1. Leclerc pole. Home turf. Should be good!
2. https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/bullet-train-to-monaco-2024 oh yea! the 2024 Formula One Monaco Grand Prix is this weekend!! this is my tribute to the event, and kind of a 'imaginary' trip to go see it. brand new updated mix and master. better than the 1st version. I imagine myself in Paris, and decide to go see the big Monaco Grand Prix. i get a ticket for boarding the 'bullet train' in paris, to cruise all the way to Nice Ville, grabbing a quick bus to Monaco. the music represents the ride on the train...The ride on the bullet train was intense, speeding along, going thru tunnels, making stops, starting back up, all the while i'm getting antsy and jacked up thinking about the race. finally, the train gets to the final station, and i'm stepping off the train as the song ends. oh yea if you are at all interested in the actual Grand Prix, here's a good link: https://www.formula1.com/
3. hey freddy! thanks man, i was groovin' on that sustain tone, and it just made sense to let those notes 'hang out' there...
4. yea, i've read the scheps interview somewhere, and yes, if you look at every PRO release in the last year, the numbers are typically half the dynamic range of -14!! LOL i'm typically getting about -10lufs max, with my limited skills, that's as far as i can take it without the compression and limiting messing with the balances. i listen to pro mixes at 6 and 7 DR, and it hurts my ears after one song. WTF
5. hi steve! thanks for the listen... i try to make the mix as clear as possible. and when mastering, there is a point, where i'm pushing the compression, saturation, and limiting where it sounds 'dense' but not flattened and too thick, and that's the sound i'm going for. but mastering as hot as i am now, i still push well past the best 'dynamics' levels, which i find to be about -14lufs, and i'm pushing to about -10 lufs. so, maybe i could get it even cleaner, but it is a compromise between modern levels and pure aesthetics.
6. i wasn't being mean. i was being helpful. there are only a few obvious answers here, and i offered a very realistic, and probably correct answer/opinion.
7. for you, the best thing to do is to hire a proper pro studio, and do all your work there. otherwise, you have to invest time in learning a digital audio workstation. it's that simple.
8. last bump on this one, then i've got some more new stuff!
9. NICE COVER! keeps the original vibe/intensity the guitars blend nicely like the original mix... i don't care much for covers, as a general rule, but generally, i like all your covers!! LOL
10. hi pascal! thanks for listening yea, i like joe quite a bit, but would never claim him as an influence, i was already playing quite a long time before he even hit the scene. i like his self entitled album 'joe satriani' probably the best of his whole catalog, with 'crystal planet' being my 2nd favorite. i cannot hear any yes in any of this composition, but it's cool that it has that effect on you, pulling something out of the grey membranes that hits that memory just so. and to be clear, i wrote this song about 6-7 years before Holdsworth died, so it was never intended to be a tribute in the 'classic' sense, it was really just about admiring his staying power against the onslaught of mediocrity that threatened his very artistry. he stuck to his guns. he had resolve.
11. hi andy! thanks so much for the comments yes, heavy sustain. the mesa boogie mark IIb head, pushed with a Barber Direct Drive Super Sport was the chain for the solo tones. steve hackett is a great player, i've always loved his early stuff, and used to have his Voyage of the Acolyte on vinyl. interested player for sure!
12. just posted an updated mix.

"High Time"

I HAVE UPDATED this mix, brought up the percussion, and bass line. interested to see how it comes across now.
14. hey thanks jack! appreciate it. the tones on this one, were all mesa boogie captures thru a Palmer PDI-09 direct. long before i got the strymon iridium.
15. https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/allans-resolve *Allan’s Resolve - this song winds up the album, and is all instrumental. It is dedicated to allan holdsworth. live drum tracks from Brent Dacus.(D/FW area)

"High Time"

thanks steve! this one was mostly recorded in one day, the main rhythm guitar i just free played, then went back and started layering more tracks, did the percussion track, THEN did the bass track. wrote some lyrics in about 15 minutes, and spent an hour doing vocal tracking. one of my quickest recordings, for sure.
17. thanks so much tom, i appreciate the support!
18. HI RIK! thanks for listening! yea, lots of twists, for sure.. funny, flexable, i bought that way back when, before passion and warfare, and i thought 'yep, you can hear the zappa influence right away!' but really, it was similar, but parallel to zappa, IMHO. the strymon, is just dead easy to use. i spend ZERO time setting up tones, and end up digging all of them. since then, i've gotten a bit more dialed in with the choice of IR's i use, makes the biggest difference. most of the solo tones, are miced up mesa boogie with a Barber Direct Drive pushing it.

"High Time"

thanks so much cakeboy yea, melody is the thing on this one. the riffs are melodies, the fills are melodies, the whole thing just drives that idea home, simple, but tricky with arrangement. sometimes, these things just happen, this is one of em.

"High Time"

it's funny, that Seagull Artist Mosaic, i used for some of the tracks on this one, smelled so bad of cigarettes when i first bought it (pawn shop, $125 with a semi-soft case) that it has taken about 5 years for the smell to go away. LOL i bought it as a 'banger' guitar, to take to the desert... but hell, the cedar top sounds so smooth against the bright spruce top, it's a great sound blender. 21. wow, nice, was hoping this would be exactly the way it is. thanks steve! rip DB

"High Time"

https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/high-time *High Time - one of my favorites on the album, the lyric for this one poured out in about a half hour. boom, done. it's meant to be fun and uplifting. reminds me of a roadtrip i once took, i imagine a lot of folk can relate to this one. Taylor 414 and Seagull Mosaic on this one, miced by ADK Hamburg and Shure KSM44.
23. one of my very best arrangements, lots of ear candy, wanna bump this, one last time
