  2. Almost 40 years ago I bought my first acoustic piano, a baby grand made in Korea by Yeoung Chang. It was the most expensive thing I'd ever purchased short of my first home, so I had to finance it over 10 years. While I was in the piano store waiting for the contract to be drawn up, I walked around the room plinking on every piano in there. When I sat down at one of them, the hairs on my arms stood up. It was incredibly responsive and had a lightning-fast action. But it was the amazing tone that got me excited, bright and harmonically rich. I ran to the sales office and said "hold everything! I fear I'm about to make a big mistake - I have found the perfect piano!". The salesman barely looked up from the paperwork when he said "that piano's $60,000". OK then, carry on I said, crushed. This was in the mid-80's. For perspective, my aforementioned house had cost $43K. That piano was a Yamaha C7. Many years later, I'd come to acquire multiple sampled Yamahas. For a whole lot less money. It's still my favorite piano tone for rock 'n roll. Alicia's Keys is sampled from a similar model. Although itself a rarity (only a few were ever built), at its heart it's that classic Yamaha sound. When you hit a low note, it's got some real gravity to it. You just want to play the theme from Jaws. For $13, I am tempted to pick this one up despite having three or four nice Yamaha libraries already.

  3. This has been discussed/agued/b1tched about so many times over the years that it's now as relevant as arguing whether 33 or 45 RPM records have better fidelity. But... this isn't a Bandlab's issue it's a Gibson issue - please log all complaints regarding lifetime licensing on one of their forums. BTW no offense intended but it does get tiring hearing/reading the same complaints over & over. I too like many others got caught in this lifetime license scam and feel that legally Gibson should have been slapped for doing it.

  5. 13 bucks? Insta buy for me (I bought it as soon as I saw the deal, although I can't help but wonder if it will end up in the next KOMPLETE standard, which I faithfully by with each new version). I've contemplated buying this in the past, but never picked it up. At this price, it was a no-brainer.

  9. It has been a while since I have been able to participate on the Forum. A lot has been posted -- I have a lot of catching up to do. Here is a little number about a guy dealing with his best friend who is trying to "snake" his girlfriend. Gee, has anyone experienced this -- like in high school? This song is very rough since it has been a while since I have attempted a song. My wife and I have been sharing CoVid for the past few weeks. I am going to use that as an excuse for the vocals. They are a bit rough (the high notes were hard to reach and sustain). I am planning to re-do them as soon as I get my voice back but I thought that I would request some feedback in order to correct other errors as well. Overall, I was looking for a live performance in a small venue feel - so - complete perfection isn't necessary but clean-up is. Thanks in advance! 11. It segues into another song (Elric the Enchanter Part II) on the album. Thanks to everyone for the input: I have the software tools to play with the delay (tri-chorus is one, although I know the Space Echo was in use at that time) and RAT. Then play with the amp - I think speakers will make a huge difference too.

  12. Many thanks to the bakers for this 2024.02 early update! Many improvements (restore offline activation for all users) and fixes for offline users (like me), so thanks again for take care of these problems. Please in future continue to support offline users as it was before so problems like the popup screen will remain things of the past... Thanks again EDIT UPDATE: Here we go again...another problem if you are offline. Really I don't know what to think... Everytime I start CbB I don't have anymore the nag screen with coundown however I have now a new different popup screen: "Cannot Reach Internet The requested service requires an Internet connection. Please check your Internet connection, or firewall settings, and try again." I have to click "OK" everytime. Then CbB work as always and stay in activated status. To me it seems again related to something about Sign In or Refresh Activation. Please report if you have also this new popup screen after this early update.

  13. Yeah! That was easy this time. I finally got someone both comfortable enough with pc workings and with a decent hotspot connection and the job was fixed in a flash! Connected pc to hotspot Downloaded and ran the latest EA CbB activated immediately and he's back in the groove! Thanks to all for the pointers and thoughts!

  15. It's been out for over a decade so lots of us, probably! It's good. Very playable and a distinctive, tight timbre. Not one I'd pull up to practice with, but good at fitting in with other spunds imo. I wouldn't buy it at full or even half price because I think you can get a lot more for $50. But I'd def pay $13 for it!

  20. It refers to using it in the short term. Cbb will be available for some time to give users time to transition to Sonar which will be the only product supported going forward. I think we've all learned that lifetime messaging can be ambiguous right? 😉 The bigger question to me is why anyone serious about using our products want to use an old unsupported product, when a much better (and affordable) version is made available. If you want to see this product developed further, it's only fair that we ask for you to support us in turn. I don't think anyone expected that cbb would be indefinitely free forever. In the future there may be a free version (with some limitations) however.

  21. This morning I installed the 2024.02 update then decided to test it out remixing this old collab & CW project from 2002. I removed all the older plugins & loaded it up with new then remixed / mastered it this afternoon. A bit lo-fi this collab was done with mp3's & 16b files.. All went smoothly, CbB worked well w/o any issues. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of Cakewalk. --> Listen Here

  24. Ok so do not watch if you have important things to do today as this video will dumb you down. However, if your biggest plan is to enjoy a good coffee and have a laugh or two then I am happy to share this fun project we are developing. We are bringing a little live theater back to music. It does end with a pretty tasty tune.

  29. During the second Amazon Prime Day this year I grabbed the Revelator Condenser microphone (the dynamic was not on sale then) to test out the USB mics for myself. I have spent a lot of time miniaturizing electronics in my career, so wanted to look at these for what they are. That microphone impressed me so much that I wanted to also test the Revelator Dynamic when it went on sale. I have been working with someone doing narration work in a non-optimal environment on a budget condenser mic, and although that has been made significantly better, a dynamic microphone would be better suited. Both microphones went back on sale for Black Friday at Amazon ($59.99 for the Condenser, $99.99 for the Dynamic), so I grabbed the Revelator Dynamic so I could make an evaluation of them both during the same sitting. For her situation, there is also a sibilant issue, and the thing that attracted me to these more was the FAT Channel (pre-FX chain) that is included. Some features of these mics specifically that impressed me: They are both 6-in/6-out audio interfaces, although the only hardware input comes from the microphone itself. These serve as available ASIO stereo pairs to applications, so loopback usage is a breeze (the software has a mixer to control each of the three output mixes). It also negates the need to buy an audio interface, so anyone only doing vocals could get by on just the mic. They have dedicated ASIO drivers which were updated last month after I bought the condenser and actually addressed one of the bugs I found. They have dedicated OBS drivers, although I have not used OBS yet. The FAT Channel (pre-FX chain) are the same FX in Studio One, so the signal can be processed prior to being written to disk and minimize post-production work. Each comes with either Studio One Artist (permanent) or a discount on Studio One+ (subscription). At the time I got the condenser, that also came with Ableton Live 11 Lite, but the dynamic I just got did not. They are Dolby Atmos hardware, but only work for binaural mixes via the 1/8" headphone jack. What I found lack-luster, or truly abysmal: They both include a desk stand, and neither is usable. The dynamic needs a stand off of about 2" so you would need to hunch over a desk to use it properly, and the stand for the condenser is a rigid "rock." HORRIBLE decision for any condenser!!! Both are better used on a mic stand with boom, and the condenser version MUST be shock mounted. Both mics are 53mm in diameter, and there is a shock mount with clip on Amazon that is suitable, but due to the buttons on the mic itself, you cannot clip either in the center. The USB cable with the condenser was 1m, the dynamic was 2m (both are too short for my use). Since I run the cable around behind my desk, I just used a 3m USB cable I already had (USB-C to USB-A) and they work without issues. Overall, both microphones are usable (again, the condenser must have a real shock mount), but the condenser has a higher noise floor and 120Hz hum from the transformer. Although the Expander/Gate can deal with this, there is a delicate balance between input gain (in the software) and the gate threshold. The dynamic version is far more forgiving. The design of the Revelator Dynamic is very similar to the Shure SM7B, but the Revelator has the pre-amp inside it, so has a noticeable noise floor (but easily addressed with the expander/gate). I have not gotten to stress test these yet beyond video work, but will do so in the future. I just wanted to mention these quick because they went on sale for the holidays and might be of use to some.

  30. Still, for whatever reason(s), they do sell a lot of them. It looks like PreSonus have put together a good package for people who want a USB mic. ASIO driver, OBS driver (nice), etc. Based on this review, if I couldn't talk someone into a dedicated interface with separate mic, this would be the package to recommend.

  32. Try adding a Tri-Stereo Chorus to moderate gain tone. The Dynatronics Tri Stereo chorus was used extensively in the 80's, I think Eventide had one too. But there are many other options these days in pedals and software plugins that fit the bill. Sounds good clean or distorted, and on lead tone.

  43. @Noel Borthwick Thanks for the update and the clarification of the future of CbB. I’ve been trying to tell people exactly this but for some reason people seem to take it as a slap in the face as opposed to being the good news that it is. And I guess some are worrying about cost. I posted the pricing from the old Sonar compare versions page to demonstrate a possible pricing for the new Sonar. This includes Home Studio for $49. I got no reaction. It’s really just a few people who are negative about the company. And thanks for taking the time to fix the minor issues with activation and the splash screen as it was making the forum a very negative environment. You might be loosing a few impatient users due to Sonar taking longer to release than was originally expected. I think the majority of us would rather you take your time and get it right. We still have CbB and if this takes 6 more months then why would it matter. CbB is absolutely the best DAW for all us long time users and I personally couldn’t ever go backwards. The longer it takes the more time people have to save up. If you had put a dollar a day aside since last June you would now have $245 towards Sonar saved up.
