I'll always remember when a member of VI Control was being bullied, Tracy stepped up. I know he's a talented developer too, but I really came to respect him as a human being.  A total class act.

Did you see Simeon's live stream interview with Tracy?

Well, the FIRST thing that sucks about upgrading to Windows 11 is that it doesn't migrate
your Start Menu programs and groups to the new start menu.  You have do it all manually...Boooooooooooooooo

Why does Microsoft keep insisting on screwing around with the start menu? That's the reason I hated Windows 8. ?

The modern Windows start menu has been very successful since Windows 95, except with Win 8 of course. But they mostly back-tracked that in Windows 10.

Interestingly, Ujam’s Silk allows for a melody and bass line, while Amber apparently doesn’t.

Yes, Amber seems to have a similar UI to Sparkle, which I do have. You would be limited to just the patterns in that case. Unlike the new v2 guitar UI's in Carbon and Iron 2, which have separate instrument (melody) and player (strum) modes.

While NI Strummed Acoustic is $99 full MSRP, you are also just limited to the patterns. Which is why I have to recommend Orange Tree guitars for providing a fully playable virtual guitar instrument, that also includes strum and chord modes for us keyboard guitarists!!! :)

It's completely subjective, and I realize that not everyone is looking at this at the same level-- and this plugin is now dirt cheap -- but as a long time user of guitar sample libraries and someone who's consulted to several guitar sample library developers,  I find the Ujam Virtual Guitarist plugins extremely limited and also the fact that the loops are played in such a precise, no feel, manner, makes them sound really inauthentic for anything except a production where you're looking for robotic sounding rhythm guitar.  I think NI's loop based strumming libraries do a better job. Just my thoughts. I'd be very interested in other's takes.

Probably better to take that $23.20 and put it towards one of Greg's Orange Tree Evolution guitars, that are now approaching the 60% discount in the current group buy! And I am saying this as an owner of several UJAM guitars... I like the UJAM basses, but so far not totally crazy about their guitars.

So at 60% off, you could have the Evolution Songwriter acoustic guitar for $107.40.  https://www.orangetreesamples.com/group-buy

I have 2 Orange Tree guitars and they come with many strum patterns, plus you can create your own patterns and save them as user presets. :)

I would have posted it myself, but I am too lazy to remove some of my earlier maxed out images, to set up a folder somewhere for additional images, apply for and figure out how to use a third-party image hosting site, etc.

    No problem, glad to assist!

On the old Cakewalk forum I used to use Imgur to host my pics for forum posts. That was always an annoying extra hoop to jump thru, IMO.

But since the new forum now allows direct uploads, I use that. The max limit here is usually easy to stay beneath, especially if you use photo editors with "save for web" that allow you to resize and compress files. :)

Thanks for the screenshot!  It jogged my memory and I found the IK page that displays the MixBox SSSR modules. For the time being (until I learn otherwise), I will assume that at most the specific parameters exposed by the MixBox Studio 1 [SSSR-based] modules are the 3*** or 4**** found on the faceplates plus the general slot parameter*.

    • *** pre-delay, decay, mix
    • ****pre-delay, decay, mix, plate 1/plate 2
    •  * slot on/off

Yes, MixBox modules have just the faceplate controls. That is the biggest functional difference between MixBox and T-RackS. The MixBox is simplified, which I find appealing. More like a quick stomp-box approach for dialing in a sound for live play, rather than endless options for mixing.

Here they are, all 5 of them! :)

  8. The only rgc:audio Pentagon that I have installed in my system is the DXi version, located at: "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\Pentagon I\P1DXi.dll". It's version 1.4, copyright 2003.

And Pentagon is working here, with the exception of certain"Simulator" settings available in the UI. I don't recall having to jump through any hoops to get it installed, it just came along for the ride when I installed Sonar.

I mostly stopped using Pentagon years ago. I can understand the need if you have old projects that call for this one, but there are better synth options out there today.

For a decent paid, not free, virtual subtractive analog synth with basic one page controls I would recommend eitherTone2 Saurus 3 or Waves Element 2.

Saurus 3 can be had for $69, and Element 2 is currently on sale for $29.

  9. Novum is $125.30 at Tracktion with JULYFOURTH applied in the cart. JRRshop still has it for $107.40, but discount coupons are not available for this product.

I think the promo prices are supposed to go away next week, resulting in a full price of $179.

Do I understand this correctly? Can we add our already owned Sunset verb into MixBox or should we pay for it?

No. You would need to add your already owned T-RackS Sunset verb as a regular FX in your host.

I purchased the new Sunset verb module collection for MixBox, as I qualified for the $6.99 price since I already owned the T-RackS version.

There was a slight technical snafu with my existing MixBox serial# that prevented my new modules from activating in MixBox. All resolved now by IK support.

P.S. The new MixBox presets are very much worth the $7. ?

Apologies if the solution has been written elsewhere, but can anyone reveal the solution to the greyed out Sunset in Mixbox? I'm suffering from it too!

Opening an IK support ticket was the only way that worked for me. I already had a legit MixBox serial, but IK support had to assign me a new MixBox serial number in order for the Sunset Reverbs to show up as activated. A "workaround" I suppose, until they get this fixed in their system. But regardless, it works now.

Their support team did a great job, even during the weekend, to resolve my issue.

By the way, the new presets are worth it! They are "Rack" presets that combine the selected Sunset module with other MixBox modules to create an interesting FX chain. :)

@Cookie Jarvis Did you source all the parts for your PC from the same retailer? If so, which one. I starting to plan my new PC Desktop upgrade but was considering staying with a single retailer (like Newegg) and using their 3rd part assembly option for $100, since I have never built a PC from scratch, I'm just a parts swapper.

You may want to check with @Jim Roseberryhere on the Cakewalk Forum. His company builds custom PC's specifically for DAW use. He has been at it for many years and knows what he is doing. https://www.studiocat.com/

NOLAGuy, I just used Amazon as I get 5% back with my Amazon Chase card ;)  I just installed Win 11 and drivers tonight...tomorrow the Presonus and MOTU units. This is the easy stuff, the fun part's going to be the software moves... then sata moves and that should be it....for now ;) Oh, and with my Prime membership everything came quick!

    Bill

Yep, that Amazon Prime Chase card pretty much pays for your annual Prime membership with 5% back! Plus you get free Prime 2-day shipping, and easy returns!

What's not to like about that! :)

In hindsight, I think it may have been easier to use abacab's idea and try the Indiginus' Renegade Acoustic.

Tracy Collins of Indiginus seems like an outstanding nice guy! I have bought several of his libraries. Here is an interview with him in one of Simeon Amburgey's live streams. Very interesting, as Tracy recounts the early days of sampling, and more! :)

"Tracy Collins, the founder of Indiginus, has been creating sample libraries long before the introduction of Kontakt. My introduction to his libraries came with IK Multimedia's THE RESONATOR, and I had to find out more about this developer and the other instruments he has produced. Join me as we will meet the man behind Indiginus and discover a few of his amazing and playable libraries. We will also be highlighting Indiginus' latest library "The Fiddle", which carries on the tradition of playability, emotion, and value"
