  1. Thanks, everybody. I thought I would put what I was dealing with and what I ended up with. I just cut and edited. It's difficult to explain this, at least for me. If you listen to Dog Blue Thyme orig that is what was there. It seems that maybe Logic has a function where the metronome follows you. So, the click is following him. As you will be able to see. he has very good timing very good feeling once he's rolling, and an interesting approach to chords -definitely unique compared to a typical 12-bar. It's just that he can't count to four. He couldn't follow my track, and he couldn't sing and play the guitar at different times. (aka multitrack). He can't follow a click -it is going, but he doesn't follow it -he had it set to follow him. Thank God for your natural gifts. He wants to release his material so badly and I plan on helping him to reach that goal. What I did have him do is go back and follow his track and give me a clean guitar track even if he has to punch just so I get all the sections. This worked well and I will keep this formula for the next many songs. I actually ended up leaving some of the idiosyncrasies to make it interesting. I was/am not happy to make a shoddy production. I want him to have his dream come true. I would still be interested in the best way to do this for the other songs -or pay somebody to do it. So far msmcleod's idea makes sense to me. John Vere, ever since the old forums, every time I see your name the word association makes me see a green tractor out in a field in Idaho. Not a bad image. dog blue thyme (the top track) is the track he sent me dog blue for drums (lower track) is my edit with a quick one take bass and wurlie (after writing out the chords and measures for the drummer and talent. Thanks, everybody. I really appreciate this dog blue orig thyme.mp3 dog blue for drums.mp3 .
  2. gosh, I've never messed around with that. ISn't the windows default lower case. Oh, is your computer in French?
  3. it works for me. My path is: c:\program files\common files\vst3\Play.vst3. Did you close restart your computer? That's what it takes for me sometimes if it is the first time to find the VST. Keep in touch. Layout -sort by manufacturer -East West.
  4. Hi Max. Don't know why you feel the need to tell me that good music is not usually lined up to a beat, but here is an explanation. Yes, it is a good song,. Yes, he is paying me well, and why do I want it to match the measures? First of all, I have to make multiple edits of the 4 tracks because he skips meaning, he doesn't let it come around to the 1 before he starts singing again -he is random -and he jumps in at the most random places. So, I have to cut and move his guitar playing and voice many times through the song, and of course, move everything forward to make space to do so. If lined up to measures, I can easily cut, paste, and move around, but if not I am doing it to his audio click which is much more tedious. Once I do this, I need to outsource drums (sends me 13 tracks) and multiple instruments so nice to have it line up to the measure (not the beat) so I can see who is off timing to the measure and cut and paste easily when grafting. All songs I produce follow the measures. I am not talking about quantizing it and making it fit the beat. And the main reason I am doing this, is because he desperately wants a professionally produced song. Pray for me. (smiles). The things we do for love.
  5. thank you for your response -and I was just about to add this but went to lunch -you caught it. Yes, all of his tracks are lined up with each other including the audio click. . Insert each time it drifts -way too much work. what does that mean "go to a beat level"?
  6. I have a client who does not understand tempo and is meter-challenged. He has only ever played by himself and has been doing it for years, and though I have tried to teach him how to count, he can't. He also can't follow a drum loop or a click. He recorded a song in Logic and the .wav in SoundForge shows 100's of tempo changes -foreign to me and SoundForge almost didn't accept it. To the point. He did seem to manage to learn to follow the click this time but it is not a steady tempo. Somehow Logic fluctuates and follows the performance? Mystery to me. I would like to get Cakewalk to follow it so it lines up with the click so I can make the many edits as they fall on the measure. Explanation -he will come in 1/4 note too early or 1/2 a bar too late, so I need to cut it all up to make it fit. This is not a problem for me, but what I would prefer is that it all falls on the beat not just with his click but in Cakewalk so that I can be sure of a steady cut. If someone were to do the work for me, I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO MAKE THE EDITS. I want you to make his audio click track, vox, and two guitars fall on the beat in Cakewalk. It doesn't have to fall on the measure as I can change all that, but it would be nice if it fell on the beat. I have looked at audiosnap, etc. but this is beyond my expertise I can pay you or trade services. I am a session keyboard player. Hopefully yours
  7. thank you. Well, no, I'm not. (handy with a soldering iron). Have many friends/colleagues who could build it but I wanted it by this weekend. Amazingly expensive.
  8. I bought a Roland FP series keyboard to use live for solo gigs nearby as I wanted something light and thin with nice touch. The sounds of course are very limited, but I use it with my Yoga VST instruments. I also take a Yamaha MODX7 to some gigs. I would like to leave the computer at home (beach gig) and trigger the sounds in the MODX from the Roland FP. Is there a way to do this? Can you use a UM-1 in reverse -usb out of FP to MODX midi? Has me scratching my head what people do. (usually when this happens I already know that all of my simple solutions won't work.) Do I need a midi usb host? (95% sure I do.) https://plasmamusic.com/usb-midi-keyboard-to-midi
  9. if you click the input button it should toggle to auto thru/off, but that shouldn't have an effect on your problem. Also it you have a split instrument track, you need to select the midi track as well as the the audio track. From what I can see though, you don't have them selected -you need to click it until you see the tracks light up, or grey out, or whatever color you are using. To avoid confusion as I have many tracks, I make folders for all, and keep the audio and midi together -one above the other. Your performances seem to be pretty far separated from your synth (audio track) -which again, is not a problem but it makes easier housekeeping when you have a lot of tracks. YOu can see in the sample below.
  10. Hi. Couldn't really think how to word this. Especially with a lead vocal, I will tweak various paramaters that I write while mixing, and the vox buss might have pan, reverb sends, delay, etc. You can see the different color lines in the timeline. Is there any way to be able to see the names of all the envelopes without toggling the pulldown clip menu or clicking on the envelope itself? I uploaded a photo but don't know how clear it is.
  11. well, maybe wise. I am not doing this a lot. And I can get the latency down to 2.2ms which is pretty great. Just liked the idea of having something tiny.
  12. Sorry, I have been trying to find this info but wondering if anyone has this unit. I am only interested in it to use VST's on the road and small gigs with my Yoga. My MODX7's interface seems to be intermittent in its love for me and goes into distortion crackle mode. My other Yamaha keyboards didn't do that. My question is simply -will this work just to play VST's live? I saw in one post that it is ASIO4ALL not ASIO. Anybody know? I found a very cheap used one here. I have a Babyface but its the old one and with the breakout its a bit of work. I would like to be truly portable. PS Edit. Just read somewhere else comes with ASIO4all drivers. Scary. Need to find the next smallest possibly. I heard Audient latency isn't the best.
  13. I used an MOX8 and an MX61 with a laptop running VST's for years with no problems, and I am having the same problem as you with my MODX. Works great, leave it for a few minutes, and play again and the sound is horribly distorted. Amazing such an expensive keyboard compared to the MX61 but the interface seems useless. That is one of the main reasons I got it. Very discouraging. I don't need an "all around interface." I just wanted to use it for live or as a portable set-up but it fails. Did you ever get it working?
  14. I got the MODX some time back as a live keyboard as I very much like the piano and rhodes sounds and its light (MODX7) and I can travel to gigs by train. I live outside Tokyo. It works fine live, but also use it as a third controller in my studio. Works fine as a controller too. Where it doesn't work correctly is a note sticks when I use it with Cakewalk, even when triggering from another controller. Any help with this? Never had this problem with my MOTIF's, KARMA, etc. I don't use it much, but when in a hurry a rompler is nice.
  15. Hi. Opened up a song and saw the common prompt that my theme may not be compatible and sent me to the theme place. From what I can see it was last updated quite some time ago. How do I find the latest, and if the latest isn't late enough what to do? Just live with the prompt and use it anyway? Thank you.
  16. It used to work during mixdown if I wanted to cancel I could hit escape and CW would ask if I want to keep the partially rendered mix yes or no. Now escape is doing nothing. Has this changed?
  17. I'm not sure to be honest. It was a fluke thing I guess. No problem since then.
  18. Never had this problem before, but of course never had this many export options before. Is there something I need to do to get the .wav to export with the track names? I will google this as I wait. Thank you. If I don't find an answer soon, I have to name them all as the deadline is this evening (it is evening here.) Watching this now. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+export+tracks+in+Cakewalk+with+track+names&rlz=1C1CHBF_enJP833JP833&oq=how+to+export+tracks+in+Cakewalk+with+track+names&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i546l2.12859j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=_yFaPYtvREsf_wAPizb7ACQ12 One thing I noticed recently is I can't find the export as raw tracks toggle. This was originally an .smf which I imported the files into (song sent to me by a client). PS Didn't help. So strange. This time it worked but they don't have .wav extensions. I'll be back. Got it. Sorry for the trouble.
  19. actually, I do the same. Since the OP didn't seem to understand the swing level adjustment, I was trying to go a step further to show that the direction to go would be the other side of 50 and above -ending up at 64 which is indeed a triplet. So, yes, simply put, leave your swing factor at 50%, and if you want a shuffle or waltz, (When a Man Loves a woman, These Arms of Mine) then just put it on 64. Then John's instructions above about fast moving parts. If you want it to sound more human, then you can move the Strength button a few increments -less percentage points. (try 95%). It will still be quantized, but a little less than perfect. But one can easily screw it up.
  20. its not a windows 10 issue. Maybe you have to reset things. Go to edit configurations and choose default settings, make sure your onboard soundcard is shut off. (I am assuming you are using an external interface.) Maybe run the audio tweaks for pro audio as windows 10 probably resorted to defaults. https://devblogs.microsoft.com/windows-music-dev/unofficial-windows-10-audio-workstation-build-and-tweak-guide-part-1/
  21. You do record your tracks with a metronome right? That should put you in the ballpark, and then using the default settings should work fine. Swing should be 50. If you want it to be a shuffle move towards 60 - 64.
  22. I have noticed this as well, that it "often happens" at this time. But it is usually if I have a pretty CPU intensive song loaded with heavy VST activity. I did take off the "autosave" and one time when I desperately needed it, it wasn't there and I lost work. I do it by minutes, not by changes. It seems to work better I assume because less calculations. I set it for 15 minutes.
  23. hi Mark. I just checked this out. Is it a bass synth only or has the 808 drums?
