Finally something worth having. ? Anyone know what the latest is with Scaler 2? Was going to be November 2019, then NAMM, but still no sign of it and they've put the price of v1 UP.

Update in case it helps anyone else, as suspected it was a windows 10 issue not Cakewalk. Privacy options blocking use of mic. Curiously my win 8.1 lappy also set to do this, but it doesn't affect CW. In win 10 it seems that it does. Thank you again Noel for your time - on a weekend no less - proving once again why the Cakewalk user experience is just better than the rest.

Thank you Noel. PM sent.

I'm trying to help a friend get set up with CW. She has this Blue snowball mic.. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blue-Microphones-Recording-Streaming-Adjustable/dp/B014PYGTUQ?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duc08-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B014PYGTUQ and a recent win10 HP laptop with Cakewalk version 2019.12 installed, but I can't get the mic to work. It is recognised by CW and I can select it as the track input, but as soon as you select the input echo to on you get the message "unable to open record device. Device may not support the current projects audio format or may be in use". The project in question is the CW "Vocals" template with nothing added to it other than selecting the mic as the input device on the track, which it accepts no problem. As a test, I also installed 2019.12 and the mic on my win 8.1 laptop with identical driver settings (WASAPI exclusive mode/ 16bit / 44100 sample rate fast buffer setting and it works like a charm - actually better than I expected tbh, but just gives the error message on hers so I suspect it's a win 10 issue rather than a CW issue, but I have no other win10 pc to try it on so as I have no experience with either win 10 or usb mics I thought it might be worth asking here if I'm missing something or if anyone has any experience with this mic? TIA for any guidance.

I almost did the same, but talked myself out of it because I'm still annoyed at having paid NI for a Komplete HD that turned out to be Kompletely pointless as on installation NI access insisted on downloading everything again anyway. Half wishing that I hadn't listened to myself now. Only half though........... To be continued.... Maybe.

You're welcome. I've got more if you ever get bored....? Yeah, I know, never that bored, right? If I were a local, part of me would be tempted to arrange a meet with that band guy just out of sheer morbid curiosity, but a bigger part of me would scream hell no as it's probably a serial killer with a grudge against alternative musician types using the ads as bait....... no,no Christian - do not bring your drummer friend with you. When I meet people for the first time I prefer it to be one on one........bwah hah hah......(obvs he's only thinking that bit, because it would be a bit of a giveaway if he actually bwah hah hah'ed.)

What do you think about this musical crime Bob??!
paulo replied to craigb's topic in The Coffee House
Can't say what Bob thinks, but if you were asking me I'd say it's not as bad as the spelling crime.? -
Larry, First off let me say that I haven't posted anything of mine in the songs forum for many years now so I have no horse in the race, so to speak, and I'm only offering an opinion here because that's what you asked for. Going by what you have said there's a fair chance that what follows may contain an opinion or two that you might not want to hear, but that's what happens if you ask people for opinions, so either buckle up in case the ride gets but a bit bumpy for your liking or don't bother reading any further. Either way, no malice is intended. My first thought was why you chose to respond to a PM in the public forum? Not only that, but in a different part of the public forum to that from which the issue arose? If your idea was solely to gather the thoughts of other forum members I would have thought that putting this thread in the Songs forum would have been more appropriate and to the point. You seem to have mostly supportive responses here, but maybe the feeling would be different amongst the people who actually post in the songs forum? Anyway, I'm by no means a regular visitor to the SF these days, so to get a better understanding of why the mystery complainant felt the need to say something to you I just had a quick scoot over the SF going back to the turn of the year (4 pages). A quick glance suggests that roughly half of all the songs posted there are yours, so getting towards 80 separate pieces in 29 days. If I were a SF poster... would I think this a bit excessive? Yes. Would it come across as blatant disregard for anyone else's chances of having their work heard? Yes? Would it seem like you felt your work was somehow more important than anyone else's? Yes. One of the replies here suggests that whoever complained must be one of those thin skinned types who is just jealous because it took them two years to come up with something they felt brave enough to submit for criticism and maybe that's true and maybe it isn't. Anyone who has been around the songs forum long enough will have seen for themselves that there have always been a few that would benefit from a little thickening in the skin department, but also imagine being a regular skinned person who has spent countless hours making something as best as they can before finally plucking up the courage to put it out there only to see it more or less instantly removed from sight by one person constantly posting thread after thread of their own stuff. Unless you are of the tactical bumping types very few threads ever attract any attention once they drop off the first page, so that's your chance of any feedback more or less gone. I have never fully heard any of your compositions, so have no idea how good bad or indifferent they may be or whether I would "learn something" from listening or not, maybe I would maybe I wouldn't, but seeing one person attempting to dominate the forum with their own work was always a sure fire way to make me not listen to any of them, so conversely posting too many threads at a time can be counter productive in regard to the amount of feedback you might get. Again at the same quick glance, roughly half of your many recent posts have 0 replies. Take that how you will, but I would see it as the forum telling me something. You mentioned your age and my first reaction was...so what? Why does your age make any difference? But then I thought...ok maybe you realise that your days on the right side of the grass are likely fewer than some others here and you want to get your work out there quick because who knows, right? Fair enough, but a solution to that could have been to make one thread linking to all of your compositions on your website so if anyone wants to listen to them all, they have them all at their disposal, just like now except there's still plenty of room on each page for Not The Larry Graham Alexander Show. I take your point that you do not do this for personal gain or self promotion and I wonder if this is a reference to whoever complained to you? Whether it is or not, those types are also quite tiresome to me, but I long ago decided that if they are so desperate for attention, then let them have it. "I made a fortune from my time in the Cakewalk forum" said nobody ever. In summary, the way I see it is this........the songs forum works best when everybody who posts their work takes other posters into consideration, be that in terms of occasionally taking an interest in the works of others seeing as you are asking them to do you that favour, or not appearing to look like you think of it as your personal domain. Any behaviour that causes bad feeling really is to the detriment of the entire forum. I don't like petty rules and I don't like those who get a kick out of trying to enforce them because there really shouldn't be a need for rules in something like this. Simple common courtesy should see everything ticking along just fine. There are of course those that can take offence at almost anything, but it seems that there is nothing that can be done about them. At least they are happy in their own way because presumably they get up each day looking for something to be offended by. In this case though, I would say that whoever complained to you maybe has a point? (CH thinks: FFS Paulo the last sentence would have been enough. Can we get please just get back to the becan now?)

What new updates would you like to see in 2020 to Cakewalk - CLOSED.
paulo replied to Will.'s topic in Feedback Loop
Fix the "undo quick unfreeze" bug (makes the track hidden) - drives me nuts that one. Change the track focus behaviour so that unfreezing a synth automatically shifts the focus to that track - a close second to above. Preferably before something happens to prevent updates being installed in w7. -
I doubt that there's anyone here who doesn't have a HD full of such things. In my case even the "finished" ones never really are because I've never done anything where I think.....Y'know what? That really couldn't be any better. A while back when something or other occurred that reminded me of the constantly perilous state of my own existence I thought that maybe I should go through my HD and delete the very worst offenders in case I die unexpectedly and someone ends up hearing them and realises that the ones that are halfway decent clearly exist only due to the law of averages (monkeys and typewriters and all that) and that for some inexplicable reason I spent half my life doing something I wasn't much good at, but then I remembered that it's hard enough to get anyone to listen when I'm alive, so somebody poring over them when I'm gone is probably not something I need be too concerned about.

v1 works ok for me, but I hadn't even attempted to use V2 since Platinum 32 bit days, so out of curiosity yesterday I tried it in Cakewalk 2019.09 and if it's any consolation to you although I can load it fine and the UI comes up, I can't get it to make a sound. Pick any preset - nothing. Tried it in 64 bit Platinum and it's the same. 32 bit Platinum still works though - in the sense that it makes the sounds. I didn't test it for long enough to see how long it took for the arp function to stop working again. Standalone 64 also worked with the same caveat. For the hell of it I tried a reinstall, which I've no doubt done before and unsurprisingly nothing changed so I guess that if I really wanted to use it I could open whatever project in Plat 32 and do it there - as long as it's not something that is going to depend on the arp. Maybe this would work for you. Personally, I can't be bothered to have to faff around like that when I have other options that just work. As for the dll not being picked up, when I have had this kind of problem with other synths I moved the dll to it's own folder and added that to the scan path and that sometimes works. No idea why it should make any difference.

audio plugin deals APD Offer: 83% OFF Production Voices SFZ Piano Bundle
paulo replied to Audio Plugin Deals's topic in Deals
Here's how I see it... Marketing = Lies. Bear this simple equation in mind when considering a purchase and just ask yourself if you are happy to pay the current price or not and then act accordingly.- 9 replies

Wow. Øyvind actually scrubs up pretty well. Who'da thunk it? Seriously, that video is fantastic. It's like an advert for happiness. Long may it last. ?

Skins don't solve the problem for me. It's more a question of workflow and layout. For me Cakewalk beats it all day every day in that respect. .

The 1970's just called and asked for their idea back. ;)

Long time ago now, but IIRC I had a similar problem with UJAM products in the usual VST location (the dll's were there but the scan ignored them for some reason) and had to move them to their own folder and add that to the VST scan path and then they were picked up. No idea of why it made it should make any difference, but might be worth a try.

Got it but never use it. The arp function was flaky and even though there was an update patch issued that was supposed to have fixed the issue (it would drop out all the time and just play single notes). When I told CW that the problem persisted after the fix somebody replied and said that they were unaware of the issue and couldn't reproduce it. I asked them in that case why did they just issue a fix for an issue that "didn't exist" and they never replied. Sadly fairly typical of CW support back then. I am surprised that bandlab haven't re-released some of the CW synths though. IIRC at the time of the takeover it was said that they would probably be released as a paid add on in the fullness of time but maybe they don't have the resources available to fix them. If the free software has issues nobody can really complain too much, but if they start selling stuff with known glitches I guess that opens up a whole new can of worms that might be best avoided.

There you have it folks, after many years of speculation that craigb wasn't his real name, now we know........it's craigvE.

I sometimes have a similar thing happen but during payback rather than export. Nothing to do with ARS or your I/O because I have neither. I've never managed to narrow it down to a specific circumstance other than it's always the last thing I did (obvs). Sometimes it's a plug-in, sometimes freezing a synth. If it's a plug-in then removing it solves the problem, if a freeze then unfreezing and refreezing usually cures it but not always. On one occasion I had to copy the synth/midi to a new project, freeze it there and the import the audio back into the first project.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't take to it despite what was a killer deal at the time.
