    Little amp question

Does it need a phone/tablet to adjust it (in more than just very basic ways)? That's not going to be practical if so unfortunately. It might be a Christmas/birthday present, but I was hoping to find something a little cheaper for now. I'd looked at a Boss one which is probably "good enough" (https://www.amazon.co.uk/BOSS-KTN-MINI-Katana-Portable-Amplifier/dp/B072XKP8TH/ref=sr_1_23?crid=3U2N14MH6RDY2&keywords=small+guitar+amp&qid=1694519906&sprefix=small+guitar+amp%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-23) or a Blackstar (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackstar-FLY3-Fly-3-black/dp/B0BS9V2V9J/ref=sr_1_24?crid=3U2N14MH6RDY2&keywords=small%2Bguitar%2Bamp&qid=1694519906&sprefix=small%2Bguitar%2Bamp%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-24&th=1) which does at least match the uke!

    Little amp question

I'd looked at them (or similar) then discounted because of price - we weren't expecting to buy another instrument, let alone a custom electric uke ?

    Little amp question

I'm looking for some ideas for a small "guitar" amp: people here are very helpful - and knowledgeable (and I'm tapping into your wisdom...aka being a little lazy to start with). My 7 year old son has decided he's going to concentrate on learning recorder and ukelele. His latest acquisition is a one-off electric ukelele, something of an impulse purchase (at a country fair of all places!). We want to get him a small amp: there was a Vox battery powered one he played through at the fair which made us think about what we could get that has a speaker, supports headphones, has some internal FX and ideally has a line-in so he can play along to music. Definitely doesn't need to be battery powered though. I could trawl through manufacturers' websites but I know people here may well have some ideas before I start down that rabbit hole!

  5. My son (7 yo) is quite musical: he plays recorder well, he's had violin lessons, plays ukelele a little, picked up my bass guitar (and naturally played a bit like Lemmy!) and is often whistling and singing. I have a Hawkwind CD in the car for me to listen to, and he wanted to listen to it. He's now decided that a 1979 song of theirs (Shot Down In The Night) is his favourite song and he has already learned the words and wants to sing it all the time (or with me accompanying on guitar). I feel my work is done :-)
  6. How does Cakewlak/Sonar know it's mono?
  7. Nik Turner's Fantastic All Stars - So What For double points of course.
  8. My examples could easily be from a soft-synth so the same logic applies - throwing away one channel is (potentially) bad.
  9. There's only the increase if there's a correlated signal in both channels. Take a contrived example where the left channel is a sine wave and the right channel is the same sine wave phase shifted by 180 degrees. Sum them to mono and you get no signal. In a more real-world example, suppose you have a stereo track containing something like a string quartet, quite heavily panned. Throwing one side away would be significantly worse than adding a 3dB gain as you'd actually lose information (instruments). The extreme example would be a stereo signal with silence in the left channel and something (anything!) in the right. Collapsing in your way would lead to silence which is obviously incorrect. That said, the 3dB gain is potentially a problem, so surely the better thing to do would be to add a "hidden" 3dB attenuation when you set the interleave of a genuine stereo track to mono?

Reminds me of Yes, especially in the vocals.

  12. What audio interface? On my (older) Ryzen system, I went through a phase where I had to connect my USB MOTU to a USB 2 port, not USB 3, else I got some weirdness (fixed at some point with BIOS/Windows update).
