  1. ha! well, the business is pretty cut throat, just like the business of getting people addicted to opioids. but i don't know if that has anything directly to do with the music business. it seems the pharmaceutical industry is the problem... that and the doctors that willingly sign on, and feign ignorance later. gotta get those cutbacks!!
  2. heheh, yea, i thought so. that's what they are.

    "Stay"

Stay i see, a bolt of lightning in the sky the energy, it covers me, i wouldn't lie i want to hold it, want to breathe it let it take me away mystery of the beating heart, holds us at sway i'm gonna pray for another day stay all the roads lead up the canyon to a higher place away from the rat's race look at my face, look at my face i'm smiling the air is thinner but the mind is clearer and all that came before has come nearer stay
  4. well, this is about doctors, lawyers, and chemists creating the opioid crisis. they are, the wild animals
  5. "The Wild Animals" https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/the-wild-animals this song became the title track, based on the strength of it as an opening number. the sequencing of the album became important after my decision to use this one as an opener, because of how intense this one is, and the 2nd song (michael's house) had to equal it in temperment. This song was probably the 5th or 6th song in order of writing... i wrote the drum track first, and immediately locked onto the main rhythm riff... it was an exercise in stripping down a more progressive riff, to it's most basic elements. again, this was an influence of direction directly from Queens of the Stone Age, which i had been listening to quite a lot at the time... i like the way they write things almost as if they are little symphonies, lots of parts, but never more than a couple at a time, like directing a choir pit full of punk rockers that have taste and timing. LOL the message in this one is simple: it's my public service announcement about the opoid crisis. the "wild animals" can be whatever you think they should be. The wild animals Just because they smile, and grease back their hair, Doesn’t mean there’s any kind of heart in there They’ll give you pellets of poison to put in your tea, They say there’s nothing phucking wrong with me Please, do not feed the wild animals Better left alone, the wild animals It’s a kick back, kick you, nothing you can really do, If you give em a chance, they’ll chase you into the Afterlife too! “lets book a trip to the riviera, sarah, bring the doctor along” “nobody will miss us back home”, When the sh!t goes wrong Please, do not feed the wild animals Better left alone, the wild animals It’s just the modern chemistry, the artistry of grabbing by the short hairs, They stay awake at night, and they count their money til the Morning light It’s a cautionary tale… that we all can relate It’s a taste of a real time devils delight At the cocktail party, or the local church family affair The poison pellets are playing truth or dare. Please, do not feed the wild animals Better left alone, the wild animals

thanks jack! plugins, hm, only channel eq and some waves plugs for delay. guitars had delay/verbs on them from the POD XT i used to do the parts with. bass was straight in. the drum track was just a little drum machine set for some cheesy straight groove...i think it was a ZOOM 123. voice is a AT4033 into a A Designs Audio MP-1 preamp, into a DBX MC-6 compressor, and into the soundcard. Mastered elsewhere...

https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/stay an introspective funk boogie written after my mum passed. recorded using sonar 6 pro
  8. the other great thing about F6, is the side chaining.
  9. yes, the F6 is a well built, more 'modern' plug by waves.... it's able to add color, OR be transparent. i'll use it as the front end on mastering sometimes, tho i try to NOT need eq on the mastering end of things. it has nice hpf and lfp abilities, but the dynamic eq is the dealio.
  10. these are great https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-headphones for alittle more, these are just that much better: https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx/reviews
  11. actually, since i posted this, i began work on a brand new drum kit, based on a gretsch kit as the body of it... the new kick has a completely different eq profile, so i've redone the low end already, maybe it's corrected this issue with thump of kick, i haven't finalized the mix on that yet.
  12. well, i have already done complimentary eq between kick and bass; kick is mostly 120hz down, and a big dip from 200 to 400, and then boosted at 2khz for beater attack; bass has dip from 120 up to 250, and is flat from there up. the dip at 450 was just mud collected from 18 drum mics and 16 music/vocal mics. i'd suggest checking it with the sub on.
  13. hi john! thank you for listening, and commenting... on my previous answer above, you can see the actual frequency response of this mix, obviously i favor deeper lows than you guys, but i think there is plenty of low end here... maybe it's not really lows you are missing, but some 2nd or 3rd harmonic content you are used to hearing? and aren't Yamaha NMS10's a motorcycle?! 😁 i know the old yamaha ns10's were notoriously bass lite...
