Yes, but I hate that they only support an installation option via their portal! It is such a hassle! ? Maybe I will pass on the update because of this. It is also the reason why I would never buy a UVI product. In any case, I've noticed that authorization and installation is more and more a buy or not to buy argument for me! With regard to UVI I think it is perverse to have online installation only and iLok authorization! IMO this fits absolutely not together.

And as long as it is Swiss, French or Danish cheese, not Dutch plastic cheese! ?

It is a nice article. On the other hand it is very partial, taking sides with the developers only! I am only working on Windows. I have plugins that are more than 10 years old and they still run without trouble (on W7/W10)! So why should I pay for Apple development? I agree that in such cases the customers (Apple lovers) should pay for it, but the problem is that usual bug fixes (very few) and the Apple compatibility is mixed. Concerning software there are other things to think about. If someone creates a product with obvious problems, then why should the customer pay for correction? Also the automotive industry had to do free upgrades if they tampered something.

It's as usual. The last 2 years you could ignore most of the plugin updates when your OS is Windows! ?

To put in my twopenn'orth: I prefer to install plugins not having an own preset system (like most PA plugins) as VST2, because in some hosts like CbB it is very inconvenient to use VST3 presets for them! Also, there are some hosts that still do not support VST3 (older ones any way).

The authorization system of most big players is terrible! I don't know how many hours I wasted with such stuff! But I agree that PA is really not the worst one in this area (they authorize all plugins at once, have a simple offline authorization, and if a machine goes belly up, you are not lost)! Yesterday I wanted to insert a plugin in CbB and immediately the system was hanging. I couldn't do nothing about it, I had to force a close of CbB. Then suddenly an error message of Waves appeared that the USB could not be opened. It seems I hit the wrong plugin (I have only 2 Waves one installed), so I was not aware what was happening. I may have lost an hour of my life! ? There are several small developers that have really quality plugins and a user-friendly authorization (like Toneboosters, Klanghelm, ...)! Melda: I don't get warm with their plugin interfaces and don't like their installation process (monolith). On the other hand they have a good authorization and update commitment.

Like this, I do not shed any tears over this farewell! ?

Dirk Ulrich stepping down as CEO of Plugin Alliance
marcL replied to Yan Filiatrault's topic in Deals
I question if it is positive that a company makes business disregarding all political and etic views! But YMMV! -
Another compressor! But I have already more than 60 compressors! ?
-
Oh, no, no! Not an additional one! ? Frankly, I don't like the Arturia effects, because they are so heavy on cpu and slow to open! One of the saturation units I like most is Klanghelm SDRR2, it's very powerful. But as I have that many saturation possibilities, I have not yet played enough with all of them!

I really like this instrument, sounds great!

D16 Group (Slate Digital) Repeater Delay only 45$ at JRR shop. https://www.jrrshop.com/slate-digital-repeater As I had waited too long for a good PSP 85 or PSP 42 deal, I could not resist for the D16 Repeater, purchased!

Thanks, interesting! ? But if I open the store overview, then it is not present anymore!

Is Cakewalk available which will run on W7 or W8?
marcL replied to Xenophon's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The current version runs properly on W7. But AFAIK BandLab tests it only on W10 and W11. -
I always waited for the PSP 85 going on sale! Now they took it from the shop! ? I would have preferred the PSP 85 compared to the new knob-monster! ?

Frankly, how many saturators and tape emulations are around now? I have more than 40 such plugins and most of them have much better control possibilities! And there are also freebies and cheap ones in my list. But YMMV!
-
They had much better freebies in the past! I pass!

Frankly, OTS may have great sample libraries, but unfortunately they're not in my price range! Thus I don't have an account!

Maybe you are right, but in the documentation they state that it is a "dynamics tool" and yes you can do some fine adjustments with the different modes and controls. With my short, rudimentary tests with drums and bass guitar I found that it is much easier with Trackspacer to achieve satisfying results. With VoxDucker it needs some more effort, some fine tuning, but it is also effective. And by the way I also tested with TB_Compressor v4 (I read that you also own it) and side chain input and IMO you can achieve almost the same result as with VoxDucker (with Drums and Bass by all means).
-
AFAIK Trackspacer is EQ-based where as VoxDucker is a sidechain compressor. But both concepts can have a great effect for reducing conflicts with instruments with concurrent frequencies. On the other hand I am convinced that there is no way to sail round manual frequency reduction with competing instruments to achieve a great mix! Yesterday I listened to the great mixes of St. Peppers and I said to me "Hey man, your own songs are too busy! There are many great tracks, but it's too much!" I think it all starts with the arrangement and those "ducker" tools maybe great, but in the end they do not really help to solve the problem! (But I have to admit that I purchased both, 'cause there are situations where they may help ?).

+1 I think either they use a random system or they discriminate against some countries (EU)!

I have 9 Boz plugins and I got an email with the title "FREE Major Update", but in the contents it says update price is $10 for me! I am really tired of paying for fxxxing Apple updates!!!! I guess that the last years 50% of the update development for plugins has been invested in this one-sided stuff! And all the Windows users should pay for it! Also some new stuff has increased prices because of it! I hate APPLE (even don't eat any apples anymore)!!! I am also sure that there have been bugs, because of the A stuff!

In the 80s I purchased a TR-707 and I had it until 2011. Was great at that time, but today I prefer VSTi's! ?
-
Absolutely true! ? With a new major version the risk is even higher that's what I wanted to say. I prefer to do it manually if required! But in most cases I avoid to do such changes in old projects. I've lost settings even without changing the plugin versions (and of course with the VST3 change, too ?). You are a lucky one! ?
