  1. maybe you have something set in the preferences which cause the synth to cause this? i just tried this with all the Ample free ones (guitar, bass) and paid ones (2 guitars, 2 bass) i have, and then using my default record template which has a dozen VI (one is Ample U Bass), and not once did hitting play cause the file to go dirty.
  2. maybe a rotary knob controller is more of what you need for VST manipulation rather than the more track and transport type controller? e.g. (no longer made but this is the idea) Behringer | Product | BCR2000 https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0245
  3. are you touching any thing on the instrument, or have some automation on the instrument? i tested with a blank project and nothing happened until i touched one of the settings on the instrument, or used some automation to tweak it and then it caused the project to be treated as "dirty".
  4. if you don't need "real time", maybe you could use Melodyne (or equiv) to convert the audio to MIDI and trigger off that?
  5. i'm not sure Ozone 9 Dynamic EQ can sidechain. i don't have it loaded anymore on my machine but i tried Ozone 10 Advanced, and it's not sidechain-able. the Neutron EQ is sidechain-able.
  6. i've used a normal 10M USB 2 cable without issue on my old laptop and a Steinberg UR22 IO unit - 24bit 48Khz. why not just buy a 6M or 10M and try it?
  7. i did an electronic version a while back - my vocals. i have a number of really old (1982? 83?) actual live band recordings with some folks who could actually sing but they're buried someone in storage at the moment. which is what got my friend to contemplate the ballad version ?
  8. thanks! yeah, in the ballad the vocal is a bit high but i was looking for a "soft" instrumental effect. definitely the synthetic vocals are still a work in progress ? i did this as a demo for my friend who was looking to create a new version as a ballad with a female vocalist, and then another friend complained it was too lame. this one being a pink floyd fan, i turned around the next day with the floyd-like version. finally i thought - why not combine them and get them both happy? ?
  9. as a note - to shift the modal response of the room - those dividers will need to be solid / mass in order to create a change. and if you're looking to shift the shape of the room (e.g. the bookcases), then maybe consider some deep side absorption units which have membranes to force the modal response and provide LF absorption w. appropriate reflection units (e.g. diffusers, panels, etc) to support proper MF/HF balance if the side units don't do it.
  10. the "ballad" part is Natalie on lead + Asterian on the harmony / echo. i tweaked her voice to be soulful and warm, and moved gender to the right about 0.05, to thicken slightly. Asterian - as is. the key was using a lot of tweaks on the notes & phoneme settings. and each voice does something a bit different. the second half ("rock" portion) is Kevin on lead and Solaria on harmony / echo / oohs in lead solo section. both pushed the gender to the right to thicken, and a lot of work on Kevin to try and reduce the articulation and theatrical performance. a lot more on the notes & phoneme settings there. a lot of tweaks on phoneme levels and durations. so it took me about 3 hours to get them tweaked to the level you hear. I think Natalie's voice is one of the more realistic ones. the male vocals ones (including vocaloid products) does not yet rise to the level of realism yet. i think if you can "bury" the male vocal slightly and really tweak, its possible to get a decent version though.
  11. are you using the Kontakt plugin or the Komplete Kontrol as a plugin? i would suggest (if the latter) to switch to the Kontakt plugin, and load your instruments there. then set each MIDI channel on a given track to the channel # on the Kontakt instrument. also assign each instrument to its own output (stereo or L/R) (or blend in Kontakt (harder in my opinion)). when you insert an instrument in Kontakt, it generally assigns a MIDI channel starting with 1 for the first, 2 for the second etc but you can switch those later when you get comfortable with it.
  12. maybe re-run the CW redistributable install as i know some updates (like Edge) mess with the libraries.
  13. depends on what you are trying to achieve. if the old analog console inaccuracies are adding something to your mix, then the console emulators + bus emulators (PC or Waves NLS for example) can provide those behaviors. i would go so far as to suggest that a lot of the analog-age console folks (now in the box types) actually prefer the clean and non-anomalous behavior of digital with only some addition of analog console components as needed. ? whereas separate proper preamps units etc are generally desirable for headroom and feel.
  14. also - generally not a good idea to have the audio files syncing to OneDrive while using them ? best to pause OneDrive syncing until you're done, otherwise you may find the OneDrive aggressive file locking tactics cause corruption in your files. i keep my CW files on their own SSD and use a sync app to copy them into the OneDrive and Google Drive spaces when done. eats up some more disk space until i archive a project, but much better performance and no corruption due to file contentions.
  15. yeah, they tend to over-articulate and as i'm learning - i have to create word separations to better mimic how i want them pronounced (when the syllabic controls don't do it) and even tweaking in Melodyne (mainly for the de-essing) doesn't quick get the feel right. but agreed - getting close and in the right type of music or as backing vocals, they can be pretty hard to distinguish. EDIT: i found that in the phoneme edits you can set the "s" and other sounds levels to effectively "de-ess" right in the performance, then add a very light de-esser to capture anything which may jump out.
  16. yeah, nothing like forgetting to turn it off and spending 30 minutes editing tracks to find it's skewed beyond repair... heard it from, erm, a friend ? one reason i separate record and mix projects. hypothetically, uh, if i, erm, did something like that, i could simply re-start a new mix project with all the original recording tracks intact and not have to try and sort 500 "edit" files...
  17. so, my friend who wrote this song back in H.S. (1978?) liked my updated electronic version, and thought about doing it as a ballad. being instructional, i decided to show the various steps to go from composition to finished via a number of emails and mp3 files (and was resounding mocked by some ? )... on the rock part you can practically smell the lasers ? lol basically - all synthetic vocals. using SynthV and the Natalie, Kevin, Asterian, and Solaria voices. i created the basic forms - a simple acoustic version followed by a progressive rock-like thingie using HookPad. export MIDI. import each into a separate project and set up instruments, export to WAV. about 12 tracks (mainly drums) in the acoustic, and 18 tracks in the rock version (11 are drums). two vocals each. then create the vocals in Synth V - since they all going to sing all of it, i create the first track and get the vocals close. probably about 3 hours. export all four vocalists... import into their respective mix projects along with the instrument tracks. mix and export as 2-track WAV. import the two WAV into a new project and do the overlap, a touch of reverb, some Ozone 10, and, voila! export as 2-track WAV and MP3 (using the export manager, again). so all in all - about 12 hours between the two projects. acoustic tracks are jazz brush kit, upright bass, grand piano, cello, and hammered dulcimer (solo). the rock track is fairfax 1 rock drums, upright bass, b3 organ (pad), mono super saw-wave synth, electric guitar w/ tremolo, les paul with effects for lead.
  18. and reload the CW redistributables as there are many times the ordering of the API seem to get screwed up - esp (seemingly) after an Edge update...
  19. agreed - the export function really says a lot of time - if i'm using a bunch of VI tracks in my recording project, i don't have to render them first, just export in preparation for the mix template.
  20. thanks all for the comments. did some more work with the drumming as it was a "happy accident" at first as the choir vocals caused the tom toms so i tweaked the MIDI to clean it up and tone it down a bit. the sax part is actually a real tracks solo from BIAB where i wrote out the song and added a pop sax soloist. then exported as a single track for the mix. ? i think i put the drums up front more since there is really only a few instruments: drums, bass (upright), double bass string pad, acoustic guitar, piano (in a few spots), reggae organ, and really the choir parts as pads. 4 vocals - two duet then +2 more for the pre and chorus and bridge. however in the recent mix, i took a lot of cymbals out to clean up the drums.
  21. thanks! i re-instrumented it - i had originally used the hookpad sounds, re-did them using my proper instruments including the B3... ? i wrote it many years ago for a wedding song... it's in 6/4 time. the vocals are 100% synthetic using the Synth V voices as i wanted to try them out with a "singing" song . so no bway here! just disney lol ?
  22. something nice for a change ? ok, after a bit, i've updated. whilst i liked the quirky version, it wasn't really my goal on this. it was originally written as a wedding song long ago (1982?) and was supposed to be a waltz-like number. so after a bunch of tweaks, i think i like this version in its simplicity...
  23. +1 -- yeah, the Synth V is very cool. i took one of my songs, imported the "choir lead" track MIDI, then added the lyrics (took some adjustments but not too bad as Jim noted some tweaks), then cloned and re-arranged a few parts for better harmonies across 4 voices. one cool thing (depending) is it constantly re-compiles as you're working, for me this is transparent, but on a slower machine would not be fun. then import as you would any other vocal tracks. as a note, before you start - setup the project with tempo, key, time signature, etc. one handy thing is the ability to import an audio track so you can position everything to the rough mix. i think some of the voices are still a bit more synthetic than i would like but it's likely i don't have enough time in to make it better yet (only did 1 hour so far ? )
  24. i think anyone making 100,000 posts probably should get a life ?
  25. if you cannot write your own DAW then you shouldn't be making music on a computer. ?
