  1. So did I without any major problems, but I went up from 1909. Bear in mind that not everyone's system config is the same, so YMMV. I still had a few activation issues with some 3rd party plugins and applications (the system ID changes with each Windows version number), but they were easily resolved. And the system tray icon for my audio interface always goes missing after an upgrade. But nothing a repair install for that can't fix.
  2. The major Windows 10 feature updates are actually Windows UPGRADES. Expect to have to make some adjustments to some drivers, settings, activations, etc. afterwards. Best plan is to make a system disk image before running the update, so that you have an easy method of rolling back (just restore the image). Just in case you find too many issues and would like some more time to research them.
  3. I purchased it way back in the day, so never noticed whether or not it ever got bundled with Sonar. That makes sense.
  4. Yep, it was a 32-bit DX. I wonder why it was dropped, other than not being compatible with Sonar x64? The Audio FX1 and FX2 were still available in the Sonar Producer X1-X3 series. I opened up those installers yesterday out of curiosity in search of it, but no FX3.
  5. It's only $5 to upgrade from the Fathom Pro 2.x versions. 3.1 is a point upgrade for the 3.0 release.

    chord track

Doing pitch changes with audio tracks is probably best left to a "scratch" version of the project, due to potential artifacts of time stretching the pitches. When the desired harmonic end result is arrived at, it would probably be best to re-record the audio tracks for the final mixdown anyway.

    IK VI Group Buy

Probably not for the MODO Bass SE or MODO Drums SE. The crossgrades for the full versions are only $50 more. But you get a lot less content with each of those SE versions. However, with SampleTank4 SE you get the new, improved interface, and even though you get way less new instruments, if you already have any ST3, Syntronik, or Miroslav instruments (or plan to get them) they are fully functional in the all new ST4 interface. So I would probably be OK with SE for that one. Plus it saves you having to download hundreds of GBs of new content. ?
  8. I think you are probably remembering this one. I used to have a copy of it, but it no longer resides in my current Cake archives that only goes back about 20 years. Seemed pretty advanced at the time...?

    chord track

Doing it internally in the DAW would be the preferred method. That way any changes to the chord track would be applied instantly to all tracks in the project, keeping the entire song harmonically intact. That way the DAW is functioning globally as a sort of "Scaler", and any track can follow that chord track. Suggest watching some video tutorials of PreSonus Studio One Pro 4+ to see this feature in action, as they explain it much better than I could. Plus they have it working already. What I have seen with plugins, is they are specific to the track you are working with. That seems fine for the early stages of songwriting, but a global track would be more useful for re-harmonizing an existing multi-track arrangement.
  10. FYI, I have found that Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol works as a lightweight MIDI patch point. Some may already have this one, but it is included as a freebie in the free Komplete Start bundle... https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-kontrol/ You don't even need to load any instruments in KK to use it this way. Insert KK, then route your MIDI track to KK, and then set all of the other VST instruments to KK as input and set MIDI Echo on for those tracks. Done! And yes, the LoopBe virtual MIDI cable works fine too, for connecting multiple MIDI outputs! Another fine freebie! Set the virtual output on the MIDI track, and then the virtual input on your virtual instruments that you wish to stack.

    chord track

I think the first thing a chord track needs to be able to do is chord recognition. MIDI track - simple! Play the chords in from your MIDI controller, and the chord track shows the chords played based on the data in the MIDI track. Or reads them in from any existing MIDI track. Alternatively, if there is a circle of fifths feature added to the chord track, you could play a MIDI part for example, with only Cmaj, or whatever chord you choose, over and over. That would establish a basic chord track, but with the rhythm you want, then use the circle of fifths selector to change the chords to the ones you really want. Probably better if you can actually play, but either way should work. Audio track - more difficult, but possible. Chord recognition from audio can be hit or miss, depending on the source material, and can still require some editing and tweaking of the result. It would help if you already knew the chords for the song in order to easily spot and correct any errors.
  12. I downloaded Pendulate after I saw the release video for Generate. The leads sound really cool if you run them thru Eventide Blackhole... ☺️
  13. Last I heard CAL scripts are no longer really supported. They are still there for those that know about them, well because some folks still use them and they still work. But the feature is no longer under active development, and it's been that way for a long, long time. A modern scripting language would be nice, though. But perhaps if it is too ambitious for the current development resources to implement a full new scripting tool, then I would agree it would be nice to have the most important MIDI functions that CAL supports built directly into the DAW.

  15. I was thinking about getting an Arturia Keylab to control just my Arturia plugins due to the dedicated integration with the plugins, but don't have high hopes for making it control the Cakewalk DAW. Arturia claims that it has a "DAW" mode that supports your favorite DAWs. Cakewalk has never really had good native integrated support for 3rd party control surfaces. Will probably fall somewhere under "custom" in this case. As in manual setup required. Forum member @azslow3has created some custom control surface utilities for Sonar/Cakewalk, and is probably the best person to get in touch with regarding this, especially for his knowledge of Cakewalk's limitations and shortcomings in this department. Arturia covers instructions here for using control surface mappings with Keylab in your favorite DAW. 16. I wish I could list every tweak that I have done to Win 10, but I have been running the same copy for over 4 years. Now it is a well oiled machine that mostly does what I want it to. But I've been chipping away at it, bit by bit. A learning curve! ???
  17. I don't use any tools other than the Win 10 settings, registry editor, or since I have Win10 Pro, I also use the GP editor. I don't fully trust 3rd party tools, because they usually mess with the registry under the hood. I prefer to make changes to that manually with a registry backup first.
  18. And a disclaimer about any article on Win 10 settings: thanks to Microsoft the Win 10 settings are moving target, so depending on when the article was written, certain options may have moved, combined, or separated, so may not appear exactly the same in your version of Win 10. But the principles remain the same, although you may have to use Google to find the answer to your specifics...

  21. Just loaded and saved, and then reopened a new project with Waves Scheps Omni Channel v10.0.62.38, VST3 without issue. Running the latest Cakewalk 2020.09 here on Win10 Pro 2004 x64, with patch updates thru August 2020. Deferring September Win10 updates for a few more weeks. I would try re-installing Scheps, or else see what Waves support says. They are usually very responsive.
  22. Microsoft has a compatibility hold for PCs that they will not offer Win10 2004 to. Apparently there are some hardware configurations that they are aware of issues with. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-10-2004-list-of-compatibility-issues-blocking-updates/
  23. You're right, it's there. Too awkward to scroll to the bottom for that one. (As in I have a long list of synths, so didn't notice that hanging waaaaaay down the list). Agree that it needs its own tab or something... @Noel Borthwickthis looks like an easy one!
  24. I recently picked up the Waves IR 1 Convolution Reverb, and it is fun exploring the different room responses. It comes with a 4.8GB library with over 100 impulse responses of spaces and devices. For those only familiar with algorithmic reverbs, these impulse responses are actual recordings of the sonic characteristics of these spaces. It's currently on sale at Waves for $29.99. https://www.waves.com/plugins/ir1-convolution-reverb
