What has happened to Cakewalk Google search results
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's question in Q&A
Maybe they forgot to renew? I lost my domain name for the same reason, nicked by an internet parasite. ( sorry, "entrepreneur") -
Odd thing today; being a novice I spend loads of time Googling Cakewalk queries, ( conscious of my ignorance on everything I try not to bother the forum) but today, up comes this site each time ( screenshot) its never happened before. is it a browser issue? The site looks to be genuine but its a portal not a proper search query returned? And its useless at returning a result which matches my query...odd.

My Juno DS triggers all plugins at the same time
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes, I see. I am using the keyboard to send MIDI messages ( I think!). I will try what you suggest, if its too m much for me I will continue as I am. As a songwriter / musician I have to be careful not to spend all my time fixing stuff, much as I'd love to learn it all from more experienced users. -
Hi all Okay, dumb question time, but its not something I can figure out. I use my Juno DS to trigger my various plug ins, so for example, I have Cakewalk SI drums on one track, addictive keys on another, etc. If I stop the song and want to maybe play a little piano to check something before recording, it plays the drums too. Sounds silly. I can mute the drum track and this sorts it, but it is a bit cumbersome to do this each time when you're writing a song. I'm doing something dumb I know, ( wont be the first or last time) any advice from people who know what they're doing?

I see your point John. From my point of view, I write songs to share with others, ( NB I am a complete nobody in song writing terms) and this is what I enjoy. To get to a higher standard of mixes and masters would be great but it simply would take too long to catch up and to learn new things to the level of yourself and others on the forum; if I ever got someone who said " nice song, here's a cheque" ha ha then I don't think it would be because I'd done a great job of mixing it producing it etc. it would be because it was a good song, despite an amateur mix. So I try to improve my understanding of the process but I also must be careful not to devote all my time to this as I simply dont enjoy that side of things. But I do try my best to take advice, even when its a bit over my head!

Thanks for this. I am missing something here; I tried this and yes it deleted the vocal track which shouldnt be on there, but as per my screenshot it hasnt taken away the blank timeline before the song starts, so there will obviously be silence until the music starts. This blank space is what I want rid of

Hi I have tried to understand how to do this by using the help and the forums but am struggling.(again) I have a song to upload but it has a narrative voiceover at the start I need to get rid of for copyright reasons. The help section tells me to highlight all tracks and press delete or delete special. All this does is delete any data on the tracks. I want the song to start from a new point at zero when the narrative is taken out, obviously I don't want 10 bars of silence! Annoyingly I asked this last year and got (as usual) helpful replies. But I've lost the post and forgotten what I did! I think it was a dialog box asking how many measures to get rid of. Any clues welcome!

I agree 100%. I did read that Lennon often got a bit bored and left it to McCartney but maybe that's a myth. Their songs were so good if they'd given them to me to engineer, they STILL would sound good!?

Thanks all, I will try to digest the advice as best I can. As I said to John, I am always in too much of a a hurry, and its a false economy. But to be fair I really only want to play or record, I am not technical at all; and each time I try and sort something it seems to take an hour or more from my day only for another issue to arrive later! but that's the way it is I reckon, as I do everything myself from writing, singing, playing and recording. On a more upbeat note, looking back to when I started with CW I have made huge progress ( with help from the forum) but there's a long way to go before I get to grips with stuff. A VERY long way!

After a few hours I have a work around, just delete the melodyne part where the track looks empty. it must sort of "point" to the original track as a whole. I am doing it wrong so back to the help section for me!
-
Hi I am trying to learn how to use melodyne, a wise move if you have voice as poor as mine, and no one to do vocals for you! Basically what I did was to sing a vocal line, then duplicate the track, introduce melodyne, do a transfer of the vocal line, and raise all the notes by say a third to create a harmony track. sounds okay if somewhat "computerised" With my poor range this makes sense though. But... see screenshot, the odd track is track 7. Elsewhere in the song the main vocal track jumps up in volume, and I looked at this, it seems to be because the vocal is "doubled up" on the melodyne duplicate track. But I had deleted this bit and just kept the harmony bit from earlier in the song. Looking at the track there is nothing there at all, no waveform, but the vocals can still be heard when I solo it. I am stuck once again. Perhaps I am using melodyne wrongly? Should I simply open a new track, insert melodyne as a plugin and go from there with a copy and paste of the original vocal line, then dragging this up by a third, harmony instead of using a duplicate track? I wish I was Robert Plant, for more reasons than one!

Suddenly cakewalk wont record anything.
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
John you are absolutely right, mea culpa. In my defence I find the terminology very daunting. you wrote this first; Only thing that I can think of if the track has been automated. Either mute or volume . I thogut, " no it hasnt" and didnt read on properly, in too much of a hurry, as usual, but of course more haste less speed. So my apologies, its must be annoying to spend time helping people and they don't read the post thoroughly, I am on the naughty step, rightly so! -
Suddenly cakewalk wont record anything.
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hang on! I think its sorted. I should confess that yes it was something simple. I had autopunch enabled later on in the song and hadnt cancelled it. Hadnt realised it effected this track too. Doh! -
Hi all, I have an ongoing problem here. As a novice I'm struggling. I've recorded a song, lots of tracks, some keys some guitar (THU plugin) vocals ( some adjusted with Melodyne). All of a sudden I cant record. The new track looks normal, same output / input just like the others ( see screen grab its the vocal track with record armed. ) and I get a good signal on the meter. but I click record, and it wont record anything at all. Off it goes as normal, but nothing is recorded. I'm now stuck and pulling my hair out, I know its probably a simple thing behind the scenes, but I'm such a novice, to me its a big problem. One or two helpful posts so far, but problem isn't solved and I'm stuck Any help gratefully received.

First part of track wont record
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hmm, still puzzling over this, the problem seems to be similar but a little varied to last time. Basically I record a few vocal harmony tracks, and I use melodyne. The, when I add another audio track for some more vocals( no plug in yet) I see a signal on the console view, as per normal, but the track wont record.(see screenshot) Any clues? I think somewhere along the line I've messed up a setting. I cant progress until I sort this! Its the blank purple track! Any help as usual very grateful for. -
First part of track wont record
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
No, I was just tapping the mike gently to test things rather than singing each time. A workaround is to do a new track elsewhere and sort of start again, but its not ideal so I am still investigating. Its very odd, after the track starts recording, there is a few seconds gap until it can be played back in the headphones, but the waveform is there from the start, very odd. I'll repost if I suss it. -
First part of track wont record

I just cut this section of waveform but no playback and pasted into a new track, and all works fine. I suspect melodyne has something to do with it. -
First part of track wont record
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I dont think so, I did automate one track with clip volume adjustments but not the main vocal track which I duplicated to provide harmony after adjusting the notes up by a third in Melodyne. . I attach a screenshot, its track three giving the problem. (The weird waveform is me tapping the mike to test when the sound comes in, ) -
Hi I am trying to learn to use melodyne, but not sure if that's relevant. Basically I have recorded three harmony tracks, used melodyne to tune them, each was a duplicate of the original vocal track, then altered to make three part harmonies. ( I cant sing!) In the next few bars I wish to do the same things, but an odd thing has stopped me. I click "record" and sing as I always would do; I can see the waveform fine so something is there and has been recorded. But on playback, it is silent until a few bars in, and then the recording of my voice can be suddenly heard. I am stuck as to what I've messed up; tried everything before asking people who know what they're doing. Any ideas?

extending clips in addictive drums2
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Aha! OK wil do this -
I'm sure I ve asked this before but how do you extend a clip in AD2? I have so far managed by using the edit function, and copy/paste the clip a few times to extend the pay period in my track. Buts its labour intensive. Dragging the end of the clip with the smart tool doesnt work, it just extends a blank section, no drums. Or is using copy/paste the actual right way to do it?
