  1. If you like the Korg system, the (virtual) Triton is probably the way to go in 2020. Or if totally retro is your desire, then probably the M1. I owned the Korg X2 workstation (released 1993) back in the 90's. AI2 synthesis. Many of the sounds in the X2 are derived from the T3 and 01/W synthesizers. The larger sound ROM includes a 2MB multisampled piano.
  2. You might find something here > https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/kc_triton/
  3. I had some issues when trying to export MIDI from Waveform to Cakewalk. MIDI type 1 export seemed messed up in Waveform at the time. Haven't tried it lately, maybe it has improved. Was trying to take advantage of the pattern generators, and then bring MIDI patterns over to Cakewalk. Ended up having to use Reaper as an import/export middleman to get the Waveform MIDI track where Cakewalk could use it correctly by splitting out the individual tracks. I like how Reaper asks on import how you want to handle the tracks. Reaper is like a swiss army knife.
  4. I've had some version of it on my PC since CorelDraw 3. Probably even before I got started with Cakewalk Professional 6. Windows 95, and Pentium 1, those were the days, LOL!!!
  5. Yes, I bit on that level after I saw the new enhancements to Painter 2020. It would have cost me $229 to upgrade to from 2019 to 2021 at Corel. So Painter 2020 for $30 will work just fine for me! Thanks Humble!
  6. A discrete GPU is not required to run Cakewalk well. In fact it can even interfere if the drivers are problematic. I only use the humble integrated Intel HD graphics that my CPU provides. Smooth as butter.
  7. Same wish here! I think I got in on the last round of upgrade pricing offered for a perpetual CorelDraw Suite 2019 license. Now your only options are to either buy the latest version outright for full price of $424 (currently discounted from $499), or rent it. https://www.coreldraw.com/en/product/coreldraw/
  8. Yep, at least spend a buck ($1) and unlock Aftershot 3 if you are a digital photographer! It is an Adobe Lightroom clone where you can import and make quick or detailed adjustments to your latest camera roll, aka a digital darkroom. Tutorial videos: https://learn.corel.com/photo-tutorials/raw-photo-editing/aftershot-pro-tutorials/ The next level at $26.56 will get you PaintShop Pro 2020. If you need a photo editor, this is a good alternative for avoiding a subscription to an Adobe Photoshop cloud subscription. Tutorial videos: https://learn.corel.com/photo-tutorials/paintshop-pro-tutorials/paintshop-pro-2019-tutorials/ The top $30 level will get you Corel CAD 2019, Corel Painter 2020, and a subscription to CorelDraw Graphics Suite 2020. I'm not crazy about subscription models so I was surprised to see this. My first reaction was wow, a cheap upgrade for CorelDraw! I have a perpetual license for CorelDraw Graphics Suite 2019 and so I'll stick with that. It's a good substitute for Adobe Illustrator for making vector graphics drawings, and doing page layouts with text and images for output to web, PDF, or print. The suite comes with an integrated bitmap photo editor called Corel PhotoPaint. Tutorial videos: https://www.coreldraw.com/en/learn/tutorials/?topNav=en I got Corel Painter 2019 with an earlier Humble Bundle, and that might appeal to the creative types who want to try digital painting. It's good tool for "painterizing" your digital photos, or creating a digital painting from scratch. A digital art tablet with stylus like the Wacom models is highly recommended for this activity, although you can use a mouse. The digital brushes in Painter and their effects are amazing! Computer shuts down?

If it's a power issue, I would swap in a new power supply. I assume that you have a way of monitoring CPU and GPU temps, as well as fan RPMs and have ruled out overheating?
  10. In addition to providing system specs and audio hardware in use, I would also list any and all of the plugins used in the project, because sometimes they can cause this behavior. And preferably start a new thread, because it may seem like you may have the same problem, but there can be many different causes of "slow" in a DAW, and it is difficult to troubleshoot all of them in a single thread. Jumping in with a "me too" post on the tail end of an existing thread is not the best way to get help.
  11. While still recording, you don't want to use linear phase plug-ins with a look ahead buffer enabled anywhere in your project. Linear phase is designed for the mixing/mastering phase of a project. Linear phase deliberately induces latency. That is the way it works, because it needs to buffer in order to look ahead. In Cakewalk LPEQ for example, you can disable the LP mode and use it as a regular EQ, but in other similar plug-ins you probably should disable or remove them until ready to mix.
  12. Finally, my metal ray is complete! I have always been thinking it would be nice to have fingers. Thanks!
  13. Hey @Peter - IK Multimedia, I sincerely appreciate your generous offer! But don't worry about that buck! I took that one, plus many, many more back when I cleaned up at the $199 level for the Group Buy. Would almost feel guilty taking any more! ? But seriously, I really think IK has scored big with this new product! I'm really liking it. But not having as much fun yet as Zo!
  14. IK only let me use 44 JamPoints. So $106 here.
  15. It will still be the same Windows 10 install and hard drives. Just changing hardware, not the drives. I would move the licenses if I could but the motherboard died suddenly.
  16. I am getting ready to upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and RAM. But keep Windows 10 and the same drives. I wonder if I will have any issues with Waves (or iLok) activations afterwards? The drives will remain exactly as they are, except maybe some new drivers.
  17. When it happened to me, Waves support sent me a link to the support page for how to reset your licenses yourself. Only works once a year though.

Only 1779 more to go, with 4 days left...
  19. Other than Pigments 2 (highly recommended), which I got for less than $99 at PIB by using up some virtual cash there, I only have the Analog Lab as far as Arturia goes. The Lab is an amazing collection of sounds. Wish I had gotten that sooner! So much so that I am even considering springing for one of their KeyLab keyboards to get tactile access to those knob and slider controls! Ah, love the smell of GAS in the morning...
  20. The Shofuku Carts are for the DX7 V. But any sound sets that you purchase should work with both Analog Lab and the full synth that the presets were made for if you have that too. Nori used to do sound design for Yamaha on the original DX-7 synth.

Yup! If IK had it listed as $199, that's what you get credit for in the group buy, regardless of what you actually paid for it at a 3rd party distributor. Pays to shop around!
  22. Good advice! I always uninstall my 3rd party AV, and let Windows Defender take over the job prior to any major Windows 10 version updates. Then I just re-install my AV afterwards, and Defender quietly goes back to sleep. There have been times that I left my AV running during the Windows update, and then had to battle Defender afterwards when it thought it should still be running!

I wouldn't put backups on SSD. HDD is best for that purpose. And cheaper.

ST4 MAX cost me a new SSD... But it was definitely a worthwhile upgrade because the samples load much faster now compared to my old HDD. ?
