  1. Yes the Solo is great if that’s all the connections you need. But best to think of the future and make a list of what you might need. myself I need 4 inputs and 4 outputs and midi. out of the lower price interface market Focusrite Scarlett series are probably most popular and solid performance Not to mention they give you a lot of extra goodies with a collection of free high quality VST’s These are worth more than the interface itself
  2. @InstrEd now you’re scaring me. A $600 keyboard ? I have used a Roland 49 key controller since 1985. First one died a few years ago so replaced with the latest model A 49. $130. Nice and compact. Runs on buss power or a standard 9 volt adapter. Has both Din midi and usb and I love how it plays something that people don’t think about if they are not keyboard players. best of all it comes with a good midi driver. I find this is important. I never have issues with the Roland. I can turn it on with a project open and Cake asks if I want to use it. I also have an Akai key station 25 it uses generic drivers and is always disconnecting and requires rebooting Cakewalk to connect. I believe in only buying gear that comes with real drivers be it midi or ASIO.
  3. I was told the USB 2 is more than capable and that there was no advantage to “ faster” ports. That was a few years ago so might have changed. But the reason to use the PCI card is power not speed. Bus power sucks just try and run 2 phantom powered mikes with that. im going to order a USB card myself after reading that document and see if that gets rid of my glitching at 256 buffers. It makes sense that my Scarlett doesn’t glitch it uses a power supply the Motu is glitchy due to crummy bus power
  4. To explain what happened is a full length novel. Basically Gibson went bankrupt and just pulled the plug. We all made plans and actually x3 was a part of that because it was the last version you could activate without a server. lots of long time users jumped ship to other DAWs and the forum was flooded with talk about which one to switch to and out of left field Bandlab buys it and said it’s now free. They kept staff and set them to focusing on bugs and stability. So what we still have is our favourite DAW , it’s free and it’s hugely improved. Welcome back.
  5. yes and look like you haven’t used it yet as nothing is really set up. Watch the video to learn. @msmcleod The mix control is from gen 1&2 gen 3 uses a new software called just Control. The 4i4 is first in the line that uses it. Units below 4i4 don’t use it I was and still may purchase an 8i6 so I watched the video and read the manual. Good way to really see what your getting. To bad I didn’t do that with the Motu. basically they removed a few buttons from the front panel and put them in the software. I’d rather have real buttons but I guess it keeps the cost down. There are idiot lights on the front to show what has been toggled at least @Dean you really should read all documents that come with any hardware you purchase it’s complicated stuff but is usually clearly explained in the manual
  6. I wasn't talking down, why do people say that when people try to help.. Must be tone of my voice I guess Nobody had answered you so I was only stating what I would do. Anyhow I don't know the answer but that thread told me everything I needed to know about that reverb. And personally there are a LOT of reverbs out there and I don't waist time with anything that causes me grief for 1 second. Just not worth it. Your call. I tested it here by the way and it seems to work fine. It's very metallic sounding to my ears I guess that's why I don't use it. I still like the Lexicon that we got back some time ago with Sonar, but just recently I've started using the Acon Digital Verbate Basic. I got it from the free section of PLug in Boutique. https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/17-Reverb/5968-Verberate-Basic-2 It's silky smooth.
  7. Troubleshooting USB Audio Problems on Windows.pdf I got this from Motu yesterday covers most things worth doing.
  8. Did you set the midi tracks input to the A-500? In my signature is a link to all my tutorials on midi.
  9. Looks like your going to need a Audio interface with a midi port, No point wasting money on a midi only interface. It's pretty important to use a Audio interface anyway. The Focusrite 4i4 might be perfect. It has the extra inputs for keyboards and the MIDI jacks. Uh, Oh Oh, I just looked at the picture.. I don't see a midi port! That must be a Home type keyboard which most didn't have midi. Looks like you can add a keyboard controller to that shopping list. Cakewalk is free but to make things work properly you sort of have to spend some cash on some hardware that makes it work. Audio interface- Most important part of a DAW system. Mike- unless your singing real sucks. Keyboard controller- So you can enter midi data, even with terrible playing skills because you can edit midi till the cows come home. Studio monitors - so you can hear your wonderful creations in all their glory. Good headphones- So you can hear all those mistakes you didn't hear in the monitors. The price range is huge and you can outfit a studio for as low as under $500 or just keep adding zeros.
  10. What is the model number? The USB port might just be for firmware updates which was common back then. Go to the Yamaha site and search for your model and see what is available under downloads.
  11. I found this was hit or miss. It depended on the track I chose to drag to the time line. Example, drag a guitar, Bass or Kick it's a no go. But for me a snare seems to work best. So one solution is if there is no audio snare then create one with midi and a VST, bounce it to clip or freeze the VST and now drag that to the time line. It's not that hard to play a snare without a metronome to most music.
  12. Are you using the Control software ? This might be the heart of the matter. There are all the settings you need including the PAD. The PAD is a toggle to change input sensitivity so if your mike is too hot you engage a PAD to lower the signal. All mixing board have them. She this is it. People who have never used standard audio equipment will easily be lost in the terminology we use.
  13. The send is were most add the amount. The buss is at unity. Then if there is overall too much reverb in the mix you turn down the effect buss.
  14. Don't obsess over meters and stuff. They are there to make sure you don't go over and are one of the tools you can use for balancing a mix. With digital being lower is OK as there is no noise floor anymore. I use the Youlean meter on my master bus only. I would never be overly concerned with tracks or other busses. I can see and HEAR them just fine. For sure you do not want to see any red lights on any track or bus. By the way- those guitar track reverb send are way up there? If I did that it would sound horrible. https://producelikeapro.com/blog/signal-flow/
  15. Sometimes you get an answer quicker if you google your question.
  16. Glad you figured it out. But it's a question of how in the heck did a 48hz audio file get into a 44.1hz project? As I said Cakewalk converts all audio to the chosen settings like 44.1/24 And if you recorded it directly into Cakewalk it would follow the settings as well. You can easily re record it again, Just send the midi back to the Roland and record the audio in stereo.
  17. From the web site- The OMEC Teleport interface is a universal connection device (IOS, Android, Mac, PC) without any specific drivers or software requirements That's exactly what you don't want. Low Round trip latency is what you need for Sims and that will come with up to date ASIO drivers that come with the major brands of interfaces. The Focusrite solo is pretty small.
  18. We’ve all had projects that get corrupted for whatever reason. steps you can take remove all iffy plug ins.Bypassing might work too. Open in safe mode. next is rebuilding a new project because you use midi and the Tts1, this is easier that normal. just save as midi file and OPEN it. most of you project should be ok. now save this as a CWP and make sure to rename now back in the dead project save track template for each audio track in the new project insert these this should preserve all effects and routing now using the browser find the audio folder for the dead project and carefully one by one drag the audio to the respective tracks. Test playback as you go cakewalk converts the audio to the project settings so this will rule out sample miss match just an extra step would be to save your tts1 settings as a preset I always do this with all my vst’s
  19. @njm255 That's defiantly the best VST piano I've listened to. I want it! All of their stuff seems pretty high quality. To bad I blew all my studio money on that dang Motu.
  20. So your using ASIO mode. when you look at windows sounds it shows your audio interface as the default device In cakewalks preferences the audio interface is checked for all settings under the audio tab there’s no other audio devices you don’t have asio4all or magix drivers hanging out That other song note is not normally seen but did you shut down and re boot?
  21. That’s funny because I normally troubleshoot by swapping out components. But out 400 cables I have, that USB C is one I don’t have. At least yours has a power supply. I think my issues boil down to buss power and that cheap cable. Like I say, compared to Focusrite these guys are cheaping out on extras. Not impressed. I did all the stupid tweaks on the list and it made no difference to the crackles. I think I will order a pci USB card and find a better cable if that’s even possible. USB C is cell phone consumer junk. This is what really bugs me I thought I was buying a better interface than my Scarlett I'm giving it one more chance. long and mcquade can’t get back to me because they are having web site issues
  22. The key might be the sample rate. Did you also check you audio interface control panel. You can also look in windows sound settings but it’s odd because usually the song still plays but out of pitch and in your case slow
  23. I got a nice reply from Motu and a link to this pretty good document regarding windows tweaks. https://cdn-data.motu.com/django_prod/techlink-attachments/159747/Troubleshooting USB Audio Problems on Windows.pdf There were a few things in there I had not done and I unpacked the M4, re installed the drivers. Things went a little weird as I got that Windows doesn't like this app warning which didn't happen before. Anyhow drivers installed. Even though I've never heard this was an issue I went into reg edit and deleted all other ASIO drivers. So we'll see tonight if I still have the issues. I would prefer to keep it.
  24. As you say subjective- you do what you think sound right to you. Generally distorted guitars are in your face with not much if any reverb. Delay is more popular, Country guitar uses reverb and clean effects like chorus. I don't even use reverb on vocals of hard rock. Just a little delay.
  25. The Air mini grand I actually have deleted from my system as it was causing problems. I don't remember exactly what they were but it was something like the volume would go full blast .. Anyhow It might have seen an update but it was not that great anyhow. OK if you have AD then it only takes a minute to download the demo of AD keys. Just run the XLN installer.
