Sorry, that I disagree! But the big difference is that you can stop anytime without losing the plugins. Your open projects will work and you're still able to use the plugins in new projects!

Quite the truth.  If I had to chose between a sub and death, I'd go with PA.  They also add plugins to their sub.

BTW I used my generic voucher. Can I use it again and I do the survey ones work?

I may go for if if I can get a $25 code.

$14.99 with voucher for 5 Plugins is hard to say no to

i'm saying no since I found out Shake  Shimmer Strike was still on sale.

I have so many plugins I haven't even opened up only doe authorization.

I'm not  a fan of subs but PA's may be the best one around.  Many of us buy a plugin a month from them and that isn't much different.

I believe that you have confused Java virtual machine with the old Java browser plugin for web (which has been deprecated). Or Javascript, which has really nothing at all to do with Java, except an unfortunate name. The Java browser plugin was a lousy idea, a security risk, and it's use has mostly been eliminated. The Java browser plug-in was designed to allow the JVM to execute so-called Java applets embedded into HTML pages.

However, locally installed Java based music applications do not run in your browser. They just require a local Java virtual machine to execute them. The advantage to Java, is that it's write once, run anywhere (that has a platform supported JVM installed). As opposed to other application programs that must be compiled for each target platform.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_virtual_machine

"A Java virtual machine (JVM) is a virtual machine that enables a computer to run Java programs as well as programs written in other languages that are also compiled to Java bytecode. The JVM is detailed by a specification that formally describes what is required in a JVM implementation. Having a specification ensures interoperability of Java programs across different implementations so that program authors using the Java Development Kit (JDK) need not worry about idiosyncrasies of the underlying hardware platform."

A side note here is that native Android apps are written in Java, and is a requirement for the Android development kit. There is no reason to fear or avoid Java, except maybe you prefer not to have extra stuff installed on your computer.

    Nope

  4. There are no bargains on WUP until Waves says so.  Hopefully they will get with it like other developers that allow extra machines without going through a small hassle.  Thy still have the Diamond upgrade offer.  I've moved away from Waves since I have 3 systems.  They rarely come out with a dud. They are still one of the best developers around,

I'm a big fan of Liquid Rhythm and sincerely hope WaveDNA is able to continue developing and improving on the ideas, though losing David Beckford obviously puts that into question. Based on the news from their site, Liquid Music v1.7.0 was released in late 2019, before his death in mid-2020. I'm not sure whether the company has stated any specific plans for the future, but the software has some pretty cool and unique aspects, if you "click" with them.

For anyone interested in Liquid Rhythm, its greatest pain (for me) could turn out to be a huge advantage (again for me, or others who code a little). The software has a nice but smallish library of drum samples, with the ability to add your own. I tried that one at a time via the interface for a couple hundred (i.e., the "pain"), and it works okay, but is pretty tedious. Eventually, I discovered that these "instruments" you set up are stored in a pretty simple XML file, with the path info to the samples. I haven't tried it yet, but with a bit of creative fiddling, I suspect one could pretty easily drop in any number of samples with a list of file locations and a few lines of code to mimic the XML tags.

I happened to catch a wild Black Friday sale at BestService to get LiquidMusic for ~$35. At the time, I wondered if that was a final "unload the merchandise" sale for WaveDNA, so I'm happy to see they're still up and running, at least in some form. Unfortunately, while the sale was "can't resist" for me, I also had a few things I'd planned to bu around BF, and I haven't had much time to explore LM yet. It does work in a similar way as LR, at least superficially with the instruments and patterns, but there's definitely more to it. I'm looking forward to having a deep rabbit-hole dive into it one day soon.

The reality is taking over someone's coding is far easier said than done.

With all of these other apps these days these are probably not replacements.  Both require demonized Java.  Java on a system is as annoying as popup ads. I have Liquid Rhythm and don't use it.

How many of them do you actually have used... Oops sorry, question wrong made, should be: How many of them do you actually have used. Aaaand, it seems you already answered. Cheers 👍

    Where was my coat...

A question we all need to answer.  I'm moving away from Kontakt based synths.  How many of these sounds can be duplicated using VSTs using less disk space.  Karany stuff is nice.

Sweet indeed. One of the best synths around plus three sound banks.

The drawback is some of those presets may need the effects you have to buy to get them to fully work.

    I'm guessing YOU didn't have 427 Lego kits, a full-house building/plumbing/road infrastructure to build (and ADHD)!  😆

I wasn't an adult yet.  Eventually Reality 101 sets in, and I'm still a student.

Ya think?  Of course I do...but what difference should that make?
    Maybe I want two of them...or 12 of them....it shouldn't matter at
all how many I already own!  Excluding those who have paid money
to your company is NEVER a "winning" strategy!

I guess they think you will never legally run out of licenses.  That would be pretty hard to do unless one violates a EULA.

  10.   All of the professionals in music seem to use less gear.  I've rarely seen them switch guitars.  Usually a guitar or bass player in an amateur band like to use a performance to show every instrument they have.

I met a guy who had 13 tubas and that was after his wife made him get rid of 3 of them.

I don't play guitar much but I have 5 and 2 basses, 3 if you count the tuba. I have a clarinet I got from a pawn shop over a year ago and haven't tested it yet. I have to find my reeds.

If we only put the time in our musical abilities instead of forums or buying stuff.

I was the same - it's because they want you to create an account and use their silly installer just to run a demo. I checked out XO during the Black Friday sale but didn't bite.

You can only have 2 machines in an XLN account.  I had to use another email for a 3rd machine.  This is why I won't buy their stuff.

During  an average 24 hour day I think a lot about the gear I want to get more than I think about playing the gear I already have . It's insidious man 🤨

YES ! I want to live long ,  prosper , and be super creative and all but the truth is I feel more like an old Gray Rodent on a hamster wheel going through the motions of  trying to play catch up with an impossible acquisition  standard that is way above my current pay grade  .  Over time , It seems as if I willingly consented to letting all the opinions posted on music forums and the music gear company web sites  brainwash my gluteus maximus into feeling that I'm less than others if I can't keep up with all the online buying activities of the Smith's and the Jones's ...

How on Earth did I let this happen too me ?

    Kenny

It's not unusual in other areas.   You should see how crazy it can be for golfers.  They even market that a certain set of golf balls will improve your game.  I've even been there with fishing rods, lures, and lines.   I also think it is hereditary.  My grandpa's basement was full of John Deere collectables. People do the same thing with tools for the kitchen.

Even if we stop buying plugins our hoarding moves to a different area.  I've got a zillion presets and a back log of tutorials.  I think it is starting to sink in I will most likely die before I make good use of everything.
