. ( unless there's a cold one within reach) Win Amp can have just about any type of media files mixed in your playlist. Including Midi. Of course that plays the dreaded MS wavetable synth. I just recently have started adding Video files. And my Backing tracks are a crazy mix of MP3, Wave 44.1 and 48. It doesn't care. I have spent hours researching different software for live performance and it's always missing these key features. Here is my list of what I require and Win Amp does this all except the midi data output and the 2 track limitation. 1- Stop at end of song 2-Drag and drop playlist editing on the fly at the gig. 3-Hot keys for playback control 4-Custom Font Size 5-PLay a mix of file formats including Video 6-GUI is resizable to fit anywhere on screen. 7-Midi output 8-Display lyrics ( can do this with video) 9-play 4 to 6 tracks of audio 10-Save multiple Playlists 11- Print a set list
  23. There’s always multiple ways to do the same things in Cakewalk. If you RIGHT CLICK the mouse on the record button in the transport it will open the recording setting. You might want to try Comping mode. Page 352- https://bandlab.github.io/cakewalk/docs/Cakewalk Reference Guide.pdf The other thing you sound like you might use is take lanes. Look that up too. I explain using take lanes in a few of my videos. try Tutorial #18. If your new to Cakewalk watching the whole series from the start will really speed up the learning curve for you.
  24. Are you attempting to upload a finished song to the Bandlab site? Or is this a project so you can continue working on it using the Bandlab App?
