  1. Thanks guys. I couldn't find a definition file but selecting "Yamaha XG" in the preferences has improved things enormously 👍
  2. Hi all, I'm at the edge of my technical knowledge on this subject to please bear with me if I appear to talk gibberish. I have a number of MIDI files that I created using my 90s vintage Yamaha PSR-SQ16. There are two instrument banks. I've attached a photo of the instruments and their corresponding numbers. Now, if I open one of my MIDI files in CbB and look at a track using "Event List" and try to assign a bank number and instrument I find two issues: 1. There is a total mis-match between the SQ16 list and the list that appears in the "Event List" dialog box (see other attachment). If I want, for example, instrument 50 from the SQ16, I have to start at the beginning of the drop-down list and manually count until I reach the 50th instrument. This works but it's irksome. 2. I've found by trial and error that I can assign the bank number by using the "Controller 32" selection option and then entering "0" if I want Bank 1, and "1" if I want Bank 2. My questions: 1. Would it be possible to have another column in the instrument drop-down list containing sequential numbers from 0 to the end? 2. For my purposes, it would be more logical for the bank numbers to match that of the SQ16. Would that cause issues for other users? I can workaround both issues but it would be great if I didn't need to 🙂 Many thanks, Keith.
  3. Ah, I'm with you. I thought I kinda did that after the solo. I'll revisit 🙂
  4. Rebuked? Not by me I hope! Not sure what you mean by "a little break down"? Always eager to learn 😁
  5. Thanks David. The steel drums are recorded from my aging Yamaha PSR-SQ16 keyboard/sequencer. There are a lot of sounds on that machine that are so much better than the ones I have available to me in CbB. Harpsichord is another good example. I'm trying to use of much of it as I can before it stops working completely (the LED displays are very dim and I think the power supply might be in the throes of dying).
  6. Now with different vocal effect. Hopefully a bit better. https://www.bandlab.com/wilbyforce/thats-the-life-for-me-dc6999e0?revId=24da4fa7-e2a2-ec11-a507-501ac512b761
  7. Thanks Nigel. I'll be on holiday in Jamaica next week so join me for a drink
  8. Thanks John. What in particular didn't you like, the choice of reverb? How would you have had it sound?
  9. When this started I was expecting to hate it but the more I listened the more intoxicating it became. I like its strangeness and non-conformity. The vocals reminded me of that National Express song by The Divine Comedy. Great job.
  10. With apologies to the English speaking people of the Caribbean whose accent I am trying to mimic, this is my attempt at a light-hearted reggae tune. Completed using CbB of course 🙂 https://www.bandlab.com/wilbyforce/thats-the-life-for-me-86e8e55f?revId=6450cc70-38a1-ec11-a507-501ac512b761
  11. Appreciate the amount of effort put into the video but I can take it or leave it TBH. What I heard, however, I can't fault in any way. You should be immensely proud, and I bet you are 🙂 👍
  12. I do hope that posting this again in a new thread doesn't contravene any etiquette rules. I really do hope I've finished this now, as I'm sure you do 🤭 This version uses my recently acquired Session Strings 2 which I think sounds a lot more natural. Hope you enjoy it. Again 🙄 https://www.bandlab.com/wilbyforce/the-best-is-yet-to-come-c5210d88?revId=7d169b76-4219-ec11-981f-a04a5e798978
  13. I would also try halving the hi-hat to eighths and putting emphasis on the leading beats. Got I'm getting nit picky now 😄
  14. It's a really nice tune and the bass sound reminds me of a Lou Reed song (Men of Good Fortune) which is no bad thing. As others have noted, guitar too loud in the mix - and don't forget that you can automate the mix with time, bringing parameters up and down as you require them to make the mix the way you want it. That's what I do anyway. Keep it up, Cakewalk is a great toy and keeps me occupied for hours at a time.
  15. Much appreciate the feedback Lynn and so glad you enjoyed it 🙂👍
  16. Same. It never did Lou Reed any harm 😄
  17. The new link includes a later vocal with harmonies. Drums are Addictive Drums 2 with everything separated out post-fader and the "room" mic turned up a bit.
  18. Hi all, hope you're all surviving this COVID nonsense. Here's my latest work in progress, hope you like it. Comments welcome as always. EDIT: link to correct recording, previous one done in error. https://www.bandlab.com/wilbyforce/humanrights21mastered-d21d59d8?revId=781bfb12-efeb-eb11-b563-501ac5b31db1
  19. I'm going to see what I can do about that now
  20. I've ummed and ah-ed about that intro for ages and still can't quite work out whether or not it's too long.

    The Garden

Bit of a faltering guide vocal on this one. Written in 1995, this is genuinely how I felt after a failed and short-lived affair, when I completely lost myself in alcohol for many months ("pissed" in the UK sense meaning "drunk"). Too self-indulgent? As always, created using CbB. Comments invited 🙂 https://www.bandlab.com/wilbyforce/thegarden21-674e402a?revId=412e39b2-03bb-eb11-a7ad-0050f280467f
  22. Thanks guys, the penny has finally dropped
