original Its About Time.... (an original solo vocal)
Jesse Screed replied to ramscapri's topic in Songs
Nice expression, I find it to be very unique, and that I like. I would maybe pull a bit of reverb off the vocals. I really like the lyrics and would be interested to know what inspired them. The message about sharing and living in the moment as well as what the meaning of life is not lost on me. -
nice free form, you are always presenting interesting music, and I don't care about the sloppy. I do believe it would be better if you told the drummer to sit this one out?
-
Nice tight, clean clear presentation. Love the guitar work. Did you play all the instruments? I believe the vocals could be turned up just a bit. I listened to rain also. You are very talented at what you do. super duper

Hello Bjorn, I am hearing some crackling in the mix, but it could be my playback engine. I love the visuals and as always your music is meditative and relaxing. This is something I needed to hear this morning.

Welcome to the forum Reon. I admire your mining of past posts. You went back nearly a year. This one only exists somewhere on my hard drive.

want some lightweight on-ears. If you get the impression I'm a headphone 'ho, that's....not inaccurate. All the way back to many hours spent with The Moody Blues in my teens. P.S. If I'm ever called upon to come up with a brand name for a line of cymbals, "Status" is my first choice. I bought these on the first sale. I needed another set to leave at a different location so as not to have to haul so much stuff around. I think I paid $29.00 for them. Maybe less, I don't remember for sure and I'm to lazy to care. My opinion of them has not changed from the original thread. I have copied and pasted below. I received my package this morning. The price is definitely right. I need another pair for an alternate studio. I have a V.1 AKG 271 set as my go to cans for studio 1. To compare them is futile. The differences between the two are glaring. They are not without merit though. Be forewarned that you will need to audition reference material to assess the sonic realm. I am happy to have them, but they are as different form the AKG 271 as waffles are to pancakes. (the box they ship in is worth $5 or more, if you like to reuse to present gifts in a fashionable manner.) I do not use "referencing software", just my ears. They can be good, if you know what they are presenting. So there's that.

Shane, check out Let it Be Naked if you have some free time. I find it to be very good. But like gswitz said, it is another version, but without the wall of sound. You can find all kinds of conflicting opinions from the Beatles themselves about the Specter Let it Be. Naked is "just" what it sounded like, in the room, at the time, of the recording. Now the beatles are an industry unto themselves, and "they" love to generate content to distribute for various reasons, one being profit. On Naked though, I do believe they demonstrated that they were one damn fine band.

I have the mono masters box that was released a while back for everything up to Magical Mystery Tour. I find them to be real good. I can't comment on the ones you have, but I would guess they are different, they are remasters. Isn't this what usually happens when they remaster stuff. Just ask Bit what he thinks about All Thing Must Pass remaster. The same thing happened when Coke changer their recipe, Macdonalds fries stopped using beef tallow, and they started adding ethanol to gasoline. Your conclusions are valid.

Alignment of the Planets, new prog rock instrumental
Jesse Screed replied to MichaelJohn's topic in Songs
very nice! excellent composition. Now, find some real "attractive" people to form a band. Then find some investors, and go on tour. If you didn't mind, change the name to Mothers Day, and go on to make a PBS special that would air every year. It's really that good. -
Love it. Something about babies makes me happy. In my back yard, there is a brood that just learned to fly. They haven't learned to feed themselves. The parents lead them to the feeder, and demonstrate how to eat from the trough, but the young ones stand there with their moths open waiting for a deposit. The parents just fly away, the babies sit there bewildered. The young ones also don't have the fear of humans yet, when I get close they just look at me like "what the hell is that>" before they realize maybe they should bolt. I never learned how to play this song. I certainly do like the reversed guitar, as well as the video and the rest of the track.

Nothing comes to my mind T. I think the melody of the vocals will tell more when you add those. Other than that I do like it, and especially the sound of the guitar. undaunted forge ahead.

Reference Mix Suggestions please! :)
Jesse Screed replied to Bad Mac's topic in Production Techniques
It's all predicated on what you are searching for. Or maybe not searching for, but what oyu are imagining at the moment. At this instant, I don't think you could go wrong with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naIG0tdXlGw a complete cluster of what is wrong and what is right about this and that some real cool stuff it you take the time to care mostly I love raw -
https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=14256058 this just another jam, the drummer was drunk. I made the base player play base, and she did ok. we still finding our foots

John, there was so much about this I embraced. Though this is "poppy" I think it is actually more "adult contemporary." Like all your creations it is from the heart. Pop songs are not this long. With that said, there is nothing wrong with pushing the envelope. Like I would know? When you stretch out at 4:)00 that was experimental. never pack to many chops in a small cooler.
-
I don't believe so, because you are already everywhere at the same time now, don't underestimate yourself. Nice mix on this one, very pleasant.
-
David, I agree with almost everything everyone said. As far as around 0:13- those few grace notes (right side, a harp vi?) & the piano chord at 0:29, that's just David.

Get one of these. I doesn't look like you have a fretless. Warwick Jack Bruce Signature Thumb NT Fretless bass

Well, first off, I probably shouldn't have expressed an opinion. You said you wanted expert opinions and I AM NO EXPERT. I did not load this into a daw and fire up the meters or the wave profile, so I don't know what it looks likes. I could have given a more informed opinion if I had, and I apologize for not doing that. I just went by my ears, and my laptop speakers. I can say that it did not transfer over well to my laptop speakers. For me, the one way I can tell a good mix and master is how it sounds at various volume levels. If it sounds good at low volume, and I turn it up incrementally, and it still sound good, and not harsh, or fatiguing, then to me it is a good mix and master. That's just my non expert method of deciding. This song had me pulling the volume down immediately. The concept, the arrangement, and the musicianship are very good. So yes, I was probably confused. If you ask anyone on this forum they will tell you that I am often easily confused.

still waiting, sez the keepers of the rune, on the dark side of the globe.

Hey, this is hotter than the surface of the sun. I dig the concept, 1:20 is nice, and yes it stays good, kind of zeppy/yessey For me, back off in other words if you like it that is all that matters

jack, I shared this with her, and she said she would like you to get faster ears. but honestly this one is very close to the can. not sure if it goes past this you're the best jack c.

I don't have a lava lamp, so I contemplated the blades going round on the ceiling fan, on low, with just the glow of my computer monitor to laminate them. This is easily as good as anything I have ever heard on "Hearts of Space," You should submit it to that guy. Killer choice of sounds. I love the name too I have a cool thought, what kind of amazing stuff could you do if you made a collaboration with furry paws Wookiee
-
I totally agree, or at the least some volume automation, but I was so happy to have a base on there, that I just let it take center stage hard She will be so very very happy to hear that Nigel. When we jam we never know what is going to happen.

https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=14252743 I would be interested to know if this mix is there But yes, she finally decided to play base

Kevin, I am deaf in my right ear, from infections and accident trauma, so I try to keep it low. Plus I don't use headphones so the only way I can hear the drums through my monitors is to keep the amp volume low. I do fold a paper towel up on the backside of the At 4033 to prevent some bleed. The room is so small that if I cranked the amp it would just sound like noise, and I wouldn't be able to hear the drums. The pull pot master volume is engaged, so that adds a little drive. Most people try to mod this amp, but Dean Torres said don't do it, he said maybe check the caps. It's a ball buster in weight, and will peel the chrome off a 56 Packard Caribbean bumper when it is at about 3/4 volume. I would be surprised if the overall volume I play at is no more than 80 db c weighted. I used to use a db meter, but I have learned where the sweet spot for me is, but I should pull it out again just to make sure i am not getting volume creep.
