I can't see it ever getting the widespread adoption that Kontakt has with 3rd party libraries, especially as a sub
My impression is that this MEGA Sampler is not intended to be an alternative to Kontakt, with polished multi-sampled instrument libraries. Rather more like the Waves CR8 sampler, with a library subscription that a producer can use to access & drop selected samples into their session. Well suited for DJ style productions, but could actually be used for anything as a sound design tool.
NI should be fine!

Even trying to edit tracks on an old time synth workstation sequencer was difficult. How fun is it to load 'em up and record them into a DAW for editing?!
My frustration with my Korg X2 workstation sequencer is what eventually drove me to acquire my first PC and Cakewalk!
But the Korg did have a cute 3.5" floppy drive that I could load MIDI files that I had downloaded from my work PC at the office. That was fun!

For me, just the FX. None of the instruments had updates.
Same here. Still on V Collection 8 though...

The Staff view was added as more of a reference, I believe.
This statement reminds me of the first time that I gave my parents a demonstration of MIDI playback with Cakewalk (around 25 years ago) during one of their visits.
They were both musicians that could read sheet music, but knew nothing about computers or MIDI.
I put the Cakewalk staff view up on the monitor so that they could (reference) follow along with the song. It didn't take them long to arrive at the assumption that the computer was working like an electronic version of an old time player piano.
So yeah, MIDI data is similar to the little holes punched in paper (the "piano roll") that tells a player piano what notes to play. But that's not very human readable. That's what scores and notation are for.
The advantage with modern DAW "piano rolls" is that modern computer editing tools make them easier to work with.

Here's a handy chart of the Odin2 signal routing from the manual. This synth only takes like 15 minutes to come to terms with, totally intuitive, and great sounding!
Very well done semi-modular synth. Up to 3 oscillators (of any type available) that can be selectively routed to up to 2 filters (of any type available), followed by a an optional 3rd filter that can be inserted after the amplifier stage.

What is Avid going to gain by supporting CLAP? Keep in mind they never adopted VST as a plugin standard.
I guess professional producers using Avid and Cubase will stick with aax and VST3, as the rest of the world moves ahead. Or not. We'll see... only time will tell how this plays out...

Only downside I can see, like others have stated, is the horrible naming.
If the idea was dreamed up by the German folks, it may not have a negative connotation in non-English slang...
In any case, it would not be a huge challenge to optimize the name.

You should consider that many developers have struggled with implementing the VST3 "standard" in a 100% stable and compatible fashion. They are the ones pushing for this change, not end users or management.
This standard appears to be more MIDI 2.0 and MPE friendly. There are no license fees, and if the development costs to write plugins with this method is the same or cheaper, it's a no-brainer for the business. Stay tuned...

Hey bakers... how about supporting CLAP in Cakewalk ? ?
Great idea, but unlikely that the Bakers are reading this thread.
Maybe post it here? https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/8-feedback-loop/

Free synth Odin 2 has been updated to v2.3.3 by the Wave Warden. https://www.thewavewarden.com/odin2
QuoteHey folks,
I just uploaded version 2.3.3 to my homepage
Highlights this time are

A big shout out goes to Baconpaul from team Surge / CLAP. All the name worthy features were implemented by him!
The switch to CMake is a rather big change and I didn't have a lot of time to extensively test things, but today was the deadline. So if you find any issues please let me know.
Full changelog:

- added native M1 Mac support
- much improved UI appearance when using OS display scaling
- switched build system to CMake
- made WinInstaller suitable for systems not mounted on ?
- fixed symbol name clashes for "Knob" and "Filter"

So, I'm assuming that you've already watched the Beatles: Get Back [2021 Mini Series]. Great restored footage, including the Apple Corp rooftop scene!

Is there a noticeable difference when viewing the Fairfax edition?
Are you referring to the Fairfax Vol 1 DEMO, that Larry referenced?
As far as I know that appears to be the only thing that was updated. The full Fairfax is the same as it ever was.

The details were posted this morning in the Kilohearts Discord "news" channel:
QuoteGreat news @everyone! New preview release, version 2.0.5!
This is a preview release which has not been fully tested yet, but you can help! To see it in the installer you have to click on the checkbox labelled "Show preview versions" on the Update tab in the Installer. Please let us know of any problems you encounter.
General
- Fixed crash that occurred when creating "MPE Timbre" and "Pitch Wheel" modulators.
- Fixed stuck notes that could occur when playing while switching presets.
- Fixed the decibels formatter to properly parse "-Inf".
Disperser
- Changed the filter to a more stable implementation which doesn't cause very loud noises when heavily modulated.
VST 3
- Made some improvements for Note Expression (aka MPE) compatibility in Cubase.

I did solve the problem for the moment. I used a different bass plugin and dragged the bass part into that and I don't get the same issue, so it seems it's something to do with Komplete Kontrol.
Then the MIDI Out from Komplete Kontrol could be your issue if you are using Omni input for your other tracks.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a mix of some being sloppy and for some, guerrilla marketing tricks and driving some sales as well.
Sort of a stealth group buy, perhaps?

My thoughts...
-
Your Windows boot drive should be on an SSD. Windows will then boot like a tablet.
- 7200 RPM drives are fine for tracking audio, and archiving projects and installers. Recommend to always make your backups to HDD's as less likely to suddenly fail than SSD. Make backups of your backups.
- Consider loading your large sample libraries (if you have them) from SSD. The sequential read access speed is much, much faster. 7200 RPM HDD is fine for this if you have patience.
- Macrium Reflect free will clone an existing HDD to SSD in one step. Get an external USB adapter cable to connect the new SSD with, and then clone away! After cloning, swap in the new SSD! Simples!

the midi control keyboard maybe.
Run the free MIDI-OX monitor with just the keyboard controller connected to confirm... http://midiox.com/
- View > Input Monitor
- From the Options menu, select MIDI Devices. This will display a new window where you will see the name of your controller in the MIDI Inputs panel. Click on it to select it and then click on OK.
- Once you have returned to the main area, press / turn a control on your MIDI controller. If MIDI OX displays incoming MIDI data, your controller is sending MIDI events correctly into the system.
If you see MIDI events being sent when you are not touching the controller, you have a hardware problem...

I already have T-RackS 5 MAX.
The only new thing that I don't have that I'm interested in is the Fame Studio reverb.
