To me,, that's more of a reason to avoid it....YMMV

Yes, I did expect there may at least one of those comments ? It's not about whether I think either of those organisations are great, they're more just as an example that it's widely used and is regularly reviewed from a cyber security perspective.

    I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't trust it ?

I use it personally and also for family, etc.

Haha.. I considered that when I first came across it, but he seems to be one of the good guys ?

It's often recommended by banks, governments, etc.

wow.. that sucks. i just checked my emails. it says i was pawned in 9 breaches. ?

Yeah that is the downside of registering for lots of freebies and deals.. I tend to use a more junk email address for small devs and then a main one for the larger more reputable companies. Still no guarantees though.. larger companies still get hacked too at times unfortunately...

    Very useful site though ?

  4. Almost all of my Air VSTi instruments are only VST2.. not sure I have a lot of faith in them actually updating to VST3 either..

They were cheap and even free for a few, so not too major if I lose them, but I wouldn't recommend that bundle price until we know for sure if they're going to update and if it will be for free.

I haven't used it yet, but the concpet is a bunch of sample textures within a plugin that should overlay on top of your track.  Therefore I'd assume it is basically looping or simply playing large WAV files for good fidelity.

That is my assumption anyway, and with 70+ presets, I can imagine that could take up some space if that is how it works.

That was my thought as well. If that is the case, then it will be interesting to see how well it handles being sped up, or slowed down.

  6. Ideally they should have made all of the Syntronik 1 sounds able to be edited in Syntronik 2 as well, so then that way people just need to install Syntronik 2 and then any instruments from Syntronik 1 that they wish to use.

It's a little clunky where Syn2 can only play the instruments from Syn1 and not edit them..

Or in this case McDSP could allow ilok computer authorization as well.

Not only that, could allow more than one instance.

While I'm not an ilok fan, companies that depend on it for "protection" have options within the ilok platform.  McDSP chose to instead limit in multiple places.

Agreed. It's weird how they all have a variety of options of what they do and don't allow. If they just made it all 3 (machine/cloud/dongle) then it allows people to pick and choose. I wonder if the coding is the same, or more involved.

I tend to boycott any Dev that only offers one seat these days.. but for free I'm a little more flexible ?

Nothing like a good freebie to have ridiculous authorization limitations.

While I have a physical ilok - once you go mobile less USB ports and lack on internet connection means this one doesn't get used.

That's a very good point Brian. iLok could solve it so easily, by simply caching the authorization for x number of days/weeks,  instead of always needing it.

Even the new authorization methods announced by Steinberg are better in that one aspect, which means iLok is really kind of lagging now for non dongle solutions.

Asking those more knowledgeable on mixing than me,  do you find this tool useful and when do you tend to use it?

I'd definitely recommend getting this one. I bought it and have no regrets. Like Fleer said, it adds some analogue warmth and I do like that it really works on a wide variety of sources. I'd happily buy it again ?

Thanks Brian, why I asked is that I've demoed Townhouse a while back and found Acustica Audio  Sand4 to be marginally better. I have seldom used G-bus compressor other than on the mix bus, where I have a hardware. ITB for mixing I prefer Iron,  Elysia Alpha comp, Shadow Hills , Chandler Zener etc... The 9000J could be an interesting option especially for the on-the-road where Acustica Sand could easily be to hefty on the processing power.

Guys, any 1st hand experiences with Sand 4 vs PA 9000J?

For what it's worth, I prefer SPL Iron and Elysia Alpha Comp more than any SSL Buss compressor I've used. Once again both of these are different to each other.

Iron I use more for buss duties and glue, Alpha I use more for mastering, as it's so versatile and great sounding. I'll often A-B Iron against some of the various SSLs from a number of Devs on a song and end up using Iron more often.

But sometimes the SSL sound just fits better. That's why it's good having a few different options ?

Personally I prefer both of these to Shadow Hills as well, even though I know the Shadow Hills are lots of people's favourite.

Is bus comp in Townhouse better than  9000J, or?

Different animals. Townhouse is like an older, coloured, grungy (in a good way!) kind of vibe. Great on drum buss, or master buss in particular.

9000J is punchy, modern, wide and nice highs. Great on the same busses and versatile enough to use on tracks as well.

If they're the same price I'd go 9000J as it's a strip, so more versatile, but if you're more interested in the compressor side only, then both are good choices, just different ?

That's a matter of personal taste...the 9000J Is the newest one

When I tested all the SSLs I preferred that one. The others weren't bad and I might pick up the E, or G at some stage, but not feeling a need yet. I've got a few SSL G style compressors etc, including Townhouse Buss Compressor from PA which does that OK too.

VST3 is available in the retail version.

My wallet and free space on my hard drive isn't grateful to you.. but I am ?

Quite a nice plugin. I really like the IKM Tapes and I'd say this holds its own with them. What I wasn't expecting from Acustica was for it to be less of a CPU hit than the IK Tapes!

Given the price wasn't far off Reelight Pro which is on sale now and I was considering, this wasn't too hard to pull the trigger on.

  15. The trial is VST2 only, but was only updated last year, whereas the full product was recently updated for Monterey.

Does anyone know if the paid/full version is VST3? It seems hard to find a conclusive answer in Aquarius or on their site... the manual says VST2, but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't updated.

Now waiting for MasterComp, PianoVerb (maybe never because it's free?, or maybe v1.10.1 is the updated version, but not switched to iLok) and TripleMeter to be updated.

Haha.. really? MasterComp is the other one I'm waiting on! Seriously underrated compressor.  I was really quite surprised when I tried that one ?

PianoVerb hasn't seen too much use from me, but if they update it I might give it another shot too.
