  1. Although EZD has many great features, I also prefer AD2. The main reason I also bought EZD was because of its Tap2Find feature, which I find pretty convenient. Also, the MIDI Drop Zone in EZD can be used as a target when dragging MIDI from e.g. AD2. Unfortunately, EZD doesn’t have a mapping function for other drum plugins (the only software map option is General MIDI), so it can be a hit-and-miss.

My workaround has been Toontrack EZplayer Pro, which I managed to buy before it was discontinued. It has an extensive mapping feature, including AD2 > EZD. Heck, it even has Cakewalk > EZD mapping, for those who might need it.

  2. I have AD2, EZD2 and EZD3. I think they’re all great. The fact that AD2 hasn’t been updated in the last years is to me of less importance; the 21 drums kits, 14 additional kit pieces and 32 MIDI packs available should cover most genres.

As for MIDI packs, if you indeed want more MIDI in AD2, you can always buy MIDI packs from Toontrack and use them with AD2. To do that, in the AD2 Hamburger menu, just change the default mapping to EZD by selecting Map Window > Map Preset > Other Plugins >  TT – EZ. You don't even have to go through your DAW; just drag the MIDI from EZD right into the BEATS tab in AD2. And hey presto. Of course, for this to work you'd also need EZD installed.

So! Any updates from the company? I'm trying to figure out what my next move is.

A few suggestions: lean back in your chair, keep making music, enjoy CbB, have a beer (or two), walk the dog if you’ve got one, come back, put on your slippers and make some more music. It’s totally free of charge.

Rest assured that information will come the day Sonar is ready.

  4. I’ve never before seen Softube TSAR-1R Reverb go below $39 so maybe this is the time for me to get it. What’s especially interesting for Cakewalk users is that TSAR-1R includes a ProChannel module embedded in the VST2 dll, although versions newer than 2.5.46 will crash CbB.

Still, I have a dedicated TSAR-1R 2.5.46 installer around somewhere, courtesy of Softube support, so that shouldn’t stop me.

  5. Both Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt comes in both executable and plugin form.  As you want them to interact with CbB, you need to use the VST plugins, and not the executables. The plugins will show up in the plugin browser, provided that

    1. You've got the paths to your NI plugins (VST2 and/or VST3) included in Edit > Preferences > File > VST Settings | VST Scan Paths
    2. You've run a plugin rescan, either manual or automatic.

OK so it seem the only ones mentioned all use Kontakt paid version right?

No, not really. I mentioned an instrument which runs inside Soundpaint, which is free.

  7. I have no experience of Musescore, but I do have both UVI Workstation and UVI Orchestral Suite. If you have inserted the MIDI from Musescore into CbB, it should be, just as John said, a matter of assigning each MIDI track to a unique MIDI channel, say 1-5, each containing a different instrument. There are actually two ways to do this in UVI Workstation; you can have a separate instance of UVI Workstation on each track, each with its own instrument, or you can setup a multi containing all instruments in one single instance. I will explain the less intuitive option here, the Multi, as separate instances on each track are pretty straight-forward.

In my example below I have loaded Orchestral Suite, clicked on MULTI and in the slots available chosen the instruments I want to use. There are four default slots but you can add additional slots by clicking the Plus button. In my example, I have added one additional slot, or a total of five. You can have up to 16 MIDI channels.

The receiving MIDI channels (in my example MIDI channel 1-5, called A1-A5) will be increased automatically for each slot, but you can always change that if needed. In MULTI you can also change volume, pan etc. for each instrument.

Finally, you go to the MAIN tab and make adjustments such as selecting articulation for each instrument. I my example I have selected Bass Wheel > Sustain. Articulations can be changed over time through the red key switches on the left (A-1 to G#-1). Effects are added in the EFFECTS tab, if needed.

Of course, as I have no idea your level of experience, I may have said thing you find very basic.

    Good luck.

The missing VST3s are all in the common files folder as they should be but don't scan.

One...the new G-Force M-Tron has a weird suffix...not "dll" which I figure is it's problem.  But the new Fab Filter L2 upgrade has the usual . dll suffix but still doesn't scan.

VST3 plugins have the file extension "vst3" and not "dll". DLL files placed in the Common Files\VST3 folder are by design not scanned by CbB, as they potentially are VST2 plugins. Maybe what you believe are VST3 plugins in fact are VST2?

    Just my two cents.

I believe the old Command Center has been dismantled completely. When I try to log on, I get a "No Internet Connection Found," when I have a good connection. Go figure.

As I explained above, you need the updated Cakewalk Command Center. It was updated in 2023 just because the authorization server was changed.

  10. To elaborate on Will’s answer; if you own Dimension Pro and/or Z3ta/Z3ta+, you can use Cakewalk Command Center to download and install. However, you will need the updated CCC version 1.1.8.1 to be able to activate them. If you don’t already own them, you’re out of luck; they are no longer available for purchase.

If you by Softube stuff mean the plugins that also worked as ProChannel modules (Passive-Active Pack, FET Compressor and TSAR-1R), all Softube's ProChannel versions after version 2.5.46 unfortunately makes Cakewalk crash when invoked. Also, as for FET Compressor, it has been updated to version Mk II and I don’t think that version supports ProChannel.

  11. Well, to be fair, if it hadn’t been for this thread, I wouldn’t have known the fax number to Thomann.

Incidentally, is there a way to show both Audio FX plugins and Instrument plugins at the same time?

    Not that I know of.

Besides, as your number of plugins increase over time, you will start to appreciate that you only see effects or instruments, and not both. Also, I personally keep my Instrument custom layout structured by developer, while my Effect custom layout is structured by type of effect. That works well for me.
