I struggle to get to grips with the 'freeze' facility. In a nutshell is it purely to save CPU power? If so, this has been a feature for many many years when processing power was at a premium. Now that processors are ten times faster is there any real need for it or is it because VSts and effects require more power than they ever did? And secondly - I watched a video of a guy converting a midi track to audio. But first he used the freeze command on the track and then used the resultant audio and saved it as an audio file. He then imported that audio file into the project. That seems to be beating about the bush a bit i.e. the long way to go about doing something that should be very straightforward. I feel I may be missing something here (as I don't see me ever having to use this facility) and would welcome any comments on this subject that may enlighten me. Cheers

If anyone can help that would be great. Mine is the same.

That's always a good reason to 'save as' - as a back up. The alternative is to do an actual back up of the file elsewhere. The best piece of advice I came across many years ago (30 years maybe) with regards to backing up was to think how you would feel if you 'lost' a particular file (through whatever reason) and then decide whether it was worth backing up or not. In music terms the answer would be to back up as often as possible.

Some good detective work everyone thanks once again.

Thank you that seems to have sorted it.

In the video mentioned above it shows that when the strip is expanded in track view track there is n FX option to which an effect was added. When I expand the strip there is no such option. Is there a likely reason for this? See screenshots below. The first is from the MT Drumkit website. The letters FX appear after the 'A' on Track 2. The second is my project. There is no FX in the expanded strip..

Conversion to Audio results in sudden ending
brandon replied to brandon's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I tried this one but it didn't work when converting to audio from midi. I think its for when you export audio only. -
To clarify - if i dont want to use up more space or have a project with different time sigs (for example) is it simply best to just 'save' the project when am closing it?
-
When I checked my wav files location i find there is nothing in the folder. I presumed it would hold all audio recordings from my projects - is this not the case?
-
I understand that if you just 'Save' a project each time you close it etc. you will amass a load of unnecessary and unwanted audio stored somewhere on your PC. And the only way to avoid this is to 'Save As' each time. This is inconvenient for a number of reasons. Is this really the case and if so does anyone know why?

Conversion to Audio results in sudden ending
brandon replied to brandon's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I found a tip in some old Sonar X3 help. What you do is highlight an extra few bars at the end of the track with the tails. This will get converted into audio and the effects that are tailing off will be recorded also. Thanks for the assistance. It got me thinking laterally and worked out very well. -

There is a way of dealing with tails while exporting audio. But I am struggling to find out how to deal with tails when bouncing midi into an audio track. Its very confusing as it should be quite simple. -
Is there a reason to choose one of the above bit rates over the other when exporting audio?

Audio format does not match current project sample rate
brandon replied to brandon's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Its all good. Thanks. Another quick one. I wanted to copy a number of audio tracks (6) from one project to another. I wouldnt be able to save them as one file so using the browser to drag and drop wouldn't be the answer unless i dragged them in one by one however they all have different start and finish times and copying them as a group would be much easier than lining them all up one at a time. Am sure there must be a way to copy a number of tracks simultaneously. -

Sounds logical. Would I have to save the audio as a wav file first before importing it? -
Thank you. Very helpful.

Thank you. Is there also a way of telling whether they are mono or stereo?
-
I am trying to paste into a project an audio clip that I have copied from another project but I keep getting the message above. I have checked the sample rates of the projects and bit rates and they are identical. Any ideas? For information the audio clip I am copying was created by bouncing to a track. Thank you

I have tried to separate the individual drums onto their own tracks but have not been successful. I can load MT Drums with all synth outputs to stereo or mono but although there are 16 drums available and 16 tracks have been created I am only able to number them from 1 to 8. The dropdown does not include numbers 9 to 16 and i wondered why this might be and was there a way around it. Thank you in advance.

I have a Drums VST in my project and would like to know if there is a way to find out what it was added as. For example a Simple Instrument Track. Might this be possible? Thanks

I have converted a drum track to audio and when I play it and it reaches the end of the track it stops abruptly without allowing any decay from reverb and shimmering cymbals. Is there a way to prevent this -do I need to another measure to the end of the original track for example?
