I plan to discontinue my membership with Bandlab temporarily until a promo comes along that I can take advantage of sometime in the future. When I do that I would like Sonar to be removed from my system leaving only Cakewalk by Bandlab. When I check the product center all I see listed is Cakewalk Next (which I haven't even installed) and Cakewalk by Bandlab, which I want to keep. What do I need to do to uninstall Sonar? I could probably do it via Windows Add/Remove programs but I don't want to take the chance of making it difficult to reinstall it later if I would rejoin Bandlab. Thanks ?John B

Craig and also perhaps Scott Garrigus ?

Excellent idea! The "homemade" tutorials suck for the most part. John's are among the few decent ones. ?John B

Current BandLab membership sale is still on at $112 per year
Johnbee58 replied to Noel Borthwick's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
Can you switch over if you're currently paying for monthly? I just made the payment for July. ?John B -
They gave it to us for free for 6 years prior. My hope is that they will add such enhanced features to Sonar that we will want to subscribe. I'm hoping that but it doesn't mean it will come to pass.

You know, this might be the same situation with the Bluetube Nomad effects. Back in 2018 when I first installed the free CbB I uninstalled X3 because I thought I wouldn't need it anymore but soon I took notice that those plugins weren't there. I asked tech support here and was told that I needed to reinstall X3. When I did I regained access to the Nomads. ?John B EDIT-I should say I GAINED access to the Nomads in CbB. Just to clarify. ?

I'm curious. You people don't seem to have much faith in that they tell us Cakewalk by Bandlab will remain FREE indefinitely. So why such discontent? If you don't want to pay the sub DON'T! You won't be any worse off than you have been for the past 7 years. Is there something you're worried about in this deal? Just curious. ?John B PS I don't know about anybody else but I just got an update this morning for CbB. That tells me the future for it is pretty secure for now at least.

Don't bother racking your brains. I figured it out. The main tempo of the song is 76 BPM. At the end I slowed the last 2 bars down to 74. For some reason when I went back to the beginning of the MIDI project it kept 74 BPM and didn't go back to 76. When I transferred the MIDI from the MIDI project to the final WAV project the MIDI was at 74 and needed to be at 76. So when I changed the MIDI project to 76 where it belongs at that point it corrected the situation. Thanks anyway. ?John B

On occasion I like to use a ritardando at the end of a song, maybe the last two or three bars of the piano, bass and drums. I've found that on the last two songs I did that on, upon transferring the MIDI to audio I found that the audio is out of synch by about 1 and a half bars (late). I use the "Insert Tempo Change" in the Process (I think) menu. It works fine in the MIDI but doesn't hold in the audio transfer. Could somebody perhaps suggest why this could be happening. This happens in CbB but translates to Sonar. Thanks ?John B

Does Anybody Know What Asset Files Are?
Johnbee58 replied to Johnbee58's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
There's still one little mystery though. Why did these file only become visible after they were uploaded to a cloud storage service? I didn't see them before I put them up there. And they are NOT Hidden. They're out in the open. Not worrisome anymore but something a bit more to ponder for those who like to solve mysteries. ? ?JB -
Does Anybody Know What Asset Files Are?

Thanks all. The strange thing is that I don't see these files before I upload them to IDrive, only after. At first I thought it was something the IDrive app was adding but the tech support guy said no. It's Cakewalk. I'm gonna delete them. They just cause too much confusion in the final storage. Thanks again ?John B -
I don't know why some people are still so concerned about this. They laid out the plan yesterday and it seems to be good news. Relax people! ?John B

Thanks. I'll give this a try. ?John B -
I guess this would be a question for a programmer. I upload my work to a cloud storage service. I re downloaded a project recently and it came back OK but it was loaded with files with the extension .assets. They seem to be duplicates of the .cwp files in the main folder. I can't open these asset files. I don't have the app needed for them (whatever that is). I asked IDrives tech support why they are being generated. I sent him one for analysis and he said they are generated by the Cakewalk app. All I need to know is can I get rid of them without adversely affecting the .cwp files which seem to open OK. Thanks John B?

I agree that I'd like to see the UI improve with more theme options. ?

CbB does pretty much what I need it to do at the point where it is now but I'm still going to hang onto the membership for a little while anyway. Who knows what kind of improvements they're working on for the future? Also, the "Digital Leash to Singapore" might be the only way they will be able to keep the CbB maintenance updates going on to insure continuity in case ms changes something. I don't think that will be an issue for a while. We have options now and we know them. That's good news. ?John B

I'd say don't jump ship just yet. My initial reaction was just like yours but I have a feeling this isn't written in stone yet. I think a lot of us are getting hung up on the word "exclusively". Things can still change. I plan on watching and waiting for a few months anyway. But hey! Everybody's gotta do what they feel they gotta do. Good luck in whatever you decide. ?John B

Cakewalk now exclusively available through BandLab Membership
Johnbee58 replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
Don't get too bummed out by the word "exclusively". That could just be for now. They could change that very easily. I'm gonna hang tight and just watch what happens ?John B -
Go to Bandlab.com. Make sure you're logged in Go to Account ID. Pull down to Settings Click on Memberships You will see Cancel Membership on upper right ?John B

I've been using IDrive since January 2023. I use it as an extra backup of mainly my music project files in the unlikely event that my disc drive backups will fail or if a catastrophe of any kind would happen. I can replace a PC or even a house but my projects take hours of time that can never be replaced. Anyway-IDrive worked perfectly all of 2023. This year its been failing by frequent incomplete backups that I have to sometimes painstakingly coax to get them to the full folder content. Their tech support are very nice people but are at a loss in helping me. One thing they suggested is that my network modem should be able to be of consistent speed to handle this. It occurred to me that I replaced the modem this year by Comcast's recommendation. It is slower in other respects too and I'm beginning to think that the modem is the culprit. Comcast is terrible especially in the tech support department. I'm just wondering if anybody else here has similar issues with this kind of thing and can give me some insight. Thanks ?John B

I can't if I can't afford a DAW. I was hoping I could buy the thing outright before my Medicare makes it impossible for me to afford anything else. I'm hearing "big premium increases in the works for 2025!" and all other horror stories. Inflation is making everything more expensive and I'm on a fixed income. I'm getting by fairly comfortably now but you don't get raises when you're retired and if costs keep going up I won't be able to afford many luxuries. I was thinking how difficult it would be to shell out several hundred $$$$$$ now anyway. I just had to pay almost $2000.00 to fix my car's AC and dental issues (and expenses) are looming up on me. It's not a good time for me right now and the outlook for the futures isn't much better. I'm really kind of glad for the membership thing anyway. $15.00 a month I can handle now. $500.00 or higher would be more difficult. Thanks for your thoughts though. If nothing else I guess I could always use Reaper if necessary. ?

How much system memory do you have? That might be part of the issue. Oh, I see. 16 Gigs. You may want to up that to at least 32. ?John B

People who can't keep their word aren't worth doing business with. I think I'll start shopping around. John B EDIT-Actually, I'm rethinking that. I'm kind of mixed feelings now. I did the math and if they set a price for a perpetual license of say $500.00, $15.00 per month would get you to about 33 months or 3 months short of 3 years. If it was a "rent to buy" type of thing where you would own it after 33 months I could live with that. It would be a bit hard for me to put out a large amount of money right now anyway. This would be easier on the budget. Maybe I will hang on and see what (if anything) will happen in the future. Probably in 3 years (when I'm 72) i'll be ready to call it quits with music making anyway, if not sooner. ?John B

I tried what you suggested. It worked. But I found that if I just X off the interface view of the CLA NX that also works. The thing is I just can't have the CLA NX minimized and be able to see the strip at the same time. I have to disable the CLA NX view, which doesn't disable the plugin. If I want to see it I just have to click on it on the Master channel. Thanks ?John B

Thanks Dave! I'll try that next session. ?John B
