Getting Old Having some tools unavailable in some views.... All should mean all!
In This situation, Changing MIDI Input Echo Enable while editing MIDI in PRV get old very fast back and forth between TV and PRV to continually switch this selection.... Elsewhere too!

I imagine this is already well documented and requested.
The display scrolling method dates back.... way back!
With all the attention to the new menus (still in dev) is going on, maybe there’s hope for this too?

Hi Gang...
Just thought I'd note that learning is a great thing. I seriously didn't think I was going to need so many things in the process of adding SupD3 to my pallete.
But I am learning. Here again I get confounded expecting "perfect samples" and kits simply assemblies of such, but instead, it's a toolbox to handle the myriad of issues typically faced with recording drums and virtual drum use. If I was used to simply using it as a stereo output/instrument, I might not likely have needed to lean all this so fast, but I am what I am....
That said, the lack of perfected drums having been recorded/sampled, stripping a kit of all adjustments leaves a ton of work (it seems) just to get the chosen drum kit to my expected result. There are many reasons/uses for either system. I'm not debating that.
Good find though. Now that I have my kit more specifically built. I found I can enable SupD3's MIDI input mapping so that it re-maps any AD2 input (recorded or live) and triggers the appropriate SupD3 equivalent. Not sure yet how it handles the loads of additionally available sounds in the kit, but it made it easy for me to sway SupD3 for Previously written AD2 simply loading the correct map! Wonderful!

Drumps maps for SPD3 and EZX libraries have to exist out in the studiosphere. It's a matter of getting people to share and collect them together in one place.
Some, yes. And if you follow the links provided you will find some as well as a free util to create a drum map from an ins file which is a simple, text file. Easy to create if you put in the time. ...just sayin'
I followed the links and found the SupD3 ins file which was enough to satisfy my immediate need as well as the ins2map util should I wish to create the map.

I remember Cakewalk offered us an excellent drum map for XLN AD Drums.
Would be very nice if Cakewalk offer us a drum map for Superior drummer 3.
Yeah, but honestly?
It was back in the day when AD2 was bundled with a paid version of Sonar, yes?
...also, in all fairness. AD2 drum maps are far less complex than SupD3 (gotta stop me referring to it as SD3 for I've been using SD3 for Session Drummer 3 far longer).
...but from what I see of the basic map, SupD3's mapping and included derivatives (assortments of variations of strike etc.) are much more extensive and thus resulting in issues between apps with fewer mapped sounds/instrument.
Hard to satisfy all in a single mapping. But this does raise the bar on more tedious mapping.

No. No trashing. First save your project, then use ctrl-a to select all clips followed by delete.
Then do a save-as template (make sure it goes in correct folder) and either close the project without saving r go to new/different project.
End result is first you have a saved copy of your project intact
and
a template exactly how your project is.

Where’s a good casserole when you need one?

Here attached are some drum maps I have for Toontrack EZDrummer kits.
Thanks James...
I'll check these out too!

Thanks again scook!
Didn't think to go that route.
Oops. I forgot. I was really looking for any info that might explain why the selected the default map they have is what it is. I do know I can remap, but I’m looking to see if there’s some benefit/reason to their default choices.
-
Yeah... Feeling overwhelmed with their mapping.
I appears to have related sounds scattered in numerous places.
So I’m wondering if I’m missing some clue as to why instead of aoganized?

Fixed.
Session Drummer uses an sfz engine like Dimension Pro, Rapture and Studio Instruments.
Dropping samples onto the pads plays just one sample but a pad can play multiple samples when loaded with an sfz file.
Thanks scook!

Just to add, I totally agree about AD mixer interface and how it's limiting. I too have yet to find a Kick or Snare that sounds like what I'm used to in a real kit. I too bought additional kit pieces only to never use them. I do use it in 90% of my tracks and just fudge it into something "OK" For my backing tracks it's perfect as it's simple to use and with the same pre set on all the songs it keeps the live mix in line.
I also use Session Drummer which I can plunk my own samples into. I sampled my little drum kit and it's freaky to have SD play my kit. It's very real sounding. I have about 20 snare shots using different sticks and velocity. Too bad I can't layer those but I use the Pad thing for those.
But it is an option for you as well. I'm sure your neighbor's won't notice random whacks, bashes and crashes in the middle of the day as you sample your kit.
Hi John...
You can layer the sounds, but it's not for the faint of heart. My senior memory is forgetting the acronym/name (sfz), but that's where the layering must be created/defined via text editing!

A quick 3-4 minute video tour of how to implement a drum map from scratch in Cakewalk (video is already cued at 5:35 for this drum map topic).
This example uses AD2, but I assume you could follow this to implement one for any drum kit you are using
Thanks abacab..
scook nailed it for me with the ins file. I remember (barely) how to add instrument files so it's up and running fine.

Just what the doctored ordered. You've saved me a ton of struggle once again. Many thanks!

This part is always a pain... Has been since pre-digital audio. (midi sequencing)
Though Drum Maps are very powerful, I don't really need them often in my work, but the mapping of the kit pieces replacing the keyboard while editing drums in PRV is a big issue for me. Since we received AD2 from Sonar days, I already long ago added it's ins file and the note names are available in PRV (which now sticks. Thanks!), But I don't remember where I might find such a file for Superior Drummer 3?
I guess I could dig in and attempt to manually create one, but that's a task I'd rather not tackle at the moment, so I ask.... no I beg...
Has anyone found or created any ins files for Superior Drummer 3?
-
Sheesh! It's been so long since I dealt with this type of issue. ?
Just as I have a basic note layout for AD2 Drums available there.... But I don't know how I did that?
Anyone out there with some pointers or explanations would be greatly appreciated as it appears their' stuff is mapped all over the place compared to what I'm used to.
Many thanks...

So many reasons...
I was just thinking about a trend that seems so common lately.
Looking at the sale of top notch softwares from one owner to the next in a spiral of survival it seems.
The incident immediately evoking this post was seeing the sales path of fxpansion as a company.
I've been using their' products since the beginning and long dreaming of acquiring BFD3... Now I see that they are on their second sale (that I know of) and it’s making me sad.
<jokingly> It must be me? So many things in spiral.
.........now back to Star Wars always in progress!

Should've kept looking. There's apparently another one for only $15. Conspicuous lack of deets, sellers seem to be from all over, but perhaps TT allows users to resell their license?
I doubt they would. It seems no one does.
No registration or authorization at all on this one. Not even mentions or traces of such found. I wasn’t trying to do anything but find a good deal and took a chance. It’s not a bad software, but it still leaves me wanting. Some good pieces, but less than thrilled with toms.
Hoping BFD survives and eventually finds it's way here. I’ve got a feeling it might suit me better, For now? We'll see.

I just discovered that I can make SD3's interface more what I prefer....
I just learned how to separate my cymbals so that they can appear in CbB on Separate faders! No need for a work around...
A bit of learning and thinking found the way. A Bit painstaking and of course I will/would need to rebuild each kit this way eventually.... Yikes!
This program makes panning cymbals a lot more difficult to figure out. Even AD2 has a simple pan widget for same. In SD3 each cymbal needs to have a separate mic channel created to allow this... But it's there!
Building it now! ?

@Keni, I hear ya, but,
isn't always an option and especially so for drums. I got into BFD when demos started having to sound like polished masters.
Not quite sure what you meant by this, as anything you buy is always at the discretion of some recording engineer (drums/tuning/mics/mic placement/preamps/room) unless you record it yourself. The choices BFD made were a great fit for what I was looking for with a good range of expansions (ya can never have enough snares) including samples from quality 3rd party vendors that dropped right in.
TT SD was interesting with kits by Al Schmitt and Chuck Ainley but I wasn't finding what I was used to with BFD in the little time I had to check it out. I could be missing something .
Hopefully your find on SD3 isn't a case of "too good to be true". Feel free to share you thoughts on it once you get some time with it.
Ha... So far all is well. Installed and working as I learn my way around.
My point is this. As an engineer I know the ease and joy of recording a kit that sounds great.
I also know many techniques and methods to bring less than optimum drums up to that benchmark.
Some engineers did a wonderful job doing that but when I strip them down to the actual drum, it is... less than optimum.
Of course, we all have opinions on what is good, optimal or otherwise.
I stripped down and built a simple basic kit with my own methods. Far less encumbered and sounds as good or better than any with all the processing. They used kick inside, outside, and sub to achieve their desire, I got just as much only using the inside mic... and I turn off all the bleeds! I’ve spent too much of my life dealing with the problems of bleed to willingly add it! ?
I do understand it’s value right time and place.
Meanwhile, learning my way around and finding how to get what I want from it. Monster program for sure!
I'm still keeping an eye out for BFD as it's UI is much more to my liking

Keni, I have used AD1 & 2, as well as SD2 & 3, and after 12 years of using VSTs for drums I prefer SD3. The big difference to me is the fact that the on-board mixer in SD3 can apply f/x to individual tracks as well as the entire kit, whereas AD2 f/x can only be applied globally to the whole kit. I always start with bare tracks and apply f/x only as needed to individual tracks or the whole kit. With AD2, I have to use multiple instances of it to process individual drums where each instance uses only one drum, thus, I sometimes have to use 4-6 separate tracks to get the sound I want. Because SD3 has a complete mixer, I only need one instance of it to get my sound. The f/x are very good, with lots of presets for all drums. Over time, I have created a few defaults kits that I use as a starting point and go from there. A big benefit is that the drum samples sound quite good with nothing on them. That's all I can offer, but I hope it helps.
Thanks for the input Lynn..
I do like SD3 better than AD2, but you’re mistaken. AD2 has plenty of fx available for individual pieces. I turn all that off anyway as I typically prefer to choose my own devices and use discrete outputs so that I have individual faders for each piece in CbB.
I did this in Session Drummer3, Ad2, SSD5, MTPowerdrum, and now SD3

All very true. Many things are possible. I’m sorry if I unintentionally did something wrong.
I bought thru legitimate sites in faith that all is legal.

The top level domain checks out as clean with a number of URL scanners.
But that still does not guarantee that the actual seller has any scruples...
One example of URL scan: https://www.wmtips.com/tools/info/www.bestdeals.today
