  1. That's not to say that it can't or won't be improved upon in the future, of course. And "inferiority" might have been too strong a word for a nuanced discussion, but it's clearly not "simply better".
  2. For a long time, I kind of refused to realize the inferiority of the VST3 standard... but U-he made me change my mind: https://u-he.com/support/faq.html#troubleshooting:vst3-issues
  3. Awesome! (I can't believe you work that fast!) I believe Morten had it listed under "Misc" actually: ?
  4. @msmcleod Fantastic news, thanks for all your hard work! While you're adding new keyboard shortcut targets, could you maybe add Archive Track as well? I don't mean to sound ungrateful though!
  5. Hi all! Am I missing something or is it currently not possible to assign a keyboard shortcut for "Rename clip"? It would enhance workflow a lot if it was possible... And is it just me, or is the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog in Preferences veeeery slow and jerky? It would be awesome if it could get some code optimization love. ?❤️
  6. Thanks a lot for your nice response, azslow! I haven't dared to go down the ACT rabbit hole yet, but thanks a lot for the instructions. ??️? About NKS: I kind of assumed the plugin had to be NKS-compatible for it to work, but I will give it a try and get back!
  7. Hi guys! I would like to control VST plugin parameters using external hardware knobs, but how do I do that? The parameters are exposed as VST parameters, not MIDI CC:s (so the plugin does not have MIDI learn). I use MIDI CC:s all the time but this one has me stumped... ? I tried msmcleod's tip of putting a plugin in the Pro Channel, and the Pro Channel knobs have "Learn knob" but I can't get those PC knobs to react using my hardware (Komplete Kontrol S49)... Any ideas? Thanks! Edit: I can map knobs on normal Pro Channel modules by right clicking on them and selecting "Remote Control". There I can easily connect, say MIDI CC 21 from my hardware to that specific knob. But the knobs in an FX Chain don't have the "Remote Control" option in the right click menu... ? Edit 2: The "Learn Knob" on Pro Channel FX Chain knobs is only about connecting it to a plugin, not to external hardware. ?
  8. Hehe, I hear you! I'll give it a try! But the more I think about an indicator that tracks are filtered, the more I like the idea. It reminds me a bit of Excel - if you have filtered a column, the text "Filtered" appears in the bottom status bar to remind you that you are not looking at the full spreadsheet. I think it's a fitting analogy - in Cakewalk you are kind of "filtering" the track view. ?
  9. I produce electronic dance music and don't really do any "external" recording of vocals or instruments, but I think I tend to keep too many options open anyway, saving a lot of unnecessary stuff in my projects... ? Do you guys hide a lot of tracks? I find it a bit "scary", since there's no indicator that there are hidden tracks in the session. I recently hid a bunch of tracks and then forgot about it a day or two later, causing a lot of confusion and searching until I finally realized they were hidden... ?‍♂️
  10. I'm a huge fan of Duplicate and will check tomorrow and get back to you. ?
  11. I sometimes quickly search for duplicated notes by stepping down in the Event List (or whatever it's called) while at the same time looking in the PRV. If I press the down arrow twice in a row without moving forward in the PRV, it's a double.
  12. I appreciate the difficulty of starting with a new DAW... ? Luckily, there are some good tutorials out there that might help, here's just two of them. ? I've cued them to where they talk about recording:
  13. I'm sure they will since you're asking so nicely... ? I realize this won't help your old projects, but I've never had to use mono->stereo plugins, since in Sonar/Cakewalk, on a track containing a mono wave file, you can just click the Stereo button in the Inspector (or Console, apparently) and then start adding stereo effects. Works brilliantly! From the manual: "The Mono/Stereo button in each track forces the track’s audio signal to enter any patched plug-ins as either mono or stereo, whether or not the tracks are mono or stereo. This allows you to use either mono effects on a stereo track or stereo effects on a mono track."
  14. First of all, I love what you guys do and am super grateful! All I'm saying is that evaluating new things takes time even if everything goes perfectly. And, from time to time, small gremlins might also show up... after all, this IS software we're talking about. I work in IT, so maybe I'm just damaged... ? @Noel Borthwick @Jonathan Sasor Oh and I never got to thank you guys properly for Duplicate Clip! It was something I longed for for years. And now that it respects Snap By, I am in techno drum programming heaven! It's the best thing since sliced loops! ?️?? You guys rock!
  15. When working on tight deadline, I'd recommend staying away from EA's to begin with. In fact, I'd say that most studio people don't upgrade at all during deadlines... I lagged 3-4 Cakewalk releases behind during an intense period, where stability was priority #1.
  16. Agreed, using Patch Points requires a few clicks, but just creating two sends from one track to two (or more!) different buses is pretty quick. No?
  17. Good suggestions! Hm, I'm not sure I understand this one? You can already send a track to multiple buses or outputs using multiple Sends...? And I suppose you have explored Patch Points?
  18. This is how my Cakewalk behaves, I belieeeve I haven't remapped the default keybindings: ? When the mouse pointer hovers over the Drum PRV, then ALT + scrollwheel does nothing. When the mouse pointer hovers over the regular PRV area, ALT + scrollwheel zooms in horizontally. Pressing CTRL + LEFT/RIGHT zooms in horizontally, regardless of focus. And oh, you should probably make the thread name a bit more descriptive.
  19. I think you should put that disclaimer up front with every EA download link, to save you some time.
  20. Agreed, really good idea! ? I'm so used to the limitation that I don't even think about it, and most often use track automation just to be more flexible...
  21. Hm, did I understand correctly: if you already have something bound for A, the new update will add the Arranger View to A so you have two functions on A?
  22. @msmcleod Ah, interesting, thanks for the explanation! Good to know it's there... @winkpain Yeah, yesterday I suddenly "found" a bunch of tracks I'd hidden in my project and then forgot about it... So in lack of better memory, an indicator would be nice. ? (My life consists of reminders...) Sorry, ending the off-topic stuff here. ?
  23. I just read your thread about it from last month, what a ruckus you had! ? What IS that Enhanced Keyboard Editing Mode anyway? (I read the manual but still don't really get it.) If Cakewalk had had an on/off indicator for that mode, it would have been easier for you to troubleshoot. (In fact, I believe Cakewalk needs more indicators for features that are a bit tucked away: when any track(s) are hidden, when auto preview and looping is enabled in the browser, for example.) Edit: I just checked my own bindings: I've had "Solo all selected tracks" on Num 0 for years myself...
  24. When rearranging with Ripple Edit you have to manually handle overlaps as well... so the Arranger Track should be a quicker way to do more complex restructuring? Although it might be easier to be observant and "catch" all overlap problems if you do it as you go along while Ripple Editing... Nevertheless, as you said it'll be an amazing "play tool", and probably not just in early stages but also in later stages if some alternative ideas happen to come up. There'll be no more: "Imagine that the break here builds up and climaxes to this part over HERE instead... like THIS! *trying frenetically to click at another point in the timeline at the exact right moment, but failing as usual to demonstrate the full extent of the greatness of said idea*" ?
