I've never tried Side Chain Compression - I will give it a shot - see how it goes - lol. Regarding volume envelopes, for the most part I only use them for fades on the stereo track master mix - I always thought of them as being a bit messy (track view) and a bit imprecise - just my opinion. Sometimes i found that it's a pain to get the nodes exactly where you want them.
