  1. Many companies try it, but many fail. There just aren't enough new users to keep bringing in revenue. Many companies have no choice but to try and switch to rental to keep revenue coming it. For many, it’s a no win situation.I’ll bet they would sell every perpetual license possible in the first year and be down to a trickle in year two. So while some of us have rejected rental, Bandlab didn’t have much choice. And remember, this wasn’t the developers decision.
  2. Early on, Bandlab said it would go away but they’ve extended it past most people’s expectations. Since Bandlab took over Cakewalk they’ve been good about giving a heads up to changes and I expect the same with the end of CbB.
  3. Oh name names. I can spell. If people start dropping back from the subscription to free, that’s not good. There must be a plan.
  4. Too be fair there were/are singers that can't sing live what they sang in the studio originally. Ignore the "night after night" aspect. Night after night does take a toll even with training and care. The vocal gymnastics in the studio are great but when live deviates too much, well, no ... I would rather they thought about if they could sing it live regardless of singing it night after night. I love Led Zepplin but I never saw them live where Robert Plant was even remotely close to the record even in his twenties (or remember the correct lyrics.)
  5. Starship, I wasn't directing an insult at you. If you believe that I offer my apologize. I was only critiquing the new offering and pondering the reasons.
  6. I don’t think things went as planned. And something else is about to change. The newer Sonar is nice but it’s not must have software. It’s not a “I don’t care what it costs, I just have to have it!” I would gladly pay a subscription for something I can’t live without, but Sonar isn’t it. If a reasonable perpetual license became available, I would consider it. But as it stands, Sonar has its little pluses but I can do everything I want elsewhere. So I watch the show.
  7. That's the reason its now free with a couple of restrictions? Right.
  8. Listen to some Gentle Giant to counter balance it. I have to learn how to work the internet.
  9. Gino Vannelli still sounds good but he says he used a vocal coach for many years to save his voice. It too will go at some point. He teaches sing now to boot.
  10. What and ruin the illusion?
  11. I get what you are saying. When the lead singer has to shout or talk the lyrics because the can't hit the notes anymore or when they can no longer do either they point the mic at the audience for a "sing along", it's time to stop. This isn't true for EVERYONE. Some singers can decline and still be entertaining. Robert Plant just doesn't sing a lot of the older stuff. Assuming he remembers the lyrics. I understand that some artists sing in the studio notes and phrase that are hard on their voice to do night after night and need to pitch down some but at some point their voice is shot. I don't want my last image of being their inability to sing well. Even one of my favorites - Paul McCartney needs to wrap it up. And I hate saying that. David Lee Roth has to shout the lyrics now because he can't hit the notes. I don't want that memory. Then we have the band where the only original member is the third bass player brought in after they had been around for 20 years but was the only one smart enough to copyright the band name.
  12. Yeah, the developers aren’t the bad guys here and they took the brunt of the vitriol.
  13. Nope. Seems Next was supposed to. The Bandlab people here did everything they could to say no without saying no. There wasn’t much vagueness though. They finally had to start locking threads about it. Like this one will be shortly.
  14. It was made clear by someone at Bandlab outside this forum a year or so back that it would never happen. If it finally does it will be because they changed their minds and not because they finally made a decision. The decision has been made. Where’s my thread lock icon…
  15. Too late. Mine sold my house.
  16. One is DADFAC he used on New Horizons. He is also a fan of open D and DADGAD. I am not a Justin Hayward technique expert. I've just picked up stuff from watching people's analysis of his songs and tunings.
  17. Interesting guy. I met and did some work for Mike Pinder and he too was a good guy. He spoke highly of Hayward. Pinder gave me some good insights as to how they did the recordings. He said I missed meeting Hayward by a couple of hours one day when he visited him. WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME PINDER! I like messing with some of Hayward's alternate tunings.
  18. Todd Rundgren - Todd Gino Vannelli - Gist of the Gemini First five King Crimson albums
  19. I was thinking it might be the real and terrifying reason with a red arrow pointing to something totally irrelevant to the thumbnail. But hey, that’s just me. And she’s welcome to any Adams apple she wants.
