Noise in the program, a crackling sound
Terry Kelley replied to Чело Век's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This is one of several things that work in Sonar but have issues in CbB. But they are working through them. -
TTS-1 Works In Old Projects But Crashes New Ones.

Well, well. Sonar 8 plays the file fine. What does this tell me? Not a d&^% thing! Update - The file crashes on my buddy's CbB and works on his Sonar 8. There you have it. -

For $15, I'll tolerate it. But back to the TTS. -

Reading about this. Sounds interesting. And no iLok! Well, after saying it doesn't use iLok, it does. -

Still working on this. There appears to be nothing I can remove or change to make TTS not crash on it's first note. I've removed all effects and all other synths. I've messed with as many settings as I can. I know the config file contains many more but not all are intuitive on what they do. But this makes me think (similar to Mdiemer) that it's something inherent in the project now. The crash is a memory access violation. The TTS-1 dll is either sitting somewhere it shouldn't or Cakewalk is accessing memory it shouldn't thinking the TTS is there. As long as no notes are triggered, everything is fine. File lock? Maybe some other app sees the TTS and is locking it? I'm just guessing. I will start from scratch building a new project to see if I can get it to crash at some point. Where's Codeview when I need it! Yes, I know, don't say it. Edit1: Freezing the TTS will make it crash. No notes needed. -

I did check out Project Scope and noticed the problem project shows a Matrix Data track and a No Name track as 22 and 23. My project has no 22 or 23. I don't know if this means anything. The instant TTS has to play a note it crashes. 022 Matrix Data Track MIDI 023 [no name - track nn] MIDI -
TTS-1 Works In Old Projects But Crashes New Ones.

Very interesting. I tried it and any pure midi files (.MID) load and play fine. I never knew Cakewalk would load TTS as a default synth like that although I'm sure it's mentioned 20 times in the manual and I never noticed it. Is there a setting where you can specify the default soft synth? I am not sure what this tells me though. It's similar to creating a new project and adding the TTS. That works. Anything created in the past (more than 6 months) seems to open and play although I haven't opened every single one to try it. Edit: On three files that will crash, removing ALL plug-ins and soft synths doesn't fix it. It still crashes on the first note from the TTS. If I redirect the midi to a different soft synth and don't have the TTS play anything, it doesn't crash. -

Loading from the synth rack still crashes on the first note. Since I can add it to a new empty project or play any of the previous projects that had it already I think it's a conflict with some other plug in. I am taking this "problem project" and slowly deleting plug-ins to see if one of them fixes TTS. As for it being unsupported, I get that, but CbB does ship it with the program so it should work as it did at one time. I did submit a ticket and got told to pound sand (or I am overly exaggerating a paraphrase of a loose interpretation of what they really said.) That said (pun intended), it could easily be an issue with some external evil force like a plug-in I've added recently. I also appreciate all of the suggestions. Work around's are good but it would be nice to know what actually changed and fix that if possible. Or pound sand ... -

I will try this but I can load/insert the TTS, but when it has to play some notes, it crashes. Edit: Nope, it crashes on the first note. -

I am still fighting TTS-1. It crashes the instant it's expected to produce a sound. Something has changed but I can't nail it down. I need some input on how to logically troubleshoot it. I am just spinning my wheels at this point. I get the age-old C000000005 Window memory issue. What I know: 1. Anything created before about July works. I have some tracks with 10 separate TTS-1's playing and they work fine. Don't ask why I did that, I just did. They work. 2. If I add TTS-1 to something already existing but didn't have it before, it crashes. I think there is a hint in this. 3. If I create a wholly new project, I can add as many as I want and they work. 4. I've checked that I am running the x64 versions. I am. 5. I've checked that my sample rate is withing the range acceptable to TTS. It is. I normally run 48,000. I checked that Windows, CcbB and my Presonus iTwo are set to that (Presonus defaults to the Windows setting.) They are. 6. I've verified the dll/dat files with a friends, and they are a perfect match. 7. I deleted the dll/dat, uninstalled CbB, reinstalled and get the same fail. 8. I switched interfaces to my Behringer and the Windows internal sound and it still crashes. 9. I submitted a request and dump file to support and got the reply 'We didn't write this so you are on your own.' However, CbB does bundle it so ... To point 2 above: I think there is a conflict with another sound module/VST, effect. I will take one of the trouble songs and start backing out plug-ins to see it. I know some of the Sonitus effects are unstable such as the reverb and delay. Move a control while it's playing and enjoy your speakers heading across the room. If anyone has some troubleshooting logic I should try, I would love to hear it! -
[CLOSED] Cakewalk 2019.11 Hotfix Early Access 1
Terry Kelley replied to Noel Borthwick's topic in Early Access Program
I installed the hotfix today and it corrected the audio engine freaking out (disconnecting constantly) but I get the attached error when I close a file. It's otherwise working great. Probably unrelated. LOL. _11302019_205645.dmp -
I've often have this problem where I export some song to wave and it's either blank, noise or only a short section. I can do it again and it's fine without changing anything. One difference is that a problem export with be very quick, maybe 10-20 seconds for 4 minutes of music. A good export is always far slower taking maybe 60 seconds. Sometimes I can do something like move a volume control a small amount and it will then export fine, or close Cakewalk and do it again. There is nothing in particular I can put my finger on. If it fail, just do it again and will *probably* work. Anyone else run into this?

No worries. I truly appreciate the help (from everyone.) V-Vocal actually does what I want and I like using it but I ran into this split issue and I was scared and confused. I checked out Melodyne but for the cost I didn't see it as worth moving to ... yet. Update: I need to read up on Automation. If I delete the volume automation, the V-vocal (after rendering) works like I expect - perfectly. That volume automation is what was making it all goofy. Deleted it and all is fine. I can re-automate after I edit.

Not sure of your question, but I normally have several clips on a track that I created either by recording or copy/paste. I would V-Vocal some or all of the clips as needed. This the first time I’ve had one long clip that was V-Vocal’d so when I went to split it I was surprised I couldn’t. Ok, learned something new. I rendered it and started splitting. I deleted (after I determined I had to use Cut) some clips and started copy and pasting but that didn’t always work and I couldn’t nudge them using the pull down or nun keys. The clips wouldn’t always highlight to tell you which one was about to be affected until you right clicked. I removed the region from the long clip and everything is smooth. I will V-Vocal each clip after I am done editing. When I get a chance I’ll see what I was doing wrong, but it wasn’t obvious to me. While I could split a rendered clip, cut and paste was random. I also noticed the V-Vocal label would disappear on some tracks after rendering but not others even though I could split them. I was thinking I might have some hidden layers but couldn’t find them. I just need to remember to leave the magazine at Witt’s End.
-
So for the two tracks, I rendered them which then allows me to split them (each in several places.) However, I can't select any section to delete or select a section to copy. Sometimes it will highlight a section but I can't really do anything to it. I've been reading the manual but I don't get what is happening. Was I wrong to use V-Vocal before I copied and pasted sections? Is that not possible once you've used V-Vocal? I am missing something here. Edit: Ok, I notice the section will highlight AFTER I right click on it, but selecting delete doesn't delete it. The highlight goes away once I click Edit-Delete but it's still there. Edit 2!: Cut does cut the section. Delete doesn't. Final: I removed the regions themselves and I can edit them as I expect it to work. I'll redo any V-Vocals once I am happy with the editing.

When I select a position and right click, Split is grayed out. Hmmm

Midi SMPTE timecode sync on an audio track - Sync Midi?

Yes, the days of the Sansui 6 track! I have two I slaved together but I want to transfer to CbB. -
Midi SMPTE timecode sync on an audio track - Sync Midi?
Terry Kelley replied to Terry Kelley's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes but I didn’t see anything that says to use Track 12 for midi sync (as an example.) I think it would need CbB to use two different clocks. One to run the audio and then use the sync track to run the midi. it would allow us to copy our old tape-based audio with a sync track to CbB with the midi tracks. Right now I have just been copying the audio to wave tracks and then sliding them around. Surprisingly they stay in sync even though they are just free-wheeling. -
I have a feeling this will be the blind leading the blind, but ... Can I get CbB to sync to an audio track that has midi or SMPTE time code? I have some old audio tapes and one track is the sync track. I would like to get the midi tracks to chase the time code track. I import all tracks and then make one audio track the time base. I've already thought of several reasons why this might not work but if CbB's time base can be controlled from that track, it might work assume it keeps the audio tracks timing separate. I looked in preferences and didn't see anything that would allow it. "It's just so crazy it might work!"

Anything You Find Confusing About CbB?
Terry Kelley replied to Craig Anderton's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yeah, I think there is some factor we’re not accounting for. I used to do this regularly in Sonar all the way back to CfW. -
Well, that explains the sudden x-ray vision ...
-
I've been using Cakewalk since the first DOS version by Greg H back in the 20th century. However, free is synonymous with "catch." There is a catch coming, but until then I love CbB. But I will drop back to Sonar if the "other shoe" that drops is a big one.

Midi copy and paste is weird. I can do clip loops but just selecting a measure to copy and paste results in the first paste being a couple of ticks later than I specify. If I do multiple measure of paste, each one is a couple of ticks later than the prior one. For example, if I paste a measure at 7:01:000 it actually pastes at 7:01:003. If I tell it to paste 10 times, the second one is at 8:01:006, then 9:01:009, etc. I don't know why it shifts it out. Not sure I am making any sense ... And the function to snap to measure doesn't always. A tutorial on non-clip loop copy and paste would be nice.
