  1. Nigel . . . just here to echo the many before, always such a great listen ! Masterfully mixed and arranged, gold bar standard for rock songs here on the forum . . . (hope you get to cash in that gold bar some day)

    HURRICANE

Here's a new song where I once again connected with lyricist Carroll Kiphen ( an expert in hurricanes, living in the southern USA(: Lately I've been trying to get some better bass sounds, so in this one I'm playing around with Modo Bass, a physical modeling software. I used to play bass in a band for many years, and this is the closest, and most flexible sound I've heard from a software based bass. This song uses a fretless bass . . . ya' . . . I could never actually play one of those ! Hope you enjoy . . . and let me know if the mix works . . . Regards, Bruce
  3. Interesting, with the Synth V vocals . . . sounds very old school production wise (1960's ?), with cutting edge AI audio technology. Yes, that organ would work better with guitar up strums instead. The repeated drum hit (or toms) at the end of the chorus sounds a bit distorted. Sax part sounds great, lots of lush delay. Fun stuff, thanks for posting !
  4. Another edgy and upbeat rocker Paul ! . . . enjoyed it, as always, vocals and background vocals captured very well.
  5. Such a great and excellent piece on so many levels ! Firstly, it has that time transport quotient, in that one does not realize it is almost 7 minutes long, because it is absorbing and fascinating as you listen along. It's got some fun, with serious undertones . . . your Soundcloud pic reminds me of a certain SuperTramp album cover. I also love the way you deliver the vocals in such a loose and relaxed way. Lyrics are classic, and the horn section is icing on the cake (with sparkles) Mix sounds perfect to my ears, what a great listen Tom !

    Song For Ruth

Definitely a heart song, as I really felt it as it went along . . . well contributed by everyone, an enduring and realistic love theme that many can relate to. Just a great listen folks !
  7. Great pop rock tune, vocals and melody are very well done . . . it's got good dynamics too, starts intimate, and gets big and powerful, especially like the way you've used acoustic and electric guitars to get those those dynamics . . . great to listen to on my headphones, I'll certainly try some speaker listens tomorrow, see how it translates . . .
  8. Wookiee . . . really liked the sound of this ! . . . my ear (and brain) was waiting for that powerful triumphant part to reoccur near the end, but you surprised us with something different. Some masterful synthesis recorded here, as always !

    Galaxy HD 1

Far out Bjorn ! Some great synth work, very enjoyable Sunday listen, and I also enjoyed the movie track overdubs . . . that movie was always ahead of it's time, made us think outside the box, or made us wonder if there was even a box . . .
  10. Great blast of energetic guitar ! Well played. . . mix sounds good to me, bottom's nice and round, like it should be.
  11. What a great sounding piece, lots of evolution to keep the interest . . . the vocal in this one reminiscent of a Peter Gabriel sound to my ear, just great stuff, and thoroughly enjoyed beginning to end !
  12. Hey John . . . went to listen, got a "page not found" ?
  13. Hi Mark . . . you've sure got those acoustic guitars recorded very well in this one, never hear the song before, so for me it just sounds like you ! Great vocals, and like the way the drums are balanced into the mix, just the right hint of kick, when it gets going. A thing I noticed listening along on headphones was around 3:20 there's a "HEY" which sounds kind of over compressed, and phases a bit . . . just sounds a bit electronic in an otherwise totally organic recording. Always look forward to what you're up to, never ceases to amaze.
  14. Catch 22 . . . After I replace my old dual monitors with dual 4K monitors to actually utilize the vector advantage, there won't be a lot of cash left to pay for a DAW.
  15. So, will there be any Staff View updates ? Sorry, had to ask . . . I'll get me coat . . .
  16. Hi Paul, another great creative song here ! . . . you've really got an excellent interplay with the guitar and vocals going back and forth in this one, and some interesting chord changes. Always a fan of your vocal delivery, just enjoyable to listen to, and you really lean into your electric guitar in this one. with a great tone. When you mention the timing issues, it's usually all about the drums . . . and it occurred to me if the kick drum had way more bottom, it wouldn't be as obvious in certain sections . . . audio psychoacoustic phenomenon, the ears hear the low end differently. Just my opinion that the drums should occupy the whole audio spectrum, but your drum mix seems only concentrated in the very middle. The harmonies and lead vocals reveal a lot of work went into this, and I look forward to your more polished master mix version.
  17. Hi scook . . . we always defer to your expertise, thanks for the DX correction, can you offer a solution for this most recent post here ? If he has X1 installed, shouldn't the CbB install migrate everything ?
  18. Make sure the "cronus.dll" is in the VST scan path / folder for CbB, in preferences, so it can find it.
  19. Wow Lynn ! (and Markno999) what an incredible project collaboration you've done here, loved every moment of this, headphones and speakers. Lynn, your projects here I recall as usually very guitar based, but this collaboration seems to add a different dimension to your writing skills with some sample (keyboard) textures, I'm thinking that is the Markno999 contribution ? Also, I think this is the clearest I've heard your vocals recorded, every word / lyric very clear. Much admiration for the ending / outro section where you start echoing the vocal textures. Simply brilliant overall, but FYI the hook that mostly grabbed my ear was the keyboard riff after the vocal lines "the sun finally set on my dreams" and "remember the sun on your skin" . . . so well done, and top notch pro recording.
  20. Well done John, the background bird ambience and the flutes work most effectively . . . yes, most amazing sampled flute sounds I've heard, interesting blend of technology and nature you've accomplished here !
  21. @KSband Very enjoyable, and a great recording, sax is very breathy and smooth sounding . . . nice change ups throughout ! You have the instruments very out front, I wonder if the drum kit needs a nudge . . . I hear hand percussion blending in very well, but the kit seems in the outback. Great Friday night listen for me, certainly helps take the edge off a long week, merci beaucoup from Canada !
  22. Hey Everybody . . . thanks so much for your support of this project, appreciate the great and helpful comments . . . @Paul Bush by now you know I'm an 80's fan, just like you, for me, mostly English bands back then . . . thanks for compliments on the guitar tone, never was much of a lead player, just a strum whacker @Jesse Screed thanks for having a listen, and positive comments "radio ready" . . . you got a radio station that would still play this stuff ? @jack c. I'm happy you're happy with it, appreciated @KSband thanks for the voice comment, the singing voice emerged from the need for songwriting @bjornpdx I'm such a fan of your creative projects, glad you think the orchestra worked on this one @Lynn Wilson thank you sir ! And I always look forward to the many "polished" pieces you post here @mark skinner always appreciate your creativity and support for my stuff . . . and since you asked, my guitar set up is ancient and simple. Electric guitars are always on my Gibson Epiphone, using a Korg A3 Processor . . . it's a hardware rack mount that has a 6 effect chain possibility, 1 mono dry direct out, and 2 wet stereo outs. The Epiphone has lock nuts, so I can make full use of the whammy bar, which I had great fun with in this one ! FX EQ added was Fabfilter , lows cut, mid accentuated 300hz to 2k, highs above 4k rolled off substantially. @freddy j Most appreciative of your great review of my song ! (And glad you mentioned there's a message here) @treesha Thank you for listening in, and your comments about vocals . . . when you say it sounds "professional" well, I'll let you know I learned how to do audio right here on this Cakewalk forum, over many years. @AndyB01 Thank you for "enjoying the listen" great to hear from another 80's fan ! (Thanks also for all the listens you've had over the past few years, really helps!) @whoisp I didn't use an "orchestra bus" . . . but what a great suggestion . . . I was just panning the orchestra parts in this one to get clarity above that driving bass line. Maybe you want that guitar to come in sooner, or a few introduction guitar notes, over the pizzicato . . . @DeeringAmps I always feel much better when I see your hand emojis on my cake thread ! and always glad for your listening . . . also, your comments on my Soundcloud channel, thank you so much !

    The Open Road

Great listen Bjorn . . . your musicality shines once again, it's a cool wall of sound, c/w lush guitar thickness . . . just lightly riding that whammy bar off into the horizon . . . (oops, maybe a gentler fade ending)
  24. Great stuff Freddy ! Really like your vocals on this one, lots of character there, and well written horns. You got a catchy reminiscent guitar lick in there which works very well . . . hey, the intro is about 1/3rd of the whole song . . . so, technically it's called an overture, LOL
  25. Always fascinated by the sound of a rock band playing with a symphony orchestra in the back, so I tried to do that here. By the time I added some vocals, a lot of the orchestral parts got mixed back, the rock band moves to front, so I'm still trying to get the mix right . . . let me know what you hear on this one.
