I am currently resurecting old original tracks from early 90s. I had the Cakewalk .wrk files on zip discs. Most of them used SOUNDFONTS and for the most part all of them are on the ZIP Discs also. I am using this FREE SF player in CW and works a treat. SFs can be dragged / dropped to the I/F https://www.kvraudio.com/product/bassmidi-vsti-by-falcosoft Whats refreshing about it is the quality of the SFs is very good AND I can do something that I cannot do resource wise with Kontakt. Load that SF vst on 14 tracks so far w/o causing any pressure on my system. Very very light on resources

Nostalgia on Humble Bundle .. Remember MYST
aidan o driscoll replied to aidan o driscoll's topic in Deals
Ouch @abacab .. would they have been that big back in the 90s .. I was expecting MBs -
Back in the day VIENNA was the soundfont editor to create new SFs etc. Interestingly there is a new editor here to create your own SFs. https://www.polyphone-soundfonts.com ITS FREE and its open source ( via the license page https://www.polyphone-soundfonts.com/license ). Available for ALL platforms - 64 bit I reckon it is this .. Free to create YOUR OWN soundfonts and not edit licensed ones. Similar to you can legally have a radio that tunes into cops but its illegal to listen

Nostalgia on Humble Bundle .. Remember MYST
aidan o driscoll replied to aidan o driscoll's topic in Deals
One good thing I would imagine, about these MYST games from back the is the footprint on your HD should be relatively very small? -
I kept all my old soundfonts from back in the day. Had creative Labs and EMU soundcards. Could use a utility called Vienna to make own soundfonts. I have them all on a ZIP DISK, remember them. I also kept a USB Zip drive which works perfectly to this day along with about 30 zip disks of various audio stuff from back then inc old CW .wrk project files

Interestingly latest FL STUDIO update ( ver 20.9.0.2748 ) replaces the old Fruity SoundFont Player with the new 64 bit and macOS compatible SoundFont Player plugin .. simply called SoundFont Player https://www.image-line.com/fl-studio-learning/fl-studio-online-manual/html/plugins/SoundFont Player.htm Keep in mind FL Studio plugin allows FL to be used inside other DAWS like CW

@abacab Hurling .. probably the fastest field sport. All players amateur, but wow, what skills. Lots of people initially see it and say it looks dangerous ( due to hurlies and players knocking into each other ) BUT it isnt, it just looks that way, injuries etc very low ... players do not get violent with the hurly ever. Fantastic game to watch .. its constant end to end stuff. See 3 mins or so below Biggest days are in September when you have the All Ireland finals in the premier stadium In Dublin called Croke Pairc. Holds about 82,000 .. packed to the rafters
-
Sort of that way in Gaelic football / hurling too. In hurling the small ball called a sliotar ( "slitter" ) is hit from outfield from all angles to score a point over crossbar tween uprights or above. But doesnt always happen however more often than not succeeds. When it doesnt succeed its a punt also .. same in gaelic football which uses a ball similar size to soccer ball
-
Yes, here in Ireland it would be similar in that PUNT & kicking Ball in Gaelic Football. Taking a chance kick from outfield to score a POINT over the cross bar ( below crossbar is a defended by keeper goal. Score a goal is worth 3 points ). Gaelic football and hurling goals look like a combined soccer and rugby goal/posts in one BUT BUT, I will give you all a lesson in Irish. Pre the EURO our currency was the Irish pound IR£ ... In Irish POUND is PUNT ( with whats called a FADA over he U - Púnt ). The Irish Pound - punt Éireannach ( "air-an-knock" ) So now
-
No but the sample sounds sound good. For that price ESP for ultimate you are getting alot .. worth a punt Id say .. same price as 2 pints of Guinness in Ireland

Adjusted my post accordingly - "big one for us is ITS FREE FOR A DECENT PERIOD - 60 days evaluation". My main point was when working with a group of people .. cost will always be a factor to get people to buy into something usage wise .. initially and longer term. The least number of barriers to get people onside the better in a group. This of course is where Cakewalk comes into its own, but its PC based and not on MAC .. which is in my case for the band with mac users and pc users the reason I use reaper for band purposes. Outside of that I use Cakewalk as always
-
@jackson white As well as Reapers cross platform / customizable / compact advantages another big one for us is ITS FREE FOR A DECENT PERIOD - 60 days evaluation. That can a biggy when getting people to buy in. They can try it without costing them bar a bit of time. So when you are working with a group a big barrier is cost .. Reaper doesnt have that issue. And then even with the purchase price after 60 days its only $60. You can use it for 60 days evaluation with only a small temp nag screen popping up for a short period at load. After that its $60 to buy if one makes use of it which is not a deal breaker
-
@jackson white To start you off on common plugs cross platform we have started using the FREE Steve Slate Drums. Not bad at all, similar to XLN in a way. https://stevenslatedrums.com/ssd5/#SSD5FREE This is good for a drummer to noodle with for ideas before actually doing the lines on a kit proper. Another thing we did was the drummer initially recording "loops" with correct bpm/time sig which allows us to use these ideas as loops initially while building out a track

We are using REAPER default vanilla whichever you want to call it .. no extensions or customizations needed. If I could I would use CW all around but not possible as its PC only. So Reaper just as another tool makes it easier to work with Mac people without getting into exporting wavs back and forth and having to change the originating midi track and resend etc. As is reaper, the reaper project file is cross platform AS IS. Obviously if using plugins try stick with the ones that come with reaper so all singing from same hymn sheet while developing a track. Otherwise before sending the project file make stems out of the tracks with plugins other dont have ( right click track .. Render/Freeze tracks .. Render tracks to stereo stem tracks ) ( I use CW & azslow3s reaper util dll which allows CW projects to be opened in reaper, but thats again optional. ) Are you maybe over thinking this with regard to others finding challenges that are not there? You only need to use as much of reaper as ye need. If members are reasonably proficient with other DAWs I dont think they would find it very difficult. Take Lanes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Hrr5QrjgqM Ripple Editing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFSJEt3VOic Comping - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zyld5BicWQ BTW .. not trying to convert you from CW to Reaper. Just use it as a another tool while working with your MAC people to make things a bit easier I think anyway .. or at least until Bandlab bring out Cakewalk MAC
