  1. Troels mentioned in a post somewhere, and towards the end of the video that it is an SG used for the Soulful Guitar. And in the video he pointed out that it was equipped with a "Tarback" super humbucker neck pickup.
  2. Thanks! I am just trying to shadow along with Jacques' attempt to get this plugin CPU hit issue reported in a concise, factual way to IK support. The better the data, the more likely IK will be able to reproduce it on their end. I ran some of Jacques' performance tests in an effort to reproduce the data he saw. Even thought I am not having any issues here on a fairly new build, I did observe the same percentage increase in CPU hit per AT5 plugin. So just trying to help. My point is, if IK gets mixed signals about it working just fine for some users, but terrible for some others, they might assume it is just a user issue. When the working fine part may actually be related to the standalone use case vs. a multi-track, AT5 plugin per guitar track, use case. Regarding startup time, not seeing that either. Only a couple folks reported that here. I am sure there could be local system related issues driving that one, such as a slow spinning hard drive, RAM memory being paged to HDD, security software scanning, etc. The load time is only seconds for me on an SSD based PC, with maybe a couple seconds longer than in the past.
  3. The problem does not appear very often with using standalone. Most problems are with multiple instances of the per track AT5 plugin that add up quickly to an unstable load. And yes, that load limit would be system specific!
  4. I think that is great! But can you run the AT5 plugin on multiple guitar tracks in your DAW? I think that I mentioned that the standalone is a single instance, and usually runs fine on the average computer in regards to CPU usage. Someone had previously complained about load times, but that was a secondary issue. The CPU usage is what was affecting the per track AT5 plugin use.
  5. For those focusing on realism, pay close attention, and perhaps stick with Kontakt ... And see the comments below from Troels about SoundPaint Technology (posted at VI-CONTROL). He has previously made several remarks that his goal was to introduce an entirely new type of instrument from the ground up. My take is that it's not just a new sample engine or physical modeling. More like a new flavor of sample based synthesis.

    PSP Saturator

Who needs another saturator, when you can have all them IK tape machines?
  7. Well then, the pragmatic solutions are, in no particular order: (a) to fall back to your previous amp sim, (b) get a higher powered computer, or (c) work with IK support and wait for IK to (hopefully) revise ST5 to be more efficient.
  8. I agree with the rest of what you said, but the first part about running on a phone is a similar use case to running ST5 standalone on a PC. It's a single performance, so as long as the latency is fine, then it doesn't matter how much CPU use is required to pull it off. It's not competing with multiple instances of itself for finite CPU cycles.
  9. This is not going to be a popular opinion, but a reasonably current state of the art computer might be required to run the latest gen virtual instruments and effects. Sure, the new stuff is much more capable, but it also takes more computer horsepower to make it go around. I'm not saying that excuses developers from optimizing their products for efficiency, but there will be physical limits to how far that goes. The same computer that can run 100 tracks of audio, might hit the wall when asked to load up a bunch of hungry VST's. However, I think that there may be a disconnect in the problem discussions with IK. It's likely true that a single instance of AT5 might be a negligible CPU hit for a standalone performance on an average computer. But different use cases need to be acknowledged, and performance issues dealt with for those specific uses. Such as multi-track DAW recording. Users are going to expect to put a guitar amp sim on every guitar track in their DAW project. If a new version eats up 20% of the CPU per instance, rather than 5% like their old amp sim, what's the solution?
  10. Wait. Release date has been changed to 10-2x-2021.
  11. The engine is free, as well as the Steinway Piano. The guitar is a $20 add-on.
  12. This is the portal to enter your email for news. They accidentally started sending out download links and registration codes to some of those emails. And those worked for some folks... but Troels insists that they are still NOT ready. Release date has been changed to 10-2x-2021.
  13. Nope. It appears they have closed the gate.
  14. Tried that, but no dice! The downloader just keeps frowning at me, with no action after it asks me if I want to download.
  15. My piano download failed to install. Said it's corrupt & need to download again. Now the download will not start again... Oh well, the man said they are not ready. Will just need to be patient. It will be ready when it's ready!
  16. Looks like I squeaked through somehow... guinea pig, maybe? 🤪 SoundPaint installed, authorized with serial number, & downloading piano now (6.3GB @ 70Mbps).
  17. Troels just announced 10 mins ago at VI-Control that they are NOT ready yet, and to please wait... https://vi-control.net/community/threads/soundpaint-new-instrument-revealed-1975-soulful-guitar.95667/page-37
  18. Check your spam. That's where I found mine...

  20. Hey thanks! It's that doubling effect that has some folks with older PC's concerned. As in multi-tracks with the plugin could drag the PC down quickly. I'm sure it's fine in standalone with just one instance.
  21. Can you quantify "negligible" in an actual CPU percentage?
  22. I'm pretty sure that I will drop $20 for this guitar. At least as a thank you for the free host and Steinway piano. Plus the demo was very, very cool!
  23. Plus $12.99 for IK ground shipping... I priced the Dayton EMM-6 at Amazon $67.57. It's free shipping, but a few bucks more than the Mems from IK at $61 with Jammies and shipping. https://www.daytonaudio.com/product/911/emm-6-electret-measurement-microphone https://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-EMM-6-Measurement-Microphone/dp/B002KI8X40#
  24. There is a sample engine that starts with samples. From Soundpaint staff comment on the YouTube video: So it appears to be some type of algorithm that enables 127 layers. So a sampled piano can feel like an acoustic piano without any noticeable bumps in the velocity, so you can play naturally. My hunch is that is is some type of morphing/spectral re-synthesis. Troels indicated that sample sizes are comparable to Kontakt. Troels also explained that you are not limited to just the octave ranges of the physical instrument, so you can go above and below the range of the original samples, in a natural way. For example he demonstrated the "1975 Soulful Guitar" being played as a bass. Per Troels comment at VI-Control:
