Problems with Duplicate Clip and Snap "By"
GreenLight replied to GreenLight's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Thanks for all your input, @chuckebaby, much appreciated! Yes, I've read the documentation. It gives me the expectation that Snap settings, including To/By, should be followed. I agree with you, and I don't think that your workflow would be negatively impacted if Duplicate Clip respected Snap By. -
Problems with Duplicate Clip and Snap "By"
GreenLight replied to GreenLight's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I gave it some more thought: Hm, I actually disagree, I have told Cakewalk what I want it to do: I want to duplicate and I have snap set to By and Measure, hence: duplicate the selected notes By a Measure. -
Problems with Duplicate Clip and Snap "By"
GreenLight replied to GreenLight's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@chuckebaby Thanks for chiming in! Ah, you're right, selecting the entire measure works. (I actually think I did that at some point, but forgot about it.) But still, I would say it's basically a bug since snap settings are not working as expected. Snap To and By both work as To. I'm gonna test how it works in Live and report back. -
I have some problems with the new Duplicate Clip feature, when it comes to duplicating clips containing notes (drum hits in this case) that do not start at beat 1 in a measure. The notes are duplicated as if snap is set to To and not By. But if I first extend the clip to the start of the measure the empty space in the beginning is kept. But isn't the point that you shouldn't have to do that, if you have enabled "Use Current Snap Settings on Duplicate Selected Clip(s)" and snap set to "By" (and "Whole")? Copying notes/clips using drag & drop respects the snap to and by setting as I expect, which is why I believe Duplicate Clip behaves "wrong". I need help to understand if I have the wrong expectations or if the duplicate clip feature could be improved... Pre-requisites I have "Use Current Snap Settings on Duplicate Selected Clip(s)" enabled. I have Snap set to "By" and "Whole". I am using Cakewalk 2019.09 (build 70) Steps I create a simple two measure snare pattern on beats 2 & 4. I select the notes (by either clicking the clip in clip view or by right-click dragging around the notes in the PRV). Key observation: The selection does not extend to the beginning nor the end of the measures. I duplicate the clip with CTRL + D. The duplicated snare hits start at beats 1 & 3. Important note: Having snap set to TO actually produces the same result. Expected result: Snare hits should be duplicated BY a whole measure, putting hits at beats 2 & 4. Note that this is how snap by works with drag & drop and shouldn't Duplicate Clip also do that? Thanks!

[CLOSED] Cakewalk 2019.12 Early Access
GreenLight replied to Morten Saether's topic in Early Access Program
This is worrying. Is this with 2019.11? Can you go back to 2019.09 and see if the problem goes away? -
Producing a "swing feel" with MIDI Instruments?
GreenLight replied to Michael McBroom's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I wish Cakewalk had a "Swing setting" for each MIDI channel, like some other DAW:s do. It would be quick and awesome! -
What?! How long has the CTRL + left click shortcut been around for clip gain?! It's brilliant, thanks for pointing it out @msmcleod!

Feature Request: Native Instruments NKS Support Please
GreenLight replied to JonnyS's topic in Feedback Loop
I agree, NKS support would be great and it would make Cakewalk even more attractive for new users! NKS for developers https://www.native-instruments.com/en/specials/komplete/this-is-nks/developers/ -
feature request after 25+ years I would love to see these features
GreenLight replied to sabo fx's topic in Feedback Loop
Glad to help! I don't know how many times I've missed something myself! Interesting, I didn't know this (and I started with Pro Audio). Yeah, there were some "feature casualties" along the way... -
feature request after 25+ years I would love to see these features
GreenLight replied to sabo fx's topic in Feedback Loop
This already exists, with "nudge up/down", I think the default keys are 8 / 2 on the numeric keypad. Check this page out, at the bottom. I use that all the time! But keyboard shortcuts for one octave up/down would be nice as well. (I have a key binding for Transpose, so I can do it pretty quickly anyway.) -
Feature request: Show 5 permanent favorites in plugin menu
GreenLight replied to GreenLight's topic in Feedback Loop
The second option, the custom layout, isn't a good solution as it makes the menu static, so as soon as you add stuff you need to update it... But the first option, creating a custom "favorites" category, is SMART! Why didn't I think of that myself? Thanks @scook! My original request still stands though, as it would be one level up and therefore quicker to access. Completely unrelated: have you (or anyone else) experienced that the "fold out" arrow in the plugin menu suddenly goes missing? The menu won't expand by just pointing, I have to click... In the image above, only "Soft Synths" has an expansion arrow, it's missing on "Audio FX". -
True! It seems that the hotfix that was released last Wednesday might have fixed most issues people had with 2019.11...

Great! What is the consensus on the general stability of 2019.11? Are the initial issues solved now? Dare I update?

Feature Request: Native Instruments NKS Support Please
GreenLight replied to JonnyS's topic in Feedback Loop
Agreed, NKS support would increase the attractiveness of Cakewalk for new users. And I would love it as well. -
Hi all! I have been having an intermittent problem with Cakewalk (and maybe Sonar?) for a long time, but unfortunately I can't really reproduce it reliably. I preview a lot of wav files using the browser, and sometimes certain files "bypass" the preview bus and somehow play back anyway, often REALLY LOUDLY, making me jump in my chair. No meter in Cakewalk moves, but I can see the sound card mixer software reacting. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does it seems to affect a specific file: that file always has the same problem every time I play it during that session. I just had the issue with a wav loop, but after restarting Cakewalk, the same file played back normally through the preview bus. ? So I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I just had the problem on Cakewalk 2019.09 build 70. I don't know how to troubleshoot or to properly report it...

With regards to markers, I kind of like ProTools' solution of a separate marker "section" (or "track" maybe, but it doesn't look like a track really). It makes markers very easy to distinguish, albeit by sacrificing some vertical space: Image from recordingrevolution.com: https://www.recordingrevolution.com/optimize-pro-tools-marker-colors/ Something for Cakewalk to be inspired by, perhaps?

Or maybe @Benjamin Hudson meant drag & drop of plugins between categories? That would be "within the browser", as he expressed it...

I haven't had time to install 2019.09 yet, but I am interested about this possibility as well. My workflow is to use W like you all the time, expecting playback to stop. From the Feature Overview thread: "Go to Start and Go to End buttons (?) now accurately seek to project beginning and end, and do not stop playback." Does the stopping only concern the buttons and not the actual keybindable actions? Or was it just an unfortunate choice of words...? Maybe we could have two different keybindable actions: Go to Start (and stop) Go to Start (and keep playing) Then it would be easy for the user to select.
-
So if I install 2019.09 right now, I won't be able to use projects that use U-he Satin? I am SO psyched about the Duplicate Clips feature, it's something I have requested a couple of times in the past.
-
Thanks @Tenfoot, cool! Had no idea it existed, but I'm sure it can be very useful ! My first thought was that project loading times might be annoying, and then I read your post above... ?

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what is the Playlist feature in Cakewalk? Has it been around for a long time??

Feature request: Keyboard focus to browser search field
GreenLight replied to petemus's topic in Feedback Loop
Good idea! It's focus on these kind of small workflow enhancement that Cakewalk needs, in my opinion. Also, maybe a way to use the keyboard to switch between the tabs in the Browser (Audio FX / Midi FX / Instruments / ReWire), unless it's already there and I missed it?
