  1. Gramotech have confirmed there was an error with the installer script.
  2. There is now a Melodyne update 4.2.1 that addresses Cakewalk specific and ARA issues.
  3. Well it took me a while to work it out but it appears the installer has mixed up the 32-bit and 64-bit vsts. After a bit of fiddling around with file paths in Cakewalk plugin manager it appears the 64-bit version has gone into the x86 programfiles vst folderand the 32-bit vst into the relevant programfiles vst folder. A bit of swapping around and it's all fine. I am well impressed with the plugin itself, very flexible, from the little I have tried it, seems very transparent and - dare I say it - sweet sounding. Great value.
  4. Thanks for that. Was using Firefox, downloaded via Edge and it's now installed. Only issue now is Cakewalk scans and recognises it but it's not showing up in my effects......aaaagh! I'll sleep on it. 😀
  5. Ok, liked the look of it. Analyzer downloaded and installed but the EQ won't unzip!
  6. First of all a huge thank you to msmcleod for sharing that, managed to create a Kontakt instrument and yep, it's definitely that sound. Haven't quite got anything like that on Fantom. I owe you (I suspect a few others do too....) Initially I tried creating a multisampled instrument in the Fantom but that made me realise how dated the Fantom software now is. Pretty easy in Kontakt once I got correct assignment of notes. Haven't done that before, learnt something new. Really impressive from the d-50 that the sound holds up so well now after many years. Emeraldsoul, likle your pic, will try that. Going back to play......
  7. 😄 It's the familiar 'why is it doing that?' look
  8. Interesting thread. I took advantage of the upgrade offer to move to Studio 4.2 and have encountered the percussive algorithm being selected by default. But as has been mentioned it's no big deal to then select whichever algorithm you want. Generally the ARA integration has worked so well in Cb. It was a major factor in me ditching Cubase. St----g have only just caught up with ARA.
  9. Interesting. I seem to remember (and that's giving my age away) a number of 50s and 60s songs used the pizzicato strings sometimes with guitar chop. e.g. Carol King's It Might As Well Rain Until September. But these were essentially accoustic string sounds. The D-50 sound has similar characteristics but with added bite - I'm not sure that's the word I'm looking for but you get the idea. I've come across a Roland Fantom-X patch called Memory Pluck which when mixed with a string pizzicato seems to work quite well. It's interesting Roland Cloud doesn't include a Fantom VST. Possibly because many of the Fantom sounds were a mixture from other synths? As for being a ripoff, isn't everything now derivative! 😊 Many thanks for everyone's input.
  10. I can answer my own question. Close Cakewalk, reopen it and - voila! Rename clip reappears in menu. Must have done something to cause it to disappear. But what.......
  11. Working away cheerfully at new project, right clip on clips to select rename clip menu item (wouldn't it be good if there was a shortcut for this?) and it worked fine. Did a bit more recording, now when I go into the clip menu, the rename clip item has disappeared. Have I done something to cause this?
  12. Cool. Thanks man. That's a decent attempt at it, must have something on my Fantom / Halion / Kontakt that will do the job. It's almost like a pizzicato trancey sound.
  13. ......and a few other of her tracks too. It's driving me round the twist trying to come up with an approximation of what is a really full sounding staccato pizzicato thingy which is used extensively in the track. I'm not trying to reproduce it exactly, just want something approximating to it. Tried different combinations of pizz and spic and agitato strings along with accoustic guitars, bags of reverb of course. But I'm nowhere near it. Anyone got any ideas?
  14. Cool - and slightly frightening. But you said it was too complex. However seeing it with your setup, I guess you have integrated it and are using it successfully?
  15. That's really interesting. How does that work? And could you get away without the dedicated keyboard?
  16. Or even better.......let us do it in a text editor. Cakewalk's default shortcuts do follow a certain kind of logic. But in my opinion they do not aid workflow, especially when I want to navigate around a project jumping from one bar or marker to another. I prefer to have transport functions assigned to the number keypad single keystrokes, and also all my views assigned to single keystrokes so if I hit one by mistake nothing disastrous happens. I use ctrl + for the Windows default keys, copy, paste, with a few extras. Shift + are reserved for actions and alt + are used for additional actions, e.g. audio processing and odds and ends. I prefer not to use the longer combinations, ctrl+shift etc. I wonder if this is an issue for many other users?
  17. When you open the default kbn file in a text editor it certainly appears as though nothing is there. But but but.......although no lines linking keys with assignments show up in cakewalk preferences, many of the keys are in bold and default back to e.g. B for browser view. So it appears that Cakewalk's default key bindings are part of the default kbn file and are simply hidden from view. Example. I want to assign G to show/hide bus pane (this comes from my Cubase days - G as for Group). So I do that in global bindings. But I have to do it again in Track View. And disable shift and J in track view which is the default for show/hide bus pane. Then I hit apply then ok. And I also export the key assignments to a kbn file titled Sonar Custom. When I open up Cakewalk again, G is shown as assigned to show/hide bus pane in global assignments but has defaulted back to shift + j in the track view. And when I import my custom kbn file the same thing happens. In my opinion, there needs to be an easy way to come up with a totally blank kbn file with no hidden default assignments. And the obscure way that keys can mean different things in different views just adds confusion. It needs a re-design. I think Cakewalk is now a very stable and user-friendly environment but the key bindings as they stand do not support easy workflow IMHO. As an aside, there is a distinct lack of options in key bindings when it comes to working with Melodyne regions. Another 3 or 4 key bindings would make all the difference, especially as Melodyne's own shortcuts seem disabled in ARA mode.
  18. Hmmm, well I have always had difficulty with Cakewalk's key assignments. Like you I like to create my own but there seems no way to totally get rid of Cakewalk's default assignments which keep popping up in preference to those which I have put in. And yes, I have checked my assignments are consistent across all views, e.g. global, console, track etc. To disable a default key assignment the advice is to either overwrite it with one of your own or assign the key to 'do nothing'. And yet still my own assignments keep getting hijacked. Hitting the apply button after making changes is also supposed to apply the changes to whatever project is next opened but that also doesn't seem consistent. It makes defining and managing my workflow extremely frustrating. I wonder if the whole key assignments bit of Cakewalk is due for a revamp to make it more user-friendly. Maybe we can put in a plea for this.
