  1. Leilani fried fish today, but they weren't blackened. Oh my cod!!! They were tasty.
  2. Seriously... I don't know about others, but when I'm playing music, especially when gigging and improvising a solo, I get into that place where there is no space, no time, no me, no they, no words --- just the music which seems like it is flowing through me instead of from me. It's a feeling quite a bit like meditation, which 'they' say is good for the mind. (Whoever 'they' are.) So for people like me it just might be good for mental heath. I know I like my life, and if I had to do it over again, I'd choose the same career. I'm happy, I haven't missed a gig due to illness or anything else since I was in high school, and most of the time of day I'm just happy. That sounds healthy to me. I wake up in the morning, go to bed at night, and in between do what I want to do, not what someone else tells me to do. That's freedom, and that seems mentally healthy too. 3. I've not heard this one yet, but I have appreciated some of the other works by The Residents (some more than others), this one seems like it might be quirky-fun, so let's give it a go, shall we? Beyond the Valley of a Day in the Life - The Residents
  4. Fantasy? Imagination? Imaginary Lover - Atlanta Rhythm Section
  5. The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band
  6. Who supposedly runs hell? Sympathy For The Devil - Rolling Stones Musically one of my favorite Stones song. I wonder if someone like the Swampers did the recording. It's so unlike the majority of the Stones' output and I know they recorded in Muscle Shoals a few times. Whoever did it, the rhythm track cooks.
  7. I Put A Spell On You - The Animals My favorite version of this Screamin' Jay Hawkins blues standard
  8. Norm? I'm Bob, and you are Bill. Who is the Norm guy anyway?
  9. I've been a pro musician since I graduated school (actually even before that). I'm happily insane. I know I'm weird. I'm not normal. But I believe that I'm OK and the rest of the world is off. :D Insights and incites by Notes
  10. Brazil Song - Mark Murphy with Viva Brasil Perhaps one of the great North American interpreters of Brazilian songs backed by a band from Brazil. Delightful.
  11. Symphony #1 in Em - Aram Khachaturian / Armenian Philharmonic - Loris Tjeknavorian conducting
  12. Nice one Jackson My dad had a collection of Spike Jones records, and this reminds me of Dad. Silliness and music combined. My dad played trumpet, violin, ukulele, and in his later years organ. "Cocktails For Two" - Spike Jones & His City Slickers
  13. I Walk On Guilded Splinters - Dr. John I have no idea what he is singing about, I never really listened to the words, I'm too interested in what the musicians and background singers are doing. The song is nothing more than a delightful trance to me.
  14. Chain of Fools - Aretha Franklin Jerry Wexler asked Don Covay to write songs for Otis Redding. Jerry played Covay's demo of this one and decided it would fit Aretha better.
  15. I think the auto-censor was a little too aggressive on my last post ^^^
  16. Psychotic Reaction - Count Five I was in a road band and we played this song. I played a Farfisa organ, and in the 2-beat 'psychedelic' section I'd kick off my boot and "play" the organ with my foot - pure bullsh*t - mostly glissandos but the audience would go nuts. I started it one night goofing off, and it went over so well we kept it in the show. Part of the gig is being a musician, and another part is being an entertainer.
  17. Except that they wife and I (The Sophisticats) haven't had a gig for 10 months now. But it's better than catching COVID and croaking like a member in one of my friend's bands who took a few gigs.
