@53mph I had a Gen 1 for many years and currently have a Gen 2 - I've never had the issue you describe above.

Can't comment for the Gen 3, I'm surprised to learn there is a widespread issue but if there is, I suspect a firmware or driver fix will follow shortly as Focusrite support are excellent in my experience.

Such issues are often caused by USB power settings on the USB port in question on the host computer.

I guess you can only be guided by your own research, I wish you atb with your eventual purchase.

    Hi Andy,

I agree, it's probably the USB ports, but again, just today I'm seeing posts like this on Facebook in the cakewalk group.

  3. I'm going to be honest here as I feel it's more useful.

There are some things that work really well in this mix and others that could do with some attention.

The intro drums don't gel with the intro chords. I would either drop the intro chords (start at 0:19) or redo the drums so they follow the guitar more. Having a live drummer responding to your playing would be useful here.

Around 0:58 there's a transitional riff which reminds me off Elliot Smith 2:45am - check out the drums on that track, it might give you some inspiration. They are minimal and effective.

The change at 1:00 goes into a really nice part of the song, but it feels like the first chord is off (or the bass). Can you fix this in the mix?

I really like your lead singing in this - very solid.

Some of the backing 'oohs' sound a little off. I would take the 'oohs' at 1:20 and paste them over the 'ohhs' at 1:23 (or autotune) as there's an off note that stands out.

I hope you don't mind this review. I really liked the track overall,  especially how it shifts around.

Great playing. Very smooth. What about a vocal?  I could well imagine a smooth female vocalist on this track.

I have the same message. Says the link is not secure.

Do you have anywhere else to post the track?

  5. Great fun track. You can hear the enjoyment in the music. Love the guitars. Only crit would be that you bring in the lyric 'Jezebel' too early. I kind of feel that should be in the pay-off line, not the second line. Apart from that. Great.

I know you may not take this as a compliment, but your vocal tone reminds me a little of Daniel Johnston (who is one of my favourite artists).

  6. Gorgeous production. Absolutely top-notch.

I especially like the U2 style guitar.

Do you send your tracks out to radio? I think this would def be something that would get played on radio.

Wow! directly after your track on YouTube I got The Handsome Family, Singing Bones, and your track stood its own against it. That's some fine music.

I use one of these (although mine is the older Gen 2). Gen 3 was only released recently, I've used Focusrite gear for decades, unbeatable in my view and yes, I use this for vocal and acoustic guitar work both DI and mic.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface

    Hope it helps

Thanks @AndyB01 I was thinking of getting the Focusrite, but I've read quite a few reviews that complain of random disconnecting of the unit or changing sample rates. If it was only one person writing this I wouldn't have thought twice, but I've seen quite a few of these comments. I'm guessing you've never had a problem with that, right? These comments are for the Gen 3.

  8. Has anyone ever used Audient interfaces?

They seem to get rave reviews from users and are geared towards guitarists.

    Or Universal Audio Volt?

This seems to be getting great reviews as an alternative to Focusrite.

under $200 - Steinberg UR22MkII and not under $200 (usually) the Steinberg UR24C -- in my experience these are rock solid, well built and very clean. that said, i also use the UMC202HD and UMC1820 as my main IO units now.

@Glenn Stanton How are the Steinberg Asio drivers?

One of my beefs with the Behringer is that it didn't come with  dedicated Asio drivers and I had to hunt down a driver via a YouTuber..

  11. Hi guys,

I know this is a big ask but I was wondering if there are any singer songwriters on the board using mainly acoustic guitar (mic or DI) who would recommend a budget Audio interface.

I currently use a Behringer U-phoria but have been thinking up upgrading for a while. Any recommendations under 200? I see that Native Instruments Komplete is currently on offer but I'm not sure whether it's right for an acoustic sound.

I work on a Dell laptop if that helps

    Thanks for any help.

  12. Hi guys,

It's been nearly a year since I've posted anything here. Life has been a real bitch this year, from a disabled dog to losing members of the family, it's been a real inspiration killer, so I found myself retreating into my memories (escaping the shitshow of the real world out there). This song is the result.

It's an intimate piece. Like a voice in your head. I'm still unsure about releasing it or not.  I'd be interested to hear what people think.

What about Orb composer Pro  and Magenta Studio

    I said 'great' song ;)

By the way, if Orb Composer write songs the way they write blurb....God help us!

Today's music producers got no excuse for not making quality tracks because of bad plugin availability . All they need is skill

Don't confuse 'polished' with 'quality'. You can polish a turd all you like. It will still be a turd.

There aren't plugins that will write you a great song.....yet!

It seems that no one cares about this one, is it that bad for the price?

When I bought BFD 1 back in the 2000s, it was by far the best program out there doing what it did (making very realistic sounding studio drums). The interface was super easy to use and infinitely tweakable. I stuck with that program right up until Windows 10 or 11 stopped playing nicely with it, so I got BFD3 for 50 bucks along with 3 or 4 kits about a year ago.

I would echo what people have said here. The new interface is not so user friendly now, but if you like tweaking your sound, it gives you tons of options. The authentication issue seems to have been resolved, and there have even been some updates to BFD3 since the InMusic acquisition.

    How is the sound?

This is really subjective. Do you like your drums to sound ready to drop into a mix straight out the box? If so, you'll prefer XLN or some other manufacturer. If you want a 'natural' sounding drum set that you can tweak, mold or bend to your will, BFD3 may be for you.

I personally make 'wonky' acoustic songs, and I want a drum sound more like Elliott Smith (not perfect) - BFD can do that (in conjunction with some other programs). The drums can be made to sound 'human', which is preferable to me. But, as I said, it really depends on what you need it for.

As I remember pointing out years ago, if BandLab's authentication server ever goes offline, you can set your Windows system time and date or run a program like RunAsDate to make CbB think that your authentication hasn't run out.

    d00d, I am 3733t! I haxx!

    Have you tried this?

The blurb says that RunAsDate may not work when a program gets its date and time from an external Server. If I'm not wrong, CbB connects to the Bandlab server at startup, right?

Phew, it was difficult to find in all those long threads! It took me minimum a quarter of an hour!

Here is short the important quote, Noel said: "The only reason it's being kept active for now (CbB) is to provide users time to transition to the upcoming (paid) Sonar product."

IMHO this implies a more or less short time, even if no exact period is mentioned! But I guess it won't be years that they provide to make the transition!

    Keep reading....too much into this....

I own Sonar 8.5.3 and it doesn't require authorization every so often!

This is like saying "I have Windows XP, and It doesn't need authorization".

You're not doing yourself any favours by restricting yourself to a software that was released in 2008. You're missing out on sooooo many improvements. Too many to mention.
