I’ve stopped using FL Cloud the moment I’ve seen they’ve installed a Socket Filter on my system.

    Until next time… uninstalled!

Still using FLStudio, even upgraded it to All Plugins version, but I’m not going to install FL Cloud again, just because of that Socket Filter that can scan all my internet traffic. No thanks!

Nice of them not to force you into it

  2. This is the dislike I have about Synthmaster.  I wish the preset installation was like other synths.  Logging into your account is also annoying.  For some reason Roboform can't fill this and I have to paste the serial number.  How about using a password instead.

  3. Performances have always been the money maker.

There's a lot of hype over DAW packages about music distribution ect.  It's kind of overrated.

My brother use to be a DJ and never used a DAW or played an instrument.  He use to make $800 doing a reception or graduation. His job was taking requests.

Live performances are always valued.  That's how many famous artists got discovered.

Oasis never appealed to me. I guess I don't get the hype.

After covid I value live performances even by amateurs.

I never understood the Ticketmaster service fee which was pricey either.

I couldn't image the price if the Beatles decided to do a tour when they were all alive.  Maybe $10K a ticket?

Now they are copying Steinberg's business model. Other than 3rd party VST2 and VST3 plugins (I have over 900 of them) that have to license and use Steinberg's SDKs, I am Steinberg- (and Waves-) free. 👍

Steinberg is slowly taking over my system after the news of Finale.

In some ways Steinberg has gotten better.  They have a 3 machine limit and you can deauthorize if too many system changes.  No need to move a dongle around. It is getting harder to keep DAWs and software offline these days.

I'm don't really loath them anymore.  There's always another developer to take their place.

Absolutely. I will give NI credit for at least trying to make their ecosystem a little easier to manage / install / upgrade. As crappy as it is, it's a step in the right direction. The back compatibility issues are absolutely unacceptable though. But I have no idea what iZotope's Product Portal is supposed to be - that has to be one of the most awful pieces of software I've ever used. And I have Output's Arcade installed, so that's saying a lot.

I wish these developers would look to a companies like Spectrasonics. I opened a project from 2012 today (2012!!) and everything loaded 100% perfect with a dozen instances of Omnisphere. Never even noticed that they've kept the VST / .dll file named "Omnisphere" for over 12 years (not Omnisphere 1, Omnisphere 2), and the raw omnisphere midi sounds identical to how it sounded in my 2012 mixdowns. Considering how many features they've added in the last 12 years, that is incredible.

Not sure what NI is trying to do with their eco system as the previous version of Asshat worked.  Product Poor2'All became that when the 3 headed monster was formed.  I'm getting tied of developers with these distribution apps.  Them some of them make it a treasure hunt for direct download.  It is a necessary evil when you have a large catalog.

Small companies seem to have an advantage of less overhead by having less products.  A lot f older stuff still works on a Windows OS.  Not every company can be like Sectrasonics.

    Maybe through empirical observation?

The built-in hardware CODEC in my laptop works great for monitoring and playing virtual instruments using WASAPI Exclusive.

Realtek haven't been asleep for the past 20 years, the PC component market is driven by gamers who also want to have the clearest audio at the lowest latency possible.

Are musicians are the only computer users who care about latency and audio quality? Not even. A lot more game software is sold than DAW software, and the people buying those games won't put up with laggy, gappy, crackly, noisy audio. A lot of gaming is done with the user wearing headphones, which are even more revealing of audio flaws.

It's when someone wants to record audio that they'll find that they need an external interface with decent preamps, phantom power, etc. If they're building songs out of samples, loops, and virtual instruments, I don't know that the audio advantage of an external audio interface is going to outweigh the fact that you probably won't be able to take it with you to the coffee shop.

The external interface with its own ASIO driver is still the ante for being able to capture audio, to be sure. People who want to have the very best as far as jitter and DAC quality should still invest in an external interface. But it's not a requirement for all audio production tasks.

Never had that issue. I've never heard gamers even discuss it.

The belief is you can outspend on Pc components never needing an audio interface.

glad to see FL Studio is not considered a competitor to Bandlab ..

Image  Line does the same thing on their forum. Then again most of the users are into creating music instead of buying stuff.

I was actually introduced to FL when a small version came with my Home Studio 2000 cd.  Back then I hated the step sequencer concept.  After FL's popularity increased more DAWs added a step sequencer.

Bandlab - here is an opportunity!  Buy Finale!  Then figure out how to incorporate it in Sonar!!!

Now that notation is in Studio One they never bother with Notion.

I guess the market for scoring apps isn't as big as it use to be if that's the only thing you develop,

Two  of the most popular DAWs don't have notation.

Probably not what you want to hear, but if you're at all serious about recording/mixing, you really should use a dedicated audio interface that has a proper ASIO driver.

You'll achieve significantly lower round-trip latency... and the driver will be much more robust.

If you want the DAW to be rock-solid, this is the solution.

There is this trend among younger users who think this is a myth or people who spend a lot of money on PC components and that onboard sound is sufficient. I never understood who that came about.  I use onboard for system sounds and interface for DAWs.

Looks like $550 for upgrade from core to PRO and $275 if that's 50% off.  I took at long look at it and decided I could do more stuff with $275 than needing anything more than core.  Plus, I would need to buy more hard drive space for that library!

There's several guitar libraries from Indiginus that I need to still get.

That's the way I look at it.  I can't start growing  collection of spare drives due to buying larger ones. I bought external ones for EW and Musio.

Nice to see the Orchestra is for Kontakt.

Their last sale I bought something and today I forgot the name of it.

The only one's I'm interested are the Albions.

That is a bit of a shame that you can't use them in other DAWs. I'm beyond green with it, but can you do a rewire like thing where you can add the plugin in the other DAW and have it trigger FL and it plays back audio through that plugin ? I think I saw something about that.

I personally don't mind not being able to use them in other DAWs. Part of the fun and attraction is using a DAW for it's unique tools and restrictions.

Their  quote sounds a little ambiguous really..

That almost reads as though you might not if you have Producer as an example, but might if you had the All Plugins bundle as it's the premium one.

Unless they had an update price / charge, or they sell them separately, I'm not sure how else they would handle that. It wouldn't make much sense to say you can't have the new instruments, or plugins ever without rebuying the entire FL Studio version again.

I grabbed this one, because I had intended on picking up Producer or Signature and it really didn't cost much more than I would've been spending anyway with the voucher stacking. And I get to mess around with it now 🤣

The verb and a synth were given to Producer.

I have the Plugin Ed. that came with VSTs.   They are only vst2 and some won't work in other DAWs. They do have plans to update those but they are too busy improving  FL.

I have no issue wanting to use them in another DAW.  You can't do that with Live so with FL and Reason you use the plugin version.

If one is unsure they go to their forum and ask about whether you have to pay for something new in FL.

As @Fleer said, much of the EastWest catalog is tip-top stuff.   Personally I love the divisi in the OG Hollywood Strings and the fact that Hollywood Brass goes LOUD.  Also, Spaces II is a superb convo reverb.

I still haven't tried the singers yet but I'm looking forward to that.

And another vote for the OPUS player.

Unfortunately I would say Hollywood Solo Violin is probably the worst EW instrument I've tried by a long way (along with the solo cello) so while you've had a bad introduction there is still so much to love out there from them.

They were never good at this,
