I could, but will not cross out kevin h and Peter yet. But their guess is almost impossible with the new extension anymore. If we don't get the extension the farthest we can achieve is 19 and if we do get the extension because we made it to 20 it will surely go over that in a month. But there is that slim chance that we make it to 20 and not more in the extension month.

Well, I have had a 36 year career in software development and we always worked at getting the best optimized code as possible. That is just normal professional behaviour for developers. Of course a faster machine can hide a not so well optimized app and of course there are times where your app needs more CPU power to be able to do what it set out to do. But I think that doubling the CPU usage of an app with very little new feature added might be an oversight. Any developer would be interested in knowing about it and that is the reason I brought it up. Just as an example, I brought a similar observation for a Cakewalk EA release to Noel Borthwick and he was glad I did because he didn't like that Cakewalk would get less efficient. I gave him a project to reproduce the problem, he worked on his code to optimise it and gave me a build to test in my environment. It worked. Of course I have quite a lot of respect for Noel and the bakers, they have proven to be very professional developers indeed. As I am sure IK's are also and, if my findings gets to them, will be interested in investigating. The only thing I regret is not having found how to contact IK support and decided to post my findings here hoping it would somehow magically get to them. Bad idea. In the future, now that I know how to contact support, that will be my line of communication with them. -
Anti-virus, at least on my PC, take a non negligible bite in CPU cycles. You may want to try disabling your anti-virus on specific folders you know are safe. Of course you must be careful, there is some danger excluding folders to virus scans. If you are not comfortable, you should not do it. Personally I have also excluded the Cakewalk folder, VST folders, Sound content folders. What I do if I install a new version of Cakewalk is run the anti-virus on that folder just after the install. Same with the VST folder when I install a new VST. For me it has made quite a difference. Cakewalk loads much faster, VST scans are much faster, loading a project is much faster and I have more CPU when I mix.

That would be unfair getting in the game so late when some have already been removed from the list. Just remember to get your guess in early in the next group buy! ?
-
Ya, just ask my kids! ? Hey, and I look just like him too! ?
-
Nope to all who want to change their guess! You should have included in your guess all possible, unlikely and even impossible extensions! That's part of this guessing game! There will be no foul calling accepted by anyone! Even someone with post counts greater than this group buy participant counts! And moreover... its just a game! ? Edit: And it wouldn't be fair to @Eusebio Rufian-Zilbermann who now stand a great chance of being a great visionary... and the other guy that called 24...

Wow, that's awesome! This has good chance to make me a winner in the 'guess the number of freebies' contest then! You guys really want us to get the full 24 freebies! Cool! ?

I would love to report my findings to support/developers. I did leave a message on the IK forum, but not sure this more good than here. Its for the community, not necessarily read by developers. I would rather get the info to developers as directly as possible and would certainly would have done so if it were easy to find where to enter a ticket! It might be just me, but I just can't find where on your web site. Edit: Scratch that, I finally found it! Edit 2: Done! Will report back when I get news. -
Got it! Thanks!

Could be due to another mailing IK did! I got it this afternoon: 'Group Buy: Now 17 for the price of one!' Just before things started picking up. These mailings seem to really help.

It just seemed awkward to me that with little changes in the release notes a plugin would double its CPU utilization. We can all upgrade our PCs so we have enough horse power, but I hope these companies take the time before a release to see what impact their changes do and if it could be optimized if needed. For now, I have rolled back the version of these plugins. It works better for me that way, although I know the day will come where I will feel the need to upgrade. -
IK Multimedia: High CPU on latest AT5 and Lurssen
Jacques Boileau replied to Jacques Boileau's topic in The Coffee House
Yep! It has to be now and not only because of AT5, but this GB has not only been taxing on my disk space, but CPU too! -
No, since the contest is the number of freebies, the max is 24. But, being an optimistic I did pick 24 though. As did Eusebio Rufian-Zilbermann.
-
It must be getting harder and harder to get the news out to people who haven't heard about the GB yet. There must be less and less. I know I have run out of friends to tell. I would love to see you win our little contest! Everyone benefits!

IK Multimedia: High CPU on latest AT5 and Lurssen
Jacques Boileau replied to Jacques Boileau's topic in The Coffee House
With a multi layered guitar song with a lots of doubled guitars and details on multiple tracks, double the load makes a heck of a difference! For what is added between 5.0.3 and 5.1.1, it is hard to understand what made it such a jump. Although I understand the new VIR technology must take some part of the new CPU load in AT5, but AT5.0.3 is double AT4. So AT5.1.1 is four times as CPU hungry as AT4! Sometimes I wish we could disable VIR, as it is the case in AT5 CS, for lesser important guitar parts to free up some CPU. Just a thought. -
IK Multimedia: High CPU on latest AT5 and Lurssen
Jacques Boileau replied to Jacques Boileau's topic in The Coffee House
Yes, but it is at 5.1.0 that the CPU usage increased. -
