The structure of the song is great, the vocals and guitar and all the parts actually are very well done. The mix sounds right on over here, so nothing at all I could say to improve anything ! great job. And Better Weather started playing and that one is great too ! This is an older song of mine that I wanted to work on again. It has sounds from DPro, my Yamaha sy55, surge, and the guitar is from New Nation one called Blaque that I got in a bundle of theirs recently. I tried several other guitar vsts and they just would not fit right. It’s a bit on the dark side of ambient I think, never sure what to call stuff. Comments and feedback welcome ! Thanks

Yeah really, agree with the sentiment ! Good idea to cover this. I dont remember the original too well really but like what you did, especially enjoy your guitar playing. The art is good too. When I was listening, my attention was called to the percussion. I dont know if this is how percussion is handled, but I wonder if the percussion could be more tuned to match with the song? For me there was a little not matching at times, and I thought it might gel better if the percussion matched, but Im not too experienced with percussion. Enjoyed it and a few others on you soundcloud. Peace !

Great arrangement, playing and recording, sounds very "professional" , love the horns. Head bobbing along for sure. Steely Dan in there somewhere for me.

Lovely and very relaxing journey. I felt a few times that the strums or the plucked notes had timing just a hair off. I tend to fix those in my songs with melodyne, and maybe spend too much time doing that ha. Anyways, I didnt hear the original version but this one is nice.

I will get back to it when I feel its the right time to revisit it, meanwhile I am going to work on an instrumental because I struggle to hit any notes these days ha, and do try to enhance my singing with layers of backup vocals and sometimes music notes. I hope to make a better mix soon !

Hi Steve, thanks for this and other listens ! Yes it needs more love and time and I will get back to it with fresh ears. I am curious to see how adding bass will be because its not something I had done, but will try it now based on the much needed feedback. I will also beef up the drums, probably change the kick. As for my vocals, as I have said before I am really struggling to sing since gaining pollen allergies, and with the juniper out and rising in amounts, I probably wont get a better take. I had to do this vocal attempt like 9am (and I am not a morning person at all !) before I went outside or opened doors. Honestly I don't even recall how many times I sang it at night (my usual music time) and tried to make it ok each time with tools but couldn't. Part of why I was working on this an extra long time and lost my objectivity about the mix. Anyways, I will get back to it sometime soon, thanks !

Hi Mark, thanks for listening and your feedback. I will revisit the mix when I have fresh ears for it. I have 2 vocal tracks, one with nectar and a low amount of reverb in there, and on the 2nd vocal track low in the mix with some reverb too. I will play around with the volume vs amount of reverb issue you mention. I've had feedback before that my vocals are dry and not reverby so I am learning my way. The thought of a bass guitar didn't occur to me, but with 2 mentions of no bass in my feedback I will see how adding bass in the remix goes. With the bouncy stuff I think it would have to be sustaining vs another melody kinda bass like you say. Thanks again

Hi Tim, thanks for listening and your comments, glad you enjoyed it ! When mixing I was using Izotope tonal balance control and it showed a lot of energy in the mids so you are probably right about that. I agree making music is a wonderful and fun thing to do !

Hi KurtS, thanks for listening and your comment. I usually don't plan a song, I just play around, and for some reason I did not think of including a bass, so sort of on purpose ? I suppose I was satisfied with the massive x kinda bouncy sound having lows, and the dpro strings have some lows, so guess bass hadn't come to mind. But I will think about that when I revisit this song since you and another commented on bass.

I have been feeling more and more that so many things are out of my hands, so that is the feeling behind this song which ironically came out of my hands. Melodyne

Not sure about your exact issue but what i would do is keep recording longer than you want then put a volume envelope on the extra length you recorded and fade it down where i want it to end.

I may be wrong but if this screenshot is supposed to be melodyne 5, I don’t think it has a transfer button. I think older versions had to be transferred (played into melodyne). Not at my computer now. i agree about using it as a region fx and rendering when done editing.

Thanks PhonoBrainer, glad you had a fun listen! Early 80s, I went to a concert in Philadelphia to see The Specials, and this other group was playing too...Oingo Boingo. I enjoyed their set so much ! Great performance ! A eclectic mix of crazy fun and a horn section in full business suits. Since then I have also enjoyed the film scores Danny Elfman has done very much, so I am definitely a fan. I'm flattered by your comment !
